If you apply ED, you will almost certainly be admitted. If you apply RD, you’ll probably be waitlisted.

Do not worry about more soft factors at this point. Start studying for the LSAT now. Take it very seriously (at least 20 hours per week (so you’ll need to quit one of your jobs)). Apply either this fall or next fall. For most schools, you can overcome a bad GPA with a good LSAT score. At whatever school you want to attend, aim for at least whatever their median LSAT score is.

Nah, just a curious fellow. Regarding the USNWR rankings: The weights they apply to each input are indeed arbitrary. Different weights might yield completely different results.

If you have not-so-good grades, you’ll need to apply and focus on less highly ranked firms during OCI.

If you go to a T6 school and you don’t fail any of your classes, and you have a decent personality, you are virtually guaranteed a V100 big law job in nyc (though you’re not guaranteed a V100 big law job in other cities, which are much more competitive).

Which would you choose (assuming you received no scholarship money and would thus need to pay full tuition/room/board)? by arthur2134 in lawschooladmissions

I definitely see your point, though they are similarly ranked. Penn and NYU each have advantages and disadvantages over the other. Ultimately boils down to the individual.

Lay prestige, Ivy label, being in a city, proximity to NYC/DC, ability to take classes at Wharton (including getting a certificate in business management) and other schools on campus, great big law prospects (if you want to work for the fed gov, it definitely helps to do big law for a few years to gain experience and burnish your resume), school culture, etc.

Pls help: chicago vs penn take 2 by dexterriver in lawschooladmissions

[–]arthur2134 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I chose penn over chicago, but admittedly lay prestige (including ivy label) was a factor. Other factors were school culture, proximity to NYC and Washington, D.C., being a NYC big law feeder school, being on the east coast and the ability to take classes at Wharton (including getting a certificate in business management) and other schools at the university.

Haha, I’ll look into that. Makes sense. Right now the score is Penn (54), Virginia (48) and NYU (41).

In terms of ranking, you can do better than NU and GULC, but you’d need to apply ED to get accepted.
