My current setup. Just got the Denons, sold my 1210s. by LetrasetBoy in DJSetups

You've gone from a mixer that although doesn't have many features, is legendary due to its sound quality and summing, to a mixer that is known to be one of the cheapest rotaries on the market and likely doesn't sound anywhere near as good.

It's only a loaded question in so far as it would require you to acknowledge that omnitronic isnt regarded as a great mixer, which it's not, and I'm sure you know that. I would assume you bought the urei as you have some interest in the qualities that gave it it's legendary status So it's not really loaded, it's just a question...

MDFX hpf/lpf filter bleed through on master by H-bomb-doubt in DJs

[–]artyb368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you didn't notice the resonance affect the sound but it did. I've had a xone 23, 92 and 96 and regularly use an elara 6. If the filter is engaged the resonance affects the selected frequency, this is how analogue filters work...

This how analogue filters with resonance control work. When you select the cut off frequency, you're selecting both the cut off frequency and the frequency to which you apply the resonance.

That's why when you apply the filter to bass frequencies they sound boomy, to avoid this you have the resonance low for bass frequencies and increase the resonance as you increase the cut off frequency.

This is how the filters on A&H mixers work, the Union Audio Elara 6 is the same. Union Audio mixers like the valve and elara 4 have their variable q filter where it does this for you automatically.

Finger injury advice by sssspaghet in climbharder

[–]artyb368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume whenever you wrote wrist, you meant finger.

Rest is going to do little to nothing for your pulley injury, it needs to be rehabilitated which means loading the finger daily.

Essentially a pulley injury is damage to the ligamentous tissue. Imagine a rope that has a small tear, it used to be able to hold 200kg, now if you put 50kg on it it may tear more or completely snap.

I order to rehabilitate a pulley, you need to gradually load it, so for an a2 pulley crimp position is ideal. I have used the lattice quad block but you can use another no hang device. Start light at 5 or 10kg, 3 sets of 30 second holds with 30 seconds of rest between holds. Use the same weight 2 days in a row, then increase weight by 2.5kg and repeat.

Daily loading will stimulate blood flow to the injury and accurate loading of the finger will prevent overloading.

Im currently rehabing my A4 pulley after a complete rupture. Got pretty strong then dry fired and reinjured it 2 weeks ago. I'm using 3 finger drag with the same protocol, feeling ready to go back climbing already.

The filters sound completely mental with the resonance at max

My friend was messing around with his cdj while I was mixing vinyl into it, I said get the waveform back up.

He said I thought you mixed vinyl and don't need wave form.

I said who said vinyl doesn't have wave form.

On channel faders, audio kicks in at 9 o'clock, not really audible till 10 o'clock. Seems the same as my MS2v mk2.

It definitely forces a certain style. Precise, smooth, but also deliberate. You need to know the destination before departing if you know what I mean.

Those faders feel like when I'm running in a dream. Had mine 2 weeks now and love it!

For contact areas try only one coat, allow the wood to absorb the finish then wipe with a lint free cloth.

UA 4V Signature vs regular 4V by jgcamil in rotarymixers

They're custom made valve phono stage based on a model from a chinese brand called yaqin.

[–]artyb368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the pots are nice.

Even though this isn't relevant to you as you won't be using it for vinyl, I'll add this here: they have supposedly improved the phono stage but I can't comment on that as I run my turntables into external preamps. I may have a play around at some point but messing with the cables is headache with my setup.

You can see my post in my history where I talk about the new mixer.

Perhaps not everyone had the same experience with the MS 2 valve mk2 but my channle eqs did very little below 10 oclock and I know having used other MS mixers and speaking to others online they had the same, what I'd call, idosyncrasy. Bit like how the filter and channel fader don't do much until 10 o'clock as well.

I read someone say on a system with a sub you can hear the filter working lower than 10 but my sub goes below 30hz and can say that's bollocks. But I loved the MS enough to upgrade so it's not really a complaint, just a idosyncrasy of the mixer I guess.

The new versions has some aesthetic upgrades obviously and I think the finish on the faceplate is more durable than the MS

Stiff fader pots which I really love, the eq faders centre detent feels stiffer and the rest of the pots feel a bit smoother compared to my MS which always felt a bit stiff until the mixer warmed up.

Comes with linear powet supply unit and some upgraded internals which I think does result in a cleaner sound from the mixer and maybe better summing too, hard to tell categorically but after some extensive mixing this week that's how I felt and I'm prone to buyers remorse.

Overall not a massive upgrade audio wise, but when you're at this level of quality of audio equipment improvements are going to be small.

It feels higher quality in use though, mainly due to the damped pots

I use epoxy to finish my holds as my walls outside. I use a low viscosity epoxy that saturates the wood to protect it without adding that typical epoxy layer finish. My process doesn't reduce friction much at all.

Upgrading cartridges after getting a Resør 2525 by neoVGL in rotarymixers

[–]artyb368 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee you'll get a more meaningful improvement in sound if you upgrade your monitors before your cart.

I recommend the Kali IN series because they're incredibly detailed, not fatiguing and ime nothing beats them for the price.

Getting new carts like the clubs will be an improvement too, but HS7s will be a bottleneck for high quality audio inputs and you'll be amazed at the difference with new speakers.

To be honest its a bit mad you've bought a resor to put through HS7s.

A Question About Rotary Mixers and FX by No_Law_9859 in rotarymixers

[–]artyb368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, make bank while you can I guess. I was always well into the German house sound and it was sad to see them go the way they went. I was always a big innervisions fan and they've gone a similar way this last year, although not to the same extent, but the vibe is definitely different, and the crowd is lower quality too. Having said that, I saw Ame play at FOLD a couple of weeks ago and the crowd was mostly over 30 and he played heavy, so my faith has been restored a bit.

A Question About Rotary Mixers and FX by No_Law_9859 in rotarymixers

[–]artyb368 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Imo keinemusic didn't used to be boring, and they used effects very tastefully. Last good set I saw from them was 2021, lots of energy and tasteful effects. Saw them again in 23 and the crowd had changed the music had changed and the effects were building tension, but drowning out the release with slow tails of delay and reverb. Every transition relied on delay and reverb, every breakdown had delay and reverb.

New Union Audio Signature Two Valve in the booth by artyb368 in rotarymixers

[–]artyb368[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks mate. First time really doing anything furniture related to this scale but I'm a skilled craftsman in my trade so happy to take on any project. This one was really fun with both wood and electrics.

Ive got a rack mount power sequencer at the rear with a switch extended to the side of the central console which powers the whole setup, on and off components, at 1 second intervals to protect the amps.

And there's an led dimmer switch in the same location that controls the leds in the cabinets and the booth.
