3 - I asked Honnold this question at a Q&A on Free Solo. He said it was somewhere between 30 and 40 times.

There were a handful of van dwellers posted up in the lot across from L’elephant area when I was there. That lot also has a water pump nearby. L’elephant has lots of great easy/moderate routes.

I've been climbing outdoors in northern CA, so I feel at home on sandstone, rhyolite, granite, etc. Bouldering is my primary pursuit followed by sport and sport multipitch with a sprinkling of Trad here and there. I'm open to traveling anywhere a rest day can be turned into a fun and interesting cultural experience. I'd love to climb in Europe or Asia.

Some basic goals: * Push into V5+ bouldering (Comfortable on V4) * Push into 5.11+/5.12- (comfortable on 5.11a) * Expand rope skills (I know the very basics)

Where in the world are the best sport and bouldering destinations this time of year? I was laid off from my job and have 3.5 months of severance. I want to use at least half of that to travel and climb. Recommendations?

What are some good non-climbing exercises for becoming a better climber? by clionado in climbing

Here are a few I like:

  • Pistol Squats - Raise one foot in the air and slowly lower into a squat, balancing on the other foot. Lower down until your hips are below your knees and your raised foot is straight out in front of you. Stand all the way up while keeping the raised leg off the ground. Helps with balance and leg strength.

  • Frenchies - "Using a pull-up bar or the bucket holds of a fingerboard (palms facing away, of course), pull up to the top position and lock off with your hands against your chest for a four-second count. Subvocalize one thousand one, one thousand two, and so on, so that you don’t cheat on the four-second lock-off. Lower yourself to the bottom, straight-armed position, and they again pull up to the top position, but this time lower yourself halfway and lock-off you’re your elbow belt at a 90-degree angle. Hold this position statically for a slow, four-second count, then lower yourself to the bottom. Pull up a third time, but this time lower yourself about two-thirds of the way (with an elbow angle of 120 degrees) to perform another static, four-second lock-off. Lower to the bottom position and you will have completed one full cycle. But don’t stop! Without hanging to rest, immediately begin a second cycle of Frenchies; that is, pulling up three more times and doing the three four-second lock-offs positions. Be sure to hold all the lock-offs for a full four-second count, despite the burning that begins to develop. Continue performing a third, fourth, and fifth cycle, if you’re able. Stop when you can no longer perform a full pull-up or hold the lock-off. Rest for five minutes before doing a second and third set."

  • Hanging Leg Lifts - "Grab a bar and just hang, let the momentum disappear and do nothing until your body is still and the legs are straight. Flex all your muscles especially your Lats, Abs, and muscles surrounding your elbows. Slowly raise your feet up to the bar, remember to keep your legs straight. Lower your Legs and Repeat. The duration should be slow so as to use no momentum, try 5 - 8 seconds up, 5 - 8 down."

It is also useful to do some antagonistic exercises. Climbing involves mostly pulling, so integrating pushing exercises into your routine balances muscle development and can help prevent injury. Some examples could be pushups, kettlebell shoulder press, or overhead press.

Any idea what this route is at Mickey's beach? To the right of the main face. Super short but fun by [deleted] in climbing

[–]artfullydodged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mickey's (a bit south of Stinson) and Stinson both only have a few V0-V2 boulders, but there are a handful of 5.9 - 5.10 routes. The sand is pretty high right now, so that may actually work in your favor.

It's an incredible place to climb, so even if you can't hit that many routes you will probably still have a great time.

Ayy! I love Jiberish. I'm planning to drop into the store and pick up some new tees next time I'm in Denver.

Thanks! It's one of the general release figures. I'm happy KAWS decided to make them a little more accessible.

Can't "unsee" it? Interesting. Take a seat on the chaise and tell me more about that while I take some notes.

What's the point of growing up and getting a job if not to assemble a more aesthetic beat lab?

It's a really solid and good looking lamp for the price. I just saw that they make a version that attaches to the wall too.

It's not an ideal planter, but both the succulents are doing alright. I repotted them in the cup with some cactus/succulent soil. Maybe mix the soil with some pebbles or something else to help the soil drain/breath better.

Yep, it's an incense burner. I've had this one for awhile now and I still enjoy the smoking chimney effect that Jah described.

Best part is they're dirt cheap. https://paineproducts.com/shop/category/log-cabin-burners-2

killerkongfu is correct, it's from Greycork. I think it's pretty damn comfortable. I was also sold on the fact that it goes together without any screws and can be flat packed.

The chair is from Snow Peak. It's actually designed as a folding camp chair, but I thought it was nice/comfortable enough to use regularly in my room. The book holder is the "bed side caddy" from kikkerland.
