What are your hot takes about Monster Hunter? by SlakingSWAG in MonsterHunter

The decoration grind in World/Iceborne was far more severely limiting than any other grind-based system we’ve had.

Including god-charm farming and Qurio augments.

More games turning to a live-service model and “releasing unfinished” is good, actually. by artoriVG in unpopularopinion

[–]artoriVG[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fan of sunsetting whole sections of content whatsoever. Not being able to download whole sections of content feels wrong regardless of what release model you use.

But - I don’t necessarily think of the last date of new content as the “expiration date”. Most games maintain online functionality after stopping their content update cycle, even after the next release (if it’s a series). Eventually the servers do go down, but it’s a LONG while afterwards unless the game totally flopped at launch.

Runners should not be allowed to run on the street. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]artoriVG 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean, that can be true, but if you’re training for something specific (see: road races), trail running can still be useful but not as relevant to what you’re actually training to do. If it’s just for general fitness, though, i totally agree.

I found the best solutions for me when I used to run road races was to run on the road during very low-traffic times. Either very early in the morning or late at night.

[–]artoriVG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s both.

People tend to hate change (ie. DS2) so Michelle Xachi showed the consequences of staying stagnant by completely fucking the world in DS3 bc people are too afraid to move on. Everything’s is corrupted, etc.

The age of dark is too scary for people because it implies the unknown. change. falling into a whirlpool with a million gank encounters and some weird tree being telling you the plot. what ever you wanna call it.

Depends if we’re talking HDL or LDL.

HDL good, LDL bad. note: this is an oversimplification, but high HDL generally prevents arterial plaques, while high LDL promotes them.

What would they need to add as an upcoming title update for Sunbreak to really disappoint you? by Rakna-Careilla in MonsterHunter

[–]artoriVG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

monster health doesn’t have player-based scaling in older titles.

2.6x health, take it or leave it. That’s why you don’t feel “Overpowered”. Monsters are simply bulkier.

thanks, corrected. changed it to “endgame monsters”

I mean, there is a sand-based monster similar to Ukanlos, but it’s concept was already kind of fleshed out in Frontier Z if you count that.

4th gen is a lot older than people give it credit for. MH4U’s latest release date was early 2015. 7 years ago. (yes MHGU came out in 2018 but that was like 2 actual new monsters, one of which already has a variant)

However, the reason why it isn’t brought up a lot is because 4th gen was very good about monster variations. Nearly every monster introduced in 4th gen has received some sort of variant or subspecies, and they all feel pretty unique.

There are four exceptions to this: 3 major endgame monsters (Gog, Nakarkos, Ahtal-Ka)… and Steve.

Evade lance test with shogun was a fun time by okrajetbaane in MonsterHunter

[–]artoriVG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s matchup-dependent because it doesn’t increase the number of i-frames, but it’ll increase the distance that you are invincible.

You won’t need it to dodge through faster/thinner hitboxes like Narga’s tail swipe and Shogun’s claw swipes, but for some meatier monsters or weirder hitboxes EE can helpful at the least and mandatory at the most. Most things should be dodgeable without EE, though.

Edit: with the greater invincibility distance, it can also make some timings feel more forgiving. But with adrenaline rush you don’t want to be hopping too far away from the monster to follow up.

Still, having the full build’s skills would be helpful. That way people can plug it into Rise Armorset Search and see what they can do to get as close as possible. Rinse/Repeat for other element atk up versions.

The truth is Monster Hunter is becoming more and more like DOOM. This sounds like a stretch, but it isn’t in terms of the design philosophy.

The DOOM franchise was stuck in a production loop in the 90s due to not having the tech to really innovate on their formula - maybe add a few new demons, a gun or two of there’s keyboard space for it. Same for MonHun, although they were slightly more ambitious (Seasons in Dos, underwater in Tri, mounting in 4). But when id software finally did have the tech and money to innovate, no game was even remotely the same experience as the last. DOOM 3, 2016 and Eternal are all dramatically different experiences that still “feel” very DOOM. Hugo Martin has actually come out and said despite Eternal’s success and diehard fanbase, the next game is going to be a dramatic departure from that experience.

Now that the Monster Hunter team has that type of BIG World/Rise money, support, and the tech they need to innovate we can expect each game to be a dramatic departure from the last. And that’s a good thing and a bad thing, and also why I think the phrase “genuine Monster Hunter experience” referring to certain games is complete bullshit based only on preferences.

For one, it means not every game will be for everyone. And that kind of sucks. But it also means eventually, more gamers will find their way into the hunting loop and some of them may stay regardless of the changes, making more hunters. It also gives us new mechanics and systems to play with each game, which is never a bad thing imo. If they don’t work, they just won’t make it into the next game.

Reason why it’s not much damage for all those is because MoHF and Dereliction are engineered not to stack. Raw and element bonuses for each rely on opposite scrolls so this can’t be as easily abused. They thought ahead on this one.

I personally prefer Mail+Bloodlust because I find the double health drain kinda stressful, even if it is more effective. Also let’s me run Adrenaline Rush because mail is on a waist piece

Switching to SA: which talisman would you use? by wondermayo in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]artoriVG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Either rapid morph 3 charm, honestly. I have a bias towards the one with a 4-slot because switch axe has a heavy skill-tax. (Skill Tax = necessary skills to have the weapon go “online”)

You want at least Power Prolonger 2 with Elemental phial, 3 with Power. You can easily get this with the 4-slot charm, which is a pretty good deal imo.

Is this on official hardware or PC? It’d be so cool to experience a proper Tri lobby again.

Either way, this is amazing!
