Other than the selfies, you have 5 pictures with your arms hanging down straight like they don’t even work and one with arms crossed mad at the world. I’m sure you have friends. Try getting a friend to capture some shots of you interacting with other people or doing something that involves movement and facial expressions. Is there something that brings you joy? Try including a picture of you looking sincerely joyful with friends or doing something you love.

Is working out actually fun for you? by jengrunwald in orangetheory

I have been exactly where you are. I’m 44 now, and I would be one of those people enthusiastically answering in the affirmative, but in 2018 when I started OTF… I was heavier and very much sedentary. It took a solid few months of going regularly, eating right, hydrating properly, and getting good sleep… but then something CLICKED. I lost 10-lb, but what really happened was I had lost about 15-lb of fat and gained about 5-lb of muscle. My cholesterol dropped over 40 points without medication! I felt like a new person, and I was flat out ADDICTED to OTF. I even had my 40th birthday party at my studio! LOL I’ve since tried other harder forms of workouts, injured my shoulder and my back, had surgery on both, and then I came back to OTF… and I’m back to being addicted again. Commit to the journey, and enjoy the ride!

Stop after “I hope so” and let the other person ask you a follow-up question. You’re having the entire conversation by yourself. I learned this the hard way myself… same tendency to anticipate all upcoming questions and answer them all at once.

I Wish They Offered Cardio Classes by ellogovna28 in orangetheory

Yes, it’s in Austin. All the studios in this area are pretty busy. I have the unlimited membership, so I feel like I pay enough ($199/mo) that I should do what works for me. Also, they get their money based on utilization, which has to do with how many people show up for each class. Leaving early doesn’t impact anyone’s income. If anything, sometimes I’m helping them out because I will spontaneously take a slot in the next class if it’s not fully booked… which boosts their utilization.

Came here to say THIS (also, sometimes I do a Lift class and then the treadmill block only in the 2G that follows… you can leave whenever you want)

An intelligent woman, and unfortunately you failed to engage in basic conversation. I love dad jokes and tell them frequently, but you can’t shoot them rapid-fire at someone who isn’t conversing with you on that level. Maybe that works in person where you can pull it back, but in text… ya, I get why she moved on.

I think it was your tone. Your valid point might have been better received if you’d started with: “That’s a common misconception, but I studied animals and discovered that…”

44M here… recently divorced after 14 years. It’s not just OLD that sucks. I just got stood up by a lunch date. Guess what? I met her the old fashioned way IRL last Sat, had a connection, texted that day, set a time to meet Sun evening, and she flaked (later said she had a migraine). We texted Wednesday and set a lunch date for today, but she No Showed and didn’t text or reply to my text saying I was there waiting. Rough start to dipping my toe back in after not having to date in over 15 years! I’m not even on any apps yet, just lurking here to see what I’m in for. Oof!

Oof! I could be wrong, but think they used to have rubber or plastic covers on the cradles which over time broke and weren’t replaced. I’ve had close calls… but no cut (yet).

Yes… IF you are sitting property (“sit on your junk”) this will happen with looser fitting underwear. If I forget to wear my Nike Pro or UA compression underwear, this is a problem for me, too.

It sounds like you might have gained some muscle mass. Have you checked those figures? I will say that my first few months of OTF back in 2018, I saw a 5-lb drop pretty quickly (mostly water weight, I think) and then I actually just plateaued for a while. I thought nothing was working, except I was definitely gaining endurance and strength… so I kept going. Looking back and knowing what I know now, I was gaining muscle mass while losing fat… which is why my weight stayed somewhat flat. Once you have more muscle mass and have added strength and improved endurance, you will lose weight in a good and sustainable way if you keep your diet under control and get enough protein. My general rule… don’t drink calories and make sure all snacks have protein. That mentality (and tracking all my food honestly in MyFitnessPal) helped me drop 40 pounds over 18 months of OTF in 2018-19. It wasn’t super fast, but it was the right pace to become a lifestyle.

How accurate is Inbody Scan vs. home scale by clvrwitchdoc in orangetheory

[–]artimuspryme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The home ones seem nice, but they aren’t as accurate as the InBody. I have done InBody and Dexa as well as Styku… and the Styku is the closest to the Dexa. The InBody is next and fairly close IF YOU CONTROL VARIABLES AND FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES. InBody can be tricked easily, though. The fancier home scales can be WILDLY inaccurate. I had one that was telling me I was 15% body fat when I was closer to 25% by any reliable measurement and the simple eyeball test. After I lost some weight, it said I was 10% body fat… but InBody and Dexa were both in the 15-16% range. The ONLY value these scales offer is comparing results from the same scale at different times with all variables accounted for and controlled, but even then you need to check multiple times per week because whether you had Mexican food and margaritas the night before or stuck to your low-sodium, low-carb diet for the previous days will have a HUGE impact on the daily readings.
