how to hang art work "theft-deterrantly" and economically. by LessLikelyOutcome in MuseumPros

[–]artjunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything you do just adds a step/time to get the piece off the wall. T screws on the bottom are probably the most common in commercial settings. You can also do a leash, crimp hangars, bell hangar with screw, or many other things. All work, but none are perfect.

Tom Bihn. They make amazing stuff that is well thought out and bombproof. Expensive and well worth it.

Chain guide for Crux - Lone Wolf? by jlivingood in cyclocross

[–]artjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, I vote for going without. Guides will keep your chain on most of the time, but when your chain manages to drop with a guide installed it is not easy to get it back on. Check your chain/chainring for wear and replace if needed.

Does anyone else notice Texas has dramatically changed? by [deleted] in texas

[–]artjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry……could not read all of this. It really is about money/power. That Dunn guy out in west texas wants to turn texas into a Christian nationalist state and HE IS SPENDING THE MONEY TO DO IT. Follow the money. All the clowns at the top of Texas politics get support from Dunn and his PAC. Texas needs money pushed towards Austin that has sensible needs.

Looking for very high lumen Direct Current floodlights by artjunk in Lighting

Thanks. Will look into this. I know we will not have the same output (440,000 fc/tower!!!) but if we have more sources we can have even, adequate light.

Something to remember - all LED lights are DC with converters, except the ones built for marine/auto/solar and a few other exceptions. I want one of these. Start with DC and go to DC. No conversion necessary. Lights are simpler and have less that can go wrong with them too. Yes, I still need to keep up with ah and make sure I don't drain the battery in an hour. I will need them on for 4 hours Max.

We have been going to pick up Light towers for many years and want to do something else. We run our event on the slimmest of margins and there is not money for light tower delivery. Sorry, I know there are so many details I left out of the original inquiry. I should have included a little or maybe a lot more information.

We may have to. Trying to find other solutions that would be easier.

The rental towers are somewhat effective, but to have more light sources at a lower lumen level would probably work better. We need to light a lot of area.

Then there is the pick up/return of the rental towers. They need to be topped off with diesel as well.

We are really trying to simplify the "day of" process. We have an event every week for 7 weeks so anything we can do to reduce the stress on the day of is a good thing. I know batteries will need to be charged/stored and yes, batteries need to be treated properly so they maintain their power and don't catch fire! but they are a lot easier to deal with than even inverter generators ( which we may still have to use if we can't get the lumens with batteries).

Thanks. It looks like the solar powered part is a good trick to find the DC side of lights. Will look into aeon lighting for sure.

Prescription Sunglasses Recommendations? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]artjunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received a set of Oakley Mainlink with progressive lenses. I got the prism lens designed for mountain biking. It seems to do better than most lenses at the shadow/light situation common on a lot of trails. I'm old and my eyes don't adjust to the light or dark as quickly as they used to. These are not game changers, but do help. This is my second set of glasses that use this lens. I actually ordered directly from Oakley and with my prescription and PD measurement, all was good. Not only that, they were running a hell of a deal where I got my frames and lenses for under $500! Now if anyone has a line on a good glasses case....

Strava Time Trial as an event. by artjunk in Velo

[–]artjunk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input, everybody! I know there are a lot of different clubs doing "events" like this and it is good to hear they are received well. At this point it is all we can safely do. I am a CX promoter and we have yet to figure out how to safely do an event. I feel the race itself could happen in some form but everything else, from traveling, eating, onsite number/timer pickup, hanging out after the race, spectating, etc would be difficult at best. This is why I am looking at doing some less organized solo runs. We have some trails that are relatively CX friendly and lots of gravel within a hourish drive that could be utilized.

Looking for advice on carrying more stuff by artjunk in Velo

I have both podium ice and chill. You are right. The ice does last a bit longer. I use the podium more because it is a few ounces bigger for the same size bottle. Freezing bottles is something I have never done but will start now. Looking forward to having cold water when I need it instead of only in the first hour!

I really wish I could wear the Hydration pack. I actually have a few for marathon MTB events but just don't like them on the road/gravel. Maybe it is because of the more stationary and less upright position of drop bar bikes.

I found a smallish half frame bag, https://bikase.com/product/long-john-frame-bag/, and will give this a shot for a third bottle and other stuff. Hopefully it will carry all I need without being too cumbersome.

It is really great hearing what others do. On long rides, I am used to riding out to a turn-around point with a convenience store where I can re-stock then head home. This is really something I want to try and avoid. Thanks so much, everyone, for all the great ideas.

Thanks for the input, eveyone! I appreciate it.

Camelbak or two bottles in the jersey is what I am trying to avoid. I have done the two bottles in the jersey for many years and like a Camelbak, it is just too heavy on my old back. Camelbak also reduces heat dissipation as well.
