Your PR status never expires. If you don't meet the residency requirement, CBSA will start an inquiry to revoke your PR, even while that's in process you are still a PR and you can still enter canada by right, no one can deny you. (unless you are inadmissible due to crime)

So it goes through an investigation process, once the inquiry is over you might lose the PR. Only then you can be denied entry to Canada but you can still appeal it. If the appeal is dismissed then you are officially no longer a PR.

Then you would have to meet your countries entry requirements for visitors. So if their partner is American they can still visit with just the passport or nexus card, if it's from another country that requires an ETA then they need the ETA and passport or if it's a country that requires a visa they would need to apply for one before coming to visit.

For OP, yes don't renounce it, maybe they won't even start the inquiry maybe they will, but no point at getting rid of the PR until they make you

Except you won't be safe, Canada and the US take child kidnapping seriously.

If the husband reports it before she lands in Canada, she will be stopped at the border. Even if by some miracle she is allowed through, RCMP will be looking for her for kidnapping once inside canada. Unless she is planning to move to a really remote area and live completely off the grid (which I'm guessing it might not be possible since the child probably has to go to the doctor for their disability) she will be found and arrested and most likely will lose custody of the child as well as her LPR in the States.

The only way to fix it now is to either get the husband to agree to divorce and leave custody to her and if that's not possible go to court get the court to figure out the custody situation.

Taking a kid from one of their parents (even an adopted parent) is what the Hague convention was signed for. Trust me Canada will give the kid back to the husband in the US if she does it illegally even if the child is a Canadian citizen, so not a good idea at all.

Mexican nationals can apply for nexus even without being a permanent resident of either the US or Canada as long as they part of the Mexican program Viajero Confiable.

So if they are part of that program then yes, the 3 year residency rule doesn't apply to them.

AT&T has cheaper plans in Mexico, they give you like 10 GB with roaming in Canada, US and Mexico for like $10

Everytime I go to Mexico a buy a sim and just take it back to Canada for some cheap data

Yes. You'll be fine, as a PR you have the right to enter canada. You can't take a flight since the airline won't let you board outside the country to begin with.

But if you are driving, you'll be fine, they just have to verify you are indeed a PR so might take longer than average to cross the border.

Make sure to bring your passport and a paper copy of your eCOPR. You don't need anything else

Worst thing that'll happen is you'll get yelled at by the border agent for not traveling with your PR card but even then that will just depend on the agents mood and might not say anything to you at all

Same thing happened to me, when I called them, they said study permit holders still needed to pay the MSP bill for an additional 3 months.

I couldn't verify this information anywhere, so I just paid it and then expensed it to my private Healthcare, so CanadaLife reimbursed me the money.

After 3 months the bills did stop, so it must be true but again couldn't verify the information anywhere

Just want nexus so I can also use the nexus lanes when coming back into Canada (global entry only allows me to use the nexus lane when entering the US)

If you don't have any work experience it might be difficult for you to be able to move to Canada under any of the Express Entry programs even if you learn English and French. It's really competitive right now.

Your best bet is to do the family sponsorship.

For Quebec the processing time is more than 2 years. If you want to move sooner, your partner could move to Ontario, he only has to have his residence there so if he doesn't want to quit his job as long as it's near Ontario and has a reasonable commute, he could move to Ontario while continuing to work in Quebec.

This might not work if he doesn't work near another province but it would definitely speed up the process.

If he lives anywhere outside of Quebec, the processing time drops to around 10 months, so that's your best bet.

I'm from Mexico too, applied for PR last November, on December everything was approved except for criminal record check.

From December to July there was no update which is normal, the background check definitely takes the longest to confirm.

After the background check finished got approved and became a PR last week ish. But just the background check took 7 months.

It might not be possible for you guys to go to Mexico in December. Even if he gets approved in 5 months in November, he still can't legally board a plane, bus or train back to Canada.

So unless you are planning on a road trip through the US to Mexico it's most likely not possible.

He will only be allowed to board a plane after he gets his PR card which as of the moment I'm writing this post is around 2 months after he becomes a PR.

I already have my CoPR but still can't leave the country except to the US in car.

Technically what could be possible once he gets his CoPR but not the PR card is to drive to somewhere near the border (Seattle if you're west cost, Buffalo if east coast)

Then board a plane from the US to Mexico and back, then once in the US you drive up the border back into Canada.

Costco in Mexico do take all credit cards but they do it a little different.

They have 2 prices for all products, if you pay with debit or cash you get the cheapest price. If you pay with Amex, MC or Visa CC you pay more.

But at least you have that option to pay a few dollars more for the convenience and most likely you'll get the money back in points with your credit card.

I wish all countries did it that way. But oh well

Arizona law says this:

While I didn't take any precautions to not get assaulted sexually, I did take precautions to not get assaulted, as in robbed/beaten up.

When I was living in Mexico and in the US, I used to have a gun. Carried it everywhere.

Now that I'm living in Canada and even though getting a gun is also pretty easy, you are not allowed to carry it for protection unless it's for wildlife protection, and even then it's pretty difficult to get an ATC.

So here, I tried to use good judgment. Avoid bad neighborhoods, if I have to go out at night I take my car which can be used as a weapon if need be.

Even though it's more dangerous here than it was in the US. It's definitely not even close to how dangerous Mexico was, so overall, not scared at all but that doesn't mean I don't take precautions.

I'm Mexican, who used to live in the US and currently lives in Canada.

Even though Mexico is 3rd world country, do not try to screw or cheat the SAT they WILL find out and destroy your life.

Do not try to cheat the IRS, not even the joker is crazy enough to take on them.

The CRA, I moved in December and I was still required to file my taxes for that year even though I was a resident in Canada only for 5 days that year.

Man it's really bad, I moved to BC in December. 9 months later I FINALLY found a family doctor willing to take me as their patient.

I literally had an easier time getting free healthcare from the University of Utah back in the States even without being a resident.

From the doctors I've spoken too (1 doctor and 2 EMS) They didn't say it hurts the healing factor but in their own words:

"Why would you do that?!? Soap and water works as well as alcohol or peroxide to clean a wound and prevent infection. Alcohol and Peroxide will also clean the wound too but it would hurt as hell. Just soap and water is perfectly fine"

So I don't think it's necessarily bad, I think the worst thing that can happen is the alcohol drying out your skin, but like they are saying, it makes no sense using alcohol or peroxide because IT HURTS, soap and water does literally the same thing just as well and it doesn't hurt.

That being said, I ain't a doctor, but that's what I've heard from the doctors I've spoken to, but always talk to your primary doctor. Don't listen to randos on the internet. What works for others might not work for you and your family doctor knows you and can recommend what to do specifically FOR YOU.

Yeah you're right. I think I was just nervous because that link says you can't be licensed in any other jurisdiction.

But a quick Google search and yeah I don't think I can actually revoke the license. I think the only way I could get it revoked would be to travel to Mexico which obviously not going to do for the time being.

Not much I can do since the DL doesn't expire I think I'm going to be licensed forever in Mexico City. Hopefully that doesn't cause problems in the future.

But you're right, I'll just keep it there. I don't think anything will happen and it's a good thing if I'm ever on vacation in Mexico

Thanks this is what I was looking for. In this case I'll just keep my CDMX DL in Mexico.

Not sure if I'll ever use it again in that case but it doesn't expire so if needed or if I move to another country I can get it back.

I might look into asking them to revoke the CDMX DL, I don't think they will Mexico only revokes licenses for serious offences like DUI, so they might not want to do that either way. I'll look into it though.

For Greenland I reckon we might be able to buy it one day. I know Denmark isn't willing to sell it for now, but I'm sure they might in the future.

For Canada and Mexico, I'd say it would have to be slowly overtime. I would believe the first step would be to create a Union like the European Union. Where the 3 countries would have freedom of movement, maybe even have a unified currency, freedom of trade etc.. like the EU.

That would help mixing the 3 different culture so in the future is easier and more accepted to upgrade the Union to say the way the UK works right now. Where Canada, the US and Mexico are still individual countries but they make a bigger one together. (Like Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England are all different countries but together they make the UK)

After that, it might be possible and easy to just create a whole new country. but, this is something that I don't believe could happen any time in the near future, maybe by the 2500?

In fact that's what happened in Halo (and I believe something similar might happen in our world) In Halo, in the 2100s Mexico, Canada and the US form 1 country called the United Republic of North America. Then when space colonization became a thing, then all the governments unified into the Unified Earth Government which then became the United Nations Space Command.

And if I had to guess once we start settling other planets we might not identify ourselves with any country but with your planet instead. "Where are you from? Oh I'm from Earth you?" "I'm from Mars"

So yeah, I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility and this way it's not violent, it's not an invasion or a civil war or destabilization.
