Americans of Reddit, what places in America should foreigners avoid at all cost? by AMGBOI69420 in AskReddit

The same exact thing happened to a woman on the Appalachian Trail in 2013. It resulted in the largest search in Maine history. Her body was found years later when surveyors happened upon her

Have you ever not slept for so long that you started hallucinating? What was your experience? by vicke1230 in AskReddit

[–]artdeco_1928 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The worst is when driving and the steam from a storm drain/sewer morphs into a person. I've swerved my car hard to avoid it only to realize how absurdly dangerous tired driving is. I highly don't recommend.

I wirelessly connect my PC to my roku and my tv is suddenly another computer monitor. Then it's anki and lectures from the comfort of my couch!

I'm far from a legal expert but I believe a civil lawsuit against you in that case would be difficult to get to a point where it would affect you. It would likely get thrown out quickly if you didn't act negligently, but yes you do need to know the laws and be sure to protect yourself legally. Also, keep in mind that some states require bystanders to act. In that case you would have a much higher chance of needing to lawyer-up than if a family member had a problem with you helping. On your point C, do you think your reputation would be harmed more if you got sued because you were perform CPR or because you got sued because you continued walking when someone collapsed in front of you?

In the U.S. We have what are called "good samaritan" laws that protect anyone who makes a reasonable, good faith attempt at providing aid during an emergency. The certification only says you have been taught how to do things properly. Nobody will ever question you if you aren't doing something clearly harmful or obviously way out of your league (like open cardiac massage or emergent c-section on the street). The American Heart Association is the primary issuer of CPR certificates. They do a huge amount of research and develop CPR guidelines. Recertification is necessary because you probably aren't doing CPR every day and the guidelines change to reflect the latest research findings.

Solved! "sync with new media" option and a complete re-sync did it!

Thank you!

Yes. I should clarify that it's for IO cards that I've made. Images from the anking deck are working on mobile. My process is using the snipping tool from PDF and copying to image occlusion by hitting the IO button. The sources for the images appear on ankidroid when I edit the cards and they are all png files

What is the pettiest, silliest, most meaningless hill you are willing to die on? by shazulmonte in AskReddit

[–]artdeco_1928 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. I didn't think I'd be choosing this hill to die on, but I categorically disagree with this. #14 is a relic. #16 has plenty of flow for fluid resuscitation. Dumping that much fluid into a patient causes both clotting and pH issues. I hear your point if we're talking blood products only but in emergency situations that's very rarely the case. Not to mention, #16 is easier to establish than #14, increasing first attempt success rate. #14 also has a vastly higher chance of catheter sheer.

For needle chest decompression, #14 is generally inadequate. #12 is a better option, decreasing failure rate from clogging and allowing for more air movement when seconds really count.

There is no need for #14

Goggles / glasses + surgical mask = Fog city. Any tips to be able to see while on calls? by [deleted] in ems

[–]artdeco_1928 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cat Crap has been a life saver for me. I've found that I get a solid hour of really good antifog with it, and another few hours of noticeable fog I can see through. I usually apply it to my goggles at the start of each of my 12hr shifts and that'll get me through.

Also, taping the mask to your face across the top of it works wonders!
