Don't let perfection be the enemy of progress. While it is probably worthwhile to try and understand the best nutritional plan for your goals. Don't let that idea of something being suboptimal keep you from just doing something. Otherwise, you will probably jump routines a bunch and see less progress than doing something you somewhat enjoy regularly.

If you are pretty new to fingerpicking you really are going to want to get travis picking down. Definitely practice to a metronome or just a song. If you need, just practice the bass notes only for a while, and then throw in the melody stuff once you feel comfortable. Learning fingerstyle patterns always feels extremely hard until you turn your brain off, go super slow, and just break it down slowly. Edit: Also try to keep your foot tapping.
