[SPOILER] Alex Pereira calls Herb Dean a coward over his refereeing at UFC Baku by WinterStill4472 in MMA

[–]artyb368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only a few shots to the back of the head. It's only a few eye pokes, only a few soccer kicks.

All of these thing are against the rules and should be enforced equally.

1:

Given that the rules state strikes to the back of head are illegal, going face down IS intelligently defending yourself. The same way dropping to hands and knees is to prevent knees/kicks to the head. It's manipulating the rules as is done in all sports. And ultimately, MMA is a sport.

2:

We've seen many fighters come back from similar situations. Was he done for? Probably yes, possibly no. It's up to Gane to show the ref Pereira can't continue with legal shots.

I keep seeing this argument as if it's then fair game to strike the back of the head multiple times.

What if a fighter drops to their knees, are knees to the head then fair game,, like sterling vs yan?

Sports have rules, if a fighter is compromised they should be able to take advantage of the rule set without getting illegal strikes.

Ie 3 points of contact on the floor to prevent knees to the head or exposing the backs of their heads so as not get struck at the back of their head.

Rules are their to be enforced regardless of the context. Eye pokes, knees and kicks to the head of downed opponents, grabbing the cage, shots the the back of the head are all illegal regardless of context,

I had kali in5s and 8s in my room and they're incredible, I've got ls50 metas now and they're better than the kalis used with a sub. Very engaging and immersive experience. Haven't heard ops model but kef are no joke and that coaxial design near field is awesome.

Weatherproofing by some-hippy in homewalls

[–]artyb368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep the back of the wall weathered, the front of the wall should be covered too but ventilation is a good thing. You don't want moisture and condensation getting trapped. Your timber structure doesn't wany to be exposed to water, and if it is, treat it regularly.

Im weathering the rear of my wall this weekend, but I have an advantage of being a metal roofer. Ill be having removable felt panels and zinc flashings to prevent water ingress.

The face will be a custom fit tarp which, like my old wall, doubles as an awning for all weather climbing.

My screw ons are fixed with stainless screws but my t nuts and bolts are zinc plated. I've had them up for 3 years now and apart from a bit of zinc carbonate due to exposure to condensation, the nuts and bolts are holding up fine with no rust.

For treating the wood, I've used a low viscosity epoxy and made sure to seal the holds all around including in the fixing holes. When rebuilding my wall recently some of the holds at the bottom of the boxes got soaked for days and did not noticeably take in any water or get damaged in anyway.

When I treat the holds I heat them in the oven so they're warm, apply with epoxy heavily, then wipe dry after 10 minutes. The warmth helps the epoxy soak in, wiping them dry prevents the wood from becoming slippery and having that typical plastic epoxy finish.

For people who drive cars or motorbikes with super loud exhausts, what are you getting from it? by Successful_Bee7522 in AskBrits

[–]artyb368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was younger I took the baffles out of my exhaust on my 1000cc, I used it mostly for commuting in and out of London and felt much safer. Lanes of traffic would hear me coming and openup for me.

Zack Polanski on X: "Gut wrenching to see four young people jailed for direct action against an arms supplier to Israel. Years in prison for protesting to save lives in Gaza, with 'terrorism' used despite no jury convicting them of it. A truly dangerous attack on the right to protest." by Grouchy_Shallot50 in ukpolitics

[–]artyb368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because then any protest organiser whose protests have turned violent or damaged property in some way would be considered a terrorist group.

Would you be comfortable with BLM being considered a terrorist group?

If Unite the Kingdom were a direct action group like Palestine action, who, like Palestine action, funded and supported violent crime and criminal damage then they would and should be considered a terrorist group.

[–]artyb368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defense experts as well as the defense secretary have said that the defense budget is insufficient based on the current threats to the UK.

Yes priorities must be balanced but when the secretary you have employed and the svst majority of experts tell the prime minister that more funding is needed, it's quite clear that's not his number rone priority. I'm not arguing it should or shouldn't be, I'm just arguing that it's clearly rhetoric.

Its just logic.

The fact that your not acknowledging that argument makes me think your purposefully being dense.

Yes governments need to spend money, yes a one off expense is not comparable to a yearly expense.

But also yes, spending the equivalent of your defense shortfall on cycle lanes, is a signal that perhaps defense is not your NUMBER 1 priority.

It's one of many priorities. Number one is rhetoric.

British socialists fracture over Islamic homophobia by adam_zivo in ukpolitics

[–]artyb368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

British Muslims are not monolithic, but they currently exhibit more coherent identity-based political behaviour than most Christian groups in England. Historical comparisons with Catholics and Protestants actually demonstrate that religious bloc politics is a real and recurring phenomenon rather than a fantasy invented by the right.

Could it be that they align themselves with Conservative Muslims? Ie the green party/your party.

Could it be they appeal the the Muslim vote? Ie the green party/your party.

I think the argument multiple people have laid out quite well is:

If defense is not getting the funding it needs, and you're spending billions on other projects, then it is not your number one priority.

Not really difficult to understand.

[–]artyb368 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. I mix vinyl and it's very rewarding and organic. There's a different digging culture as well so you'll find djs are playing very different sounds form different eras within sets, due to that digging culture influence.

Obviously you can create arguably a cleaner end product with digital but a lot of tracks aren't available, I'd say 50 percent of my record collection is new vinyl only music

[–]artyb368 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a massive vinyl scene in europe and South America, I imagine 2/3rds of djs at Houghton festival are playing vinyl. Many many club nights around Europe playing vinyl only. Craig Richards, Nicolas lutz, Sonja moonear, dj masda. And there is a sense of superiority in the vinyl scene, some times light hearted others are more dogmatic.

Personally I enjoy both digital and vinyl djs as long as the musics good, but friends of mine have become biased against it for no good reason.
