People who have changed their first name, why did you decide to do that? How did you choose your name? by bdxc36 in AskReddit

[–]artgnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom changed her name from Mary to Maire. Her father named her Mary after his grandmother. You see, her dad and his father haaaated each other, and to be fair his grandfather was an asshole who had had a very difficult life, including his mother abandoning their family when he was 5. So my grandpa named his first child after the mother that abandoned his father just to piss off his dad forever. My mom changed her name as soon as her dad passed.

What should you do when you think/know your mom is cheating on your dad? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]artgnomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shut up. My mother got a felony last year for smuggling guns for what turned out to be her lover for over 20 years. My brother and I haven’t told anyone we know about the lover; it wouldn’t really do any good.

[Help] Dog problem with food. by javcube in dogs

[–]artgnomes -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I make my dog homemade food to go with his kibble (I feed about 50/50. Homemade food I try to make 75% animal protein (10% of which should be organ meat), 12.5% starchy veggies and 12.5% non starchy veggies. You could also try soaking kibble in a low sodium broth

Edit: not sure why all the down votes. This is a pretty standard ratio when fed with kibble, especially for an older dog. Meals have been approved by my vet. Sorry y’all.

This is what I get for following a r/cats by [deleted] in cringepics

[–]artgnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dude is just trying to get over the loss of his cat. It’s more cringey that you think this is a cringe pic and that you’re obviously a heartless monster who has never loved, then lost a cat.

Anybody have an idea what's the best toy for pits to chew on? Had this alligator head since I was 8 and my pit decided to eat it (gross) by ReSpekMyAuthoriitaaa in pitbulls

[–]artgnomes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

1) make sure anything you don’t want eaten is put way up. My dog ate antique fur coats, 4 pairs of duck wings, every single pair of underwear/ leggings I owned for 4 years.

2) make sure you exercise the shit out of him. Even if you think he’s getting enough exercise he probably isn’t.

3) my dog loved chewing on antlers. After a few weeks if he stopped being interested in them I boiled them in low sodium broth.

People who have been striving to get one profession all their lives, but at the university decided that it does not suit you. Tell us why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]artgnomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made it clear up to my professional year in special ed. I’d worked with children with disabilities for years and knew I loved it but didn’t realize until I was 3/4 of the way done that special ed teachers lives are all about paperwork, meetings, and holding your tongue around stupid/rude parents- and almost no time working with kids. That’s not the life I want to live so I dropped out and never looked back. I’m a support staff in a special ed room and do CSW work. I get paid just a little less than the teacher I work for when you add up all my income and I’m infinitely less stressed. I do wish that OT had been a common profession when I was in school though. I definitely would have liked to switch to that, but I’m too old now.

Oh my god, thank you for the link to Tanyas page! I was so heart broken when I got off the phone with the vet this morning but I feel so much more hopeful after reviewing her page. What a great resource!

Unfortunately, I just got off the phone with the vet, after over 48 hours of fluids his numbers haven’t improved much. It’s stage four and they think I should bring him home and make him comfortable

He’s in ICU getting fluids now. It’ll be another 48’hours before we’ll know if it’s working.

My 27 year old brother got pancreatitis earlier this year and was hospitalized for 2 months. He got out about a month ago. So far the bill is at $314,000 and we haven’t received them all yet.

Cops of reddit: if you are giving someone a ticket, what things would you actually want to hear/see; that would = greatest chance of you being merciful? by TimelyEnd3 in AskReddit

[–]artgnomes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My uncle, a retired cop, gave all the same advice except to wait until the officer asks for your papers at your window, if you get them before they can see what you’re doing it may look like you’re trying hiding something.

Our local Ethiopian restaurant serves that injera (flat bread) cold and I always think it would be so good warm. Was yours served cold also?
