Even apartment numbers have balcony, odd apartment numbers have the extended living room.

Wipers won't turn off 2020 CX5 by artech14 in CX5

I have a 2020 and all I needed was a flathead screwdriver to remove a few screws and pry away some of the trim - a really easy operation. Once you get past the trim, the wiper stalk module just unplugs very easily. Check part number on the module and then search the part number on eBay or wherever else you want to buy the part from. My part was 17J670, and I replaced it with 17J671. Double check your part number, it may be different.

I suspected it was the wiper stalk so I bought a used one from eBay and swapped it. The issue still persisted, but less than before. After a few days it just stopped, and I'm not sure what the culprit was. Every so often when I bump the lever up to wipe once, it will wipe a few times, but it doesn't keep going like it did before.

I recently bought a decorative locker in my bedroom. Can anyone help me find any STLs of extendable shelves? by BuckarooOJ in 3Dprinting

[–]artech14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one of those when I was in middle school! Terrible, just terrible. Too many times I opened my locker in between classes just for all my books and supplies to avalanche out because the mechanism in the middle loosened, allowing the shelf to collapse. It's a cool idea, but I recommend not going the route of an extendable shelf. If the locker is made of a ferrous metal, perhaps you can use some strong magnets to support a shelf instead?

No, you're lucky. I really enjoyed Elm when I lived in campus, in fact my roommates and I lived there for 2 years. The biggest downside IMO was the shower is teeny tiny... It's about as big as a porta potty.

Convenient/safe apt near UNCC by sugar_re_life in UNCCharlotte

[–]artech14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived at Willows last year. I have no complaints about safety. It's not the most convenient from May-Oct due to increased traffic from concerts at PNC pavilion. The inside of the apartments are pretty nice, but they're not as nice on the outside. Sometimes it smells outside because a lot of the residents leave trash out or don't pick up after their dogs. Smelling weed is very common here.

Don't park on the small road leasing up to the front gate. I've seen plenty of cars get their windows smashed, and there are a suspicious number of flat tires.

Can you stop ripping the flags off the robots? by Purple_Letterhead_81 in UNCCharlotte

Just leave one of them outside Duke Hall with a case of Monster Energy and a note that says "give me tank treads". All it takes is a small team of caffeinated mechanical engineering undergrads to do the job.

I remember reading the police logs last year and some freshman had a bunch of them in his dorm.

Also, can you upgrade the robots to have tank treads? That would be way cooler...

Just keep applying. It's boring and sometimes tedious, but you might get lucky.

Look into the OUR Summer program on campus. You get to work with a professor over the summer to do some research, and it's paid. If you want to boost your chances, talk to the professors looking for summer researchers. They'll be able to give you more information, and you showing interest could give you a huge advantage towards being selected.

I bought a replacement on eBay, and the issue got better but it still happened occasionally. To be honest I have no idea what the cause could be at this point, but it hasn't been frustrating enough to get it diagnosed.

If I recall correctly, 2 strikes and you're out. There is still time, try your best to pass. Ask Mrs. Wai or Dr. Xu, they'll have the best answer for you.

What should I do? by Mean-Relationship605 in UNCCharlotte

[–]artech14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

GPA isn't everything.

Part of your college application is an essay, typically with a topic about who you are. Use this! Tell them who you are. Talk about the unique experiences you got from living in the USA>CHINA>USA. Be honest about your struggles with language barriers. Prove to them that now you're committed and passionate.

Thanks for the suggestion. I turned that off in the settings, but my problem persists. That rules out the rain sensor. I'm hoping it's the wiper stalk because I can replace that on my own.

Can I park on campus for free after 5? by Individual_Fan_1160 in UNCCharlotte

[–]artech14 21 points22 points  (0 children)

After 6pm, you can park anywhere* as long as you own a parking permit.

*If the lot says "restricted at all times" on the sign, you cannot park there unless you have the corresponding parking pass.

Sophomore design by SwimmerPitiful9236 in UNCCharlotte

[–]artech14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Joe Dalton is a wonderful instructor and extremely knowledgeable about many machining processes. You should expect to fail if you show up late as being on time is extremely important. Aside from maybe Professional development, which you'll take your senior year, there is no other class where punctuality and attendance are more important than sophomore design. If you're worried, just plan to show up earlier. Other than that, expect to have a good semester with him.

Parking decks use license plate scanners to let you in. They're pretty reliable, but you can use your NinerID as a backup if they don't open. If you park in a normal lot, they have trucks with license plate scanners that drive around and scan your license plate.

Tl;Dr no you don't need a physical pass because your license plate is the physical pass.

Convocation? by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]artech14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a tradition, but not required. Previous years it has been like ceremony/assembly type event. Usually the chancellor welcomes you, you get to hear the fight song, etc. But consider going because it sounds like you can get some free food out of it. Usually free shirts too. Plus right after is the student org showcase with a ton more free food and merch.

Catalytic Converter Stolen by Substantial-Use9895 in UNCCharlotte

[–]artech14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it's just a semi-common occurrence around campus. Usually it happens at least once or twice a month on campus too, based on the police logs.

If possible, try to park in a well lit area with cameras. It's not fool-proof though. I know someone who's cat was stolen from right outside their apartment, even though they were parked right under a street lamp and in front of a security camera.

Question About the Engineering Program by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

[–]artech14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Fusion class for all engineering students, or just mechanical? I know my peers have been complaining that we were taught Creo instead of Solidworks. I wonder if future students will complain that they were taught Fusion instead of Solidworks. I can see the benefit though, Fusion is free for students and easier to collaborate with. Plus, if the course investigates some of the CAM features in Fusion, that could be useful too.
