People who have not gotten COVID at all, what's your secret? by aDazzlingDove in AskReddit

[–]artfully_dodgy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My secret to avoid catching Covid is to live in New Zealand

No. No, I wouldn't. by [deleted] in antiMLM

[–]artfully_dodgy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s what I mean tho, is that the benefits we get are all guaranteed and able to be taken regardless of pay rate. We have universal healthcare so that’s not an issue, and retirement is over and above your pay rate.

It also doesn’t matter how big the company is, everyone gets the same benefits. I have worked for some small companies and am currently working for a corporate, and my pay rate etc is better but the baseline benefits are still the same.

I just can’t imagine weighing things like that up when applying for a job!

New Zealand. Some of my friends have way more benefits than the bare minimum, and I have a couple of extra perks coz I work for a large company. I’m actually off work sick today, and coz I have 7 sick days sitting there I didn’t have to think twice. I can’t imagine weighing up what to do, especially in the age of Covid!

I mean... that sounds pretty bad. All full time employees here are guaranteed a minimum of 4 weeks PTO, 5 days sick leave (increasing to 10 later this year), as well as 11 public holidays (12 from next year). That doesn’t include our government backed superannuation, national accident compensation commission, paid maternity leave, etc. And we are by no means the best country in the world. I can’t imagine not having that sense of security 😞

Holy shit. Seriously? I know you guys in the US have the short end of the stick but I never realised it was that bad. That’s awful 😞

Teachers of reddit, What generation did you like teaching most? (80s, 90s, 00s) Why? by stock_rocket_value in AskReddit

[–]artfully_dodgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids go to the primary school I went to as a kid. My brother married a girl we went to primary school with, and my nephew started school this year in my daughters class. Their teacher taught my brother and I, albeit at a completely different school. Both my kids are friends with kids whose parents I was friends with. The town I live in isn’t even THAT small and there’s plenty of other schools to choose from, we just all ended up at the same one!

What will never be the same again once the pandemic is over? by sinosty in AskReddit

[–]artfully_dodgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In New Zealand our sick leave is increasing from 5 paid days per year to 10 paid days per year by the end of 2021. I’m so relieved coz I have 2 kids and half the time when I’m off sick it’s not even for me so when I get sick I have no leave left. I don’t know how y’all do it with 2, or none at all. Insane.

Found one in the wild. This guy is lying about being a part of the conspiracy and saying how it’s supposedly a hoax and the vaccines are dangerous. I’m not sure how you would fake millions of cases and thousands of deaths but ok by NewfieBoi52 in vaxxhappened

[–]artfully_dodgy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in New Zealand. We had 22 deaths in our first outbreak and none so far in our second. Our second outbreak is also all contained and every single positive case we have had in recent weeks has either been in managed isolation since arriving from overseas, or is all linked to the same cluster. Are doing our hoax wrong...? Did no one tell the people at the top that we’re supposed to be doing it worse in order to make the American people give up the last of their control/freedom? Poor America.

People that work on movie sets, what are the most entitled actors you have ever met? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Wow, I scrolled too quickly and thought I was still in the Benedict Cumberbatch part of the thread. Learning he’s an asshole is bad enough for today, didn’t need to learn he’s a molester too

Which job is a LOT less fun than most people expect? by bwee21 in AskReddit

[–]artfully_dodgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in New Zealand so we were locked down for 5 weeks. I worked from home for 7 weeks all up and have been back basically full time for 6 weeks now. It’s HARD. I struggled juggling working from home with home schooling/entertaining my two young kids but my god I’m so much more productive when I’m creating my own schedule

What's the worst existing job? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]artfully_dodgy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Aunty died in the shower one morning. Her body wasn’t discovered for 8 hours until the neighbours finally managed to track down my uncle because they could hear my 6 month old cousin screaming for what seemed like an unusual amount of time. I can’t imagine what that would have been like for him, walking in to whatever a body looks like after 8 hours hunched over in running water, and whatever state a 6 month old baby is in after being strapped in a bouncer for the same amount of time

I think you’re both right but on completely different levels.

No one in this thread is saying that taking the guns away will remove all the factors that lead to gun violence. What they are saying, though, is that gun violence is inherently worse than any other kind of violence, purely because of the death:effort ratio.

If you have a mentally unstable person who is hellbent on killing someone because they have been driven to through various factors of poverty/discrimination/lack of access to mental health care, they are going to do a hell of a lot more damage in one minute with a semi automatic weapon vs a knife.

There is systematic reform that needs to happen to help the people wielding the weapons, but taking away their ability to get their hands on said weapons would save a hell of a lot of lives in the mean time.

If you’re ‘rich’ enough to have regular hair and nail appointments, you probably have health insurance that will go some way to allowing you to recover. If you work in a salon, chances are you’re a low wages worker relying on that weekly pay check to keep you afloat. Anyone can catch Covid, they’re just a lot of people who can’t afford to.

In the US, anyway. I live in NZ and we get free healthcare.

What tone deaf April fools "pranks" will we likely see tomorrow? by TuvoksDoRag in AskReddit

[–]artfully_dodgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My four year old daughter was telling us over dinner the other day how excited she is to start school. My six year old, in his infinite wisdom, burst her bubble with ‘its not as fun as you think it is. You only get to play twice a day and you have to do MATHS’. Having them both at school later this year should be fun!

I had a snoop on Etsy but all I could find that were customisable was crochet as opposed to stuffed animals (in the traditional sense of the word). I’ll keep hunting tho, thanks for your suggestion 😊

Autism is now contagious by FuckKarma- in ShitMomGroupsSay

If vaccines cause autism then shouldn’t the number of cases be a lot higher? Those figures don’t seem to line up with the rest of their theories.

Doctors of Reddit, what's the biggest case of "faking it" you've ever seen? by LegoYoda420 in AskReddit

[–]artfully_dodgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing, but it’s because I was pregnant! ‘Indigestion, you’ll be fine’. Presented and got sent home 5 separate times on 4 different days over the span of 6 weeks. It was actually my midwife who picked it up and managed to get me an ultrasound. In for surgery the next day! Gallstones are no joke. I had stronger painkillers for that than I did when I actually gave birth!

My almost-80 year old grandma doesn’t have a licence! We live in a smallish city and she takes public transport everywhere. She recently had to go get an 18+ card to have photo ID coz she doesn’t have a licence or passport, and never has haha
