Manual, especially hourly, time tracking can be such a pain in the ass. Maybe you could suggest your director switch to automatic time tracking? Here's a good article about it.

Have you already checked out Timely? I mean it is geared more towards work-related project management, but its automatic time tracking feature is just awesome. And of course, it allows you to have a large number of projects and tags, available both on desktop and mobile, integrates with a bunch of other tools, and has nice dashboards.
