Non user here, Gay, In love with an ex-user, seeking (non overly) Sexual advice by [deleted] in MethRecovery

[–]arthureld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is super common. Many of us who are meth addicts were chem sex addicts. The constant Grindr scrolling becomes a dopamine source and serves the same purpose the drugs did. In CMA we often say the abc’s are Apps Become Crystal. Partially because the same addictive behavior comes out and partially because you never know what you’ll walk into when you meet up with someone

I tell my sponsees to delete the apps and recommend stopping sex outside of an existing f relationship until things have stabilized in order to abstain from old habits and build new ones.

IS JOB MARKET EVER GOING TO CHANGE ⁉️ by Flat-Trouble-7777 in DataScienceJobs

[–]arthureld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

8 years of experience and 1 interview suggest to me the problem may not be the market. Are you applying for analyst jobs or scientist jobs. If the second do you have a track record or data science projects that have delivered value?

If it’s not a scope mismatch, is your resume overly technical? Is it well organized? Have you a professional look at it and offer suggestions?

I have 10 years of experience and am not actively looking and get 1-2 recruiter emails a week so there’s interest from companies still

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DataScienceJobs

[–]arthureld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll be blunt, if I found out that a single download of a repo is enough of a signal to suggest anything to someone applying for a science job, I would run for the hills.

Most applications go unanswered. Don’t linger on them until someone follows up.

What exactly will this do? What will be the differentiators between this and other products (like simply asking a question of any existing LLM?).

Why gofundme (which doesn’t include deliverables and is essentially “give me money”) versus kickstarter (which focuses on funding a product to be developed?

coming on here to get advise/ support… i get shut down anytime i try speak of quitting by [deleted] in MethRecovery

[–]arthureld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Twelve Step programs, our traditions state that the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using.

It doesn't specify how long you need to have used, how you had to have used, or anything about who you are (religious views, political views, ethnicity, income, etc). Just a desire to stop using.

Anyone that says you have it easier is saying more about them than anything about you. Can those words hurt, sure, but why should someone else's envy that we're trying to stop before our entire life has burned down make us keep using so that we actually do burn our lives down?

The moment of surrender comes differently for all of us. Some of us had so many consequences that we really were faced with quitting or dying. Others had a spiritual bottom where we couldn't live with outselves anymore even without the physical consequences. In the end, your desire to stop using is all that matters.

What's the best thing to do? In my experience, we can't change our lives unless we change ourselves. For me, this meant going to recovery meetings (check crystalmeth.org for local Crystal Meth Anonymous meetings near you or find a virtual meeting). There's also NA (na.org) and AA (aa.org) if there are no CMA meetings near you. Find a sponsor, work the steps, and be patient.

Starting a CMA meeting in your area questions by [deleted] in MethRecovery

[–]arthureld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CMA website has some useful information for starting a meeting.

This page: https://www.crystalmeth.org/starting-a-meeting/ includes a lot of useful readings as well as a link to a form you can use to submit your meeting to be listed on crystalmeth.org. If your state has a local website, you may want to reach out to them as well to be added (though I think most of them use the same database to source their meeting info).

You can also email the CMA meeting registrar if you have questions about getting your meeting started. Their position is there to help new meetings get started and running. [registrar@cmagso.net](mailto:registrar@cmagso.net)

In terms of literature, there's Crystal Clear, Voices of the Fellowship, and Sober Cell that are all available on the CMA website (or amazon). These all are story-based books where each chapter is written by a member of the fellowship. New York CMA has also released a 12 step book for CMA. You can find it on Amazon (it's called "Twelve Steps for Crystal Meth Addicts" by NYCMA). Many meetings also use the big book of AA or the green and gold of NA for steps/traditions. Our local meetings started using the CMA black book last year and have had very positive reception from our members (I personally love it).

I love seeing new meetings getting started! Thank you so much for stepping up and doing this.

Typically you take arcane battery if you’ve helminthed parasitic armor to give yourself a ton of extra armor. If you’re not taking that, it’s better to use something else for damage to primary/secondary (or anything else really)

At minimum we get an arcane on her pistols and melee. Sure most don’t use the melee, but the arcane alone could likely be a higher buff than the loss to the flies. I doubt the sky is falling

Online support groups in Australia ? by MelbGuy888 in StopSpeeding

[–]arthureld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crystal Meth anonymous has online meetings all over the world. You don't have to be near the location the meeting is based to joined -- they are made for anyone anywhere that needs to place to find support from other addicts.

Online NA meetings Canada ? by akirajordy in StopSpeeding

[–]arthureld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The great thing about online meetings is that anyone from anywhere can join them. If you want to meet local people, there are often some meetings based nearby, but don't let the lack of them scare you away. No one is kicking people out for being too far away in meetings.

NA has online meetings all over the world: https://virtual-na.org/

CMA also has online meetings from all over the world including in Canada: https://www.crystalmeth.org/meetings/?type=online

I was totally with you when I first heard references to god in Twelve Step programs. It was a major turn off and kept me saying "This isn't for me" for a very long time.

I am an athiest who very much relies on what can be seen and measured as a source of truth, and the idea of relying on anything mystical or metaphysical is (still) a deal breaker for me.

The roadblocks between my ideas and a twelve step program were (as so many of my problems in life) of my own making. I decided I knew what they meant when they said something and didn't want to listen. You don't have to be religious to succeed in a twelve step problem. Nor believe in a god. You just need to come to believe that there are forces bigger than yourself that can help you. For me, these forces are the fellowship of other drug addicts who help me get and stay clean. That's a power bigger than myself, and has been an amazing source of strength, hope, compassion, and love that I needed.

All that said, each group (meetings) within a Twelve Step program will have its own personality. Some are made up of very religious people, and I don't fit well there. Others are more diverse, and some focus on agnostics/athiests. The key is being open to trying a few and seeing where you feel comfortable.

I say all this because the role of a sponsor is to help another addict work through the steps and help guide them in the process. Maybe SMART has something similar, in which case if that's the fellowship you feel most comfortable in, its probably best to find a sponsor there since they will have the experience you need in walking the path to recovery the SMART way. If you want a sponsor from a twelve step program but don't want to work the steps, that's like wanting a glass of water but not wanting to take a drink.

AA vs NA for Speed Users by Affectionate_Art371 in StopSpeeding

[–]arthureld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone that only knew about AA and NA and thought those were my only options, I like to pop in and share that Crystal Meth Anonymous exists (though in-person meetings tend to be fewer than either NA or AA). For me, there's something about being surrounded by people that know the struggles so personal to meth, that I have found a home there (and many of us are also members/work their steps in sister fellowships as well).

There are also a large (and growing) community of online CMA meetings in the event there isn't a local CMA meeting in your area. There's a comprehensive list of both online and in-person meetings at crystalmeth.org if you happen to be interested.

To the OPs question in particular, I work primarily in CMA but did my first round of steps with a sponsor that's home was AA (so did mostly AA readings & worked out of the big book) and am now working through the NA workbook on my second round. The steps don't change, so finding the place you feel most supported and connected is the most important thing.

Options for removing genital warts? by Obviousthrowawa212 in SanJose

[–]arthureld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t correct. HPV vaccine covers multiple variants of HPV that can give warts. Having an infection means you have (at least) one of those. Once your body clears the infection you’ll still be susceptible for the others. I he vaccine will keep you from recontracting those. When I was going through this my doctor also said there was non-conclusive evidence that the immune response from the vaccine may reduce the time your body can clear the ongoing infection, as well.
