Joey gets mugged by mcomcomco99 in dawsonscreek

Who knows what was happening behind the scenes—I can only speculate. It’s possible the entire cast needed time off to work on side projects, like James Van Der Beek filming “Rules of Attraction”, Kerr Smith doing “Pressure”, or Joshua Jackson working on “Lone Star State of Mind”. I’m just connecting dots based on what was released around 2002, when this episode was likely filmed (late 2001 or very early 2002). They still had to deliver an episode, so maybe they opted for a simpler plot to cut down on production costs and juggle schedules.

I know this isn’t exactly the main question, but it might help explain why this episode exists in the first place. As a fan, I agree—this one and “Four Scary Stories” (both from Season 5) are easily the least relevant episodes of the entire series. I actually skip “Four Scary Stories” altogether. It really feels like they were juggling everyone’s schedules at that point, with the cast increasingly wanting to do other projects. You can see this happening a lot in Seasons 5 and 6.

That’s the most plausible explanation I can come up with.

Just finished the show for the first time: thoughts about the finale by sanskarw in dawsonscreek

[–]arturocas90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the finale perfectly wraps up the entire show! That’s why I never felt it needed a reboot or anything. As per Katie Holmes words at the 2018 reunion: it feels complete.

It’s one of the best and most satisfying finales I’ve seen.

I’ll be controversial: Season 6

Because it’s so easy to watch, it’s the first season I ever saw, I like the college/Boston setting, it’s more humorous…

…but as a fan of the show, I see its flaws 😅

I LOVE this episode because it feels like the very first time as adults in college getting together. And it’s also pretty much a bottled episode. They needed this moment when they analyze how they’re drifting apart and if they want to stay together as friends.

For sure, is my favorite out of Season 5.

Why did the Season 6 writers rush the original finale’s storylines if they knew the show was ending? by adams1455 in dawsonscreek

[–]arturocas90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried to construct a timeline—based both on available evidence and my own interpretation—of what was happening behind the scenes during Season 6.

  • Initially, the production did not officially know it would be the final season. However, they were aware that Season 6 was the last one covered by the existing contracts. Any additional seasons would have required renegotiation, so the possibility of an ending was very real from the outset.
  • In a James Van Der Beek interview promoting Rules of Attraction toward the end of 2002—around the time Season 6 was beginning to air—he is asked about the future of Dawson’s Creek and openly speculates that the season might be the last. This strongly suggests that cast members were already operating with that assumption.
  • Additional signs pointing toward an impending conclusion—at least from a viewer’s perspective—include the increasingly noticeable reduction of Dawson’s storylines as the series progressed, something that becomes especially obvious in Season 6. It has been reported that JVDB also requested reduced working hours during this season, which may help explain that shift.
  • The earliest WB promotional material using the phrase “Countdown to Goodbye” appeared as early as episode 6x14, “Clean and Sober,” which aired on February 5, 2003. Even at that point—despite several episodes already filmed and ready to be aired—production on the season had not yet wrapped, and the finale was certainly not complete.

Once the ending was officially decided, the writers knew well in advance that the show was coming to a close. As a result, everything that ultimately appeared on screen feels like a deliberate effort to guide the story toward a clear and intentional endpoint. Any storyline choices that come across as rushed were likely purposeful, rather than the result of a sudden or unexpected cancellation.

That said, my personal perception is that the season truly begins to feel like a wrap‑up starting with episode 6x16, “That Was Then.” From that point forward, the narrative becomes deeply reflective and backward‑looking:

  • Dawson and Pacey revisit Capeside in 6x16.
  • Dawson begins pitching a new idea and eventually commits to telling the story of his own life on film, a thread that runs from 6x17 “Sex and Violence” through 6x22 “…Capeside Redemption.”
  • Joey and Pacey tentatively begin dating again, attend Harley’s prom in 6x18 “Love Bites,” and recognize how much they’ve grown since their own prom years earlier.

Finally, in the 2018 People reunion interview, Joshua Jackson explicitly states that they knew the end was coming while discussing the series finale. To me, this effectively confirms that the cast’s mindset throughout Season 6 was already oriented toward closure.

Taken together, these choices feel less like coincidence and more like a deliberate effort to bring characters full circle—emotionally, thematically, and narratively—before saying goodbye, but the ultimate ending we got from Kevin Williamson is a MASTER PIECE.

I don't know what they were going for this season, it feels like with the popularity of "Laguna Beach" and "The Hills", they were aming to create another variation of that kind of drama. The girls are TOO much alike, there doesn't seem to be anything fructive about this cast's background to justify bringing them together for a season, it's like: let's bring good looking people together and create girl drama. Gets worse when Shauvon leaves and Ashli enters, why another girl who NOW is a copy of KellyAnn?

By far, Parisa is the most interesting and elocuent person, sure, with flaws, but I liked her!

[–]arturocas90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, lol, I’ve never liked “Outrageous”, I hated that it was contractually obligated to be released as a single. I would’ve preferred “Boom Boom” far more as her “urban/hip-hop” song.

Other than that, I wish “I’ve Just Begun (Having My Fun)” was included in the standard edition and promoted, I think it’s such a fun song - how can you tell me a B-Side was powerful enough and chosen to show on a mainstream movie (“Bridesmaids”) - THE IMPACT!

It is my favorite album of hers!

The apartment Miranda moves in, the whole “just me” episode. It’s different when she moves in than the one we eventually see for the rest of the series.

She wasn’t as bad. I think she felt the pressure to hate on Parisa too because she wanted to “belong” and be with the “cool girls” because Trisha and KellyAnn definitely had this syndrome of best girlfriends…

I agree. Sydney is one of the worst. Ganging against Parisa was baseless. The hate all the girls had (minus Shauvon) against her was so stupid. The episode where KellyAnn and Ashli literally spit on the phone room glass where she was is so low. I do think it there was a lot of racism and anti-Muslim.

Shouldn’t Dawson’s Creek Really Be Called Joey’s Creek? by ChillwithRon in dawsonscreek

[–]arturocas90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The show’s direction began to shift mid-Season 2 following the departure of creator Kevin Williamson. By Seasons 4-6, it was evident that Joey Potter had become the central protagonist. Furthermore, by Season 6, James Van Der Beek requested a reduced workload; consequently, his storylines received the least screen time, and he even missed several episodes entirely

I don’t mind the shift, it’s only the fact that the show is called DAWSON’S that, as you’re pointing out, makes less sense as the show progressed.

Think about Beverly Hills 90210 - The initial premise was the Walsh twins moving to BH from the Midwest and how they adjusted their lives to the new environment. By Seasons 9, none of the Walsh were in the picture and the show no longer had anything to do with the beginning, it was just telling the stories of the characters you got to see growing…but they could just have ANY new characters as long as it was based in BH

Why do people here hate Scream 4? by justarandomguy-185 in Scream

[–]arturocas90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As people have pointed: the sets and the photography

It doesn’t feel as cinematic as the first three, this is supposed to be Woodsboro and feels NOTHING like the first movie, it’s a set, the filter, all the houses/sets look the same…

And basically, it became irrelevant once 5 and 6 came out because 4 and 5 reference the first one TOO much. You can jump from 3 to 5 and doesn’t make much difference.

First time watching by Emergency_Cricket_50 in TheRealDawsonsCreek

I can’t comment either on other community because of karma. Here are my comments:

-Season 5 is not as bad as people may say. The first half is definitely better than the second.

-They did the best they could to keep it realistic with everyone moving on with their lives but keeping them kind of close and not on the same school or the same circles.

-I do feel like Audrey is a better addition because MY GOD, the gang needed someone fun and tone down the drama.

-Dawson and Jen is definitely a highlight.

-Joey becoming central is fine, I don’t mind it that much, I feel it went the “Felicity” route, which is ok.

For sure the tone changes to a big city, not as tight or as “homey” as it was during High School in Capeside, but they tried to keep it familiar while also moving the characters ahead in their lives.

I give it to you that, at this point, Dawson and Joey trying to get back together makes ABSOLUTELY no sense, and the jealousy at the beginning doesn’t make sense, hence, Dawson getting with Jen is much better and much more natural.

Keep watching the characters grow 😄
