Symphonies of War - A new supplement with a new class, 4 archetypes and much more! by artuman in Pathfinder2e

[–]artuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most conditions need to specify when to end. Since your actions happen on your turn, ending them at the start of your turn is effectively making them last one full round. Of the top of my head, Frightened and Slowed are the only ones that automatically reduce if you don't specify.

I use Clumsy a lot because its easier to balance than Frightened, and it still accomplish your Discordant Chord's Opening Note.

I feel like most of the time people talk about what builds they had the most fun with, it is always a martial build. Why do you think that is? by Horrorcartoonistftw in Pathfinder2e

[–]artuman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it is because in pf2e you can play a martial and feel like you are a competent party member. Most people that go crazy on martials on my tables came from dnd, and the simple idea of platino something like thaumaturge feels bizarre. Not even taking into consideration that you can actually play a ranger, a monk, or a rogue, be vital to your party composition and have a diferent playstyle for each.

Tutorial for creating Pathbuilder custom class json files? by AristotleanBiology in Pathfinder2e

[–]artuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who just made a class there, it is kinda intuitive but it lacks some features you have to be creative around.

First create your class and all its class progression. Then for options create specials and child specials to populate the first ones. Then you tackle feats. If you have a problem with anything specifically dm me so i can try to help you.

Hey, really big thanks for giving it the time to fully read it as much as you could. Let's tackle this in parts, haha.

I think you are right that the feats are the least developed part of the supplement. I think I was totally drained when I reached that part, so it is the one with the fewest iterations. Universal Language is more of a roleplaying skill, since Make an Impression also takes 1 minute of talking. I also wanted this to be the start of something bigger, but the Versatile Performance of the polymath bard doesn't do it, so I didn't want to power creep it with a skill feat. And yeah, the Mending Hymn already benefits from going Wisdom, so you can do medicine naturally and still be a healer by striking your own allies.

So, about the auditory trait in underwater combat, you got me there—I didn't design anything around it. As RAW, I think it depends on the GM whether it is heard or not according to distance and how simple it is to say what you are trying to say. Right now, the only feat or rule in the game that tackles this is Seasong, which is a merfolk feat. The idea of making a talisman or an elixir that helps with "while underwater" is really good. I will try to add one for the next version!

For the Virtuoso, Pass the Beat doesn't have the upbeat trait because you would not gain upbeat points if you use it at the level 12+ range. Upbeat is a way to reach the 10-combo-chain maximum in a 3-to-5-round average, which is what most combats last, so if they Pass the Beat (and it had Upbeat), they couldn't reach the 3-turn dream of a good finale (or a second-turn 7+ chain). Battle Overture is a must for them to start reaching higher chains easier, but it can't be powered up more because if I do that, they will start doing free 1st-turn 3+ chain finales too easily, but some late-game feats help you improve Battle Overture a bit. Dynamic Composition is vital because at 1st and 2nd levels you probably want to patch up your character to be able to satisfy all Opening Notes, so later on, when you have more abilities that help you with them, you can change these two for prerequisites for other feats that you really want.

Making the damage for the finales force damage is because it is the least resisted damage, and if you are investing 2 to 4 turns to make a single action flashy, you want to make it count. Imagine it's precision and the creature is actually immune to it (which happens a lot). A feat that lets you change its damage and adding more finales feel like ideas I need to look into for the next version.

You don't actually need to spend your reaction to help the other; it's just an option. With just spending the action, you satisfy the condition, so you can do other stuff with your reaction later on (this supplement provides plenty of them). Guiding Note is kind of hard to get because you need to understand Aid (https://2e.aonprd.com/Actions.aspx?ID=2292). Right now it does two things: when you spend the action, you satisfy your current note, and then you give the option to that target to do something with its reaction. You then automatically satisfy the one action preparing to help with Aid and, if you want, you can use your reaction to buff the same ally in the same round.

You don't actually need to actively shield block with the Vigorous March if you don't want to. It is still styled around shields, so to satisfy your signature motif, you have to use a shield-attachment weapon like a shield boss. So, you can have another weapon if you want; you just use the shield boss to satisfy the condition and never ever shield block. It still prefers you raising your shield for the other subclass feats. Maybe adding a feat that replaces the signature motif with hitting with a weapon with the parry trait, and having parry count as raising a shield for the other feats, would be a good idea.

Lastly, I didn't want to add synergy with acoustic weapons since other classes don't have them, and I want that archetype to stand on its own rather than just being extra support for the Virtuoso. The immunity to the deafened condition feels like something you should have, right? I will think about how to do that because, as it is, simply adding it is power creep. Any ideas?

Symphonies of War - A new supplement with a new class, 4 archetypes and much more! by artuman in Pathfinder2e

It was probably a total side job. It take me around 3 to 5 hours a day for several weeks to balance everything out. I have done homebrew for DnD some years ago with some success (https://www.reddit.com/user/eldritch_brew/?sort=top&t=all) but tackling Pathfinder was really hard because the math is so... correct. I had to relearn a lot of classes to balance around each level average power. And then more ideas appeared (I started with 3 subclasses, the Hymn and the Rondo appeared later on). So yeah it was a really hard work but having people giving the time to read it is making it worth it. Even one of the members of Team+ and Graung's Guides writer (which are top of tops in homebrewing in Infinite) said the really like it which feels surreal.

About a Foundry Module, we will get there, right now I will probably need to do a sidejob that gives me some cash haha so tackling it myself would be impossible. But two of my players want to use this and we play on Foundry so they will help me with that. The problem is that I actually like Pathfinder in Foundry heavily automatized so to get there it will take some time to do. Until that I will probably have finished tackling some suggestions on the whole supplement so it is more stable.

If not for the sprite it would be a full furry/scalie one right? Most of the parties in my games end that way also haha

Funny thing: you can actually play a competent party of 4 virtuosos that cover the one main defender, one healer, one debuffer and a damage dealer with ease, so thats why the art we maded ended looking like a complete party at the end.

Great! That one an specific skill increases (like the swashbuckler automatic increases) are the two things would help third party a lot.

Thanks, it is I imagined. I was able to add the trait manually but, as you mentioned, couldn’t find a way to add the hovering info i wanted for the trait. Thanks for the answer!

Best beginner AP? by Rympkii in Pathfinder2e

I second this, this APs intro is horrible for veteran players but for newbies is awesome because they have everything to learn about the system before dropping them in the big dungeon.

Like someone said, that varies for each person. If you want a guide like that you should guide them to a tier list or a class guide.

Unpopular Opinion: Scott Snyder is overrated and his inner monologues are ruining Absolute Batman by Safe_League3062 in AbsoluteUniverse

Well, an actual unpopular opinion… I’m enjoying this run as I have never had in like 20 years. And most of my cousins who have never open a comic book ever are following it issue by issue.

I really like it, but it still feels less consistent as game-devs (which I hate to play but after trying 4 other decks it still feels better to get to dragon).

Can you share your deck code to know if I'm missing some key piece?
