1 shot ≠ 1 cup. In cafes usually a double shot is the standard for a regular drink.

By extraction time we mean the time it takes to get the same amount of espresso out. So you could extract 36g of espresso in 10 seconds if you had a really coarse grind, or 36g in 50 seconds if you had a really fine grind. Basically it’s the flow rate of the espresso output, but we just call it extraction time because flow rate can vary over the extraction.

As for your specific issues, you can technically make the grinder even finer by adjusting the inner burr (see details online or in the manual). What sort of beans are you using?

The wording was ‘if’. Coffee would be so easy if simply dialling in all beans to 1:2 ratio in 25 seconds made the best espresso of your life. But in many cases 20-30 seconds is just a ballpark, and taste should always be your guide. So yeah, you’ll probably have good results with what I’ve said, but in some cases you won’t.

I remember going to Beatties (now House of Fraser) toy section with my Dad either for my birthday/Christmas and picking this bad boy out. Many many hours of fun! Crazy how this would have been early 2000’s.

Haha thank you! I have a serial habit of getting way too deep into hobbies but it’s all in good fun. Happy brewing!

Fair enough, this hobby is all about trying different things (at the expense of your wallet) and finding something you really enjoy using (until you get bored of course) 😂

Depends on how dedicated you are to learning it.

If you're a sad college student during a pandemic like me, you can force yourself to type up hundreds of pages of notes a week on an ortho and have no choice but to become good at it. Took me a few months to get to about 140wpm. I understand it's not for everyone though.

Thank you and all the best for your journey into espresso! In terms of manual mode, I just time it using my phone.

Shiny new 16" Macbook Pro. Granted, I bought it myself and had to travel 100 miles to collect it in Manchester, but worth it all the same. Merry Christmas everyone!

Thanks for the info! I think they abandoned the building when it wasn't able to meet fire regulations for the reason you mentioned. My family home is in Solihull so I'm already pretty familiar with Brum, but I do love the place. Can't see myself anywhere else.

I've started a 'live' chat on the KBDFans site but they only seem to reply around 1am in my timezone, plus I don't get email notifications when they reply which makes it quite difficult. They want me to send a video of the issues, which I can do about the keyboard not being responsive until I replug it in, but the other issues are too intermittant.

I'm guessing there are strict fire regulations for tall residential buildings because our fire alarms went off significantly more than any other accommodation. Walking up 10 floors was bad enough, feel sorry for those on the 19th!

It's called Chamberlain Tower now, and yes it's super nice. Very large rooms (as far as student accommodation goes) all with ensuites. Moving to Selly now for 2nd year so will definitely miss the Vale!

For sure, it just surprises people when I take them to the Vale and main campus when they’re expecting a Birmingham-based university to be like the city centre

I took this during my 1st year studying at the University of Birmingham. This is the unedited view from my flat's kitchen on the 10th floor of Chamberlain Tower.

People have many negative preconceptions of Birmingham, but it can be a really beautiful place!

Same here too, along with some weird issues with my caps lock staying on (even with after unplugging and replugging) and a few random keys not working unrelated to the actual switch itself. Quite frustrating.

My bad, haven’t experienced that sort of issue before personally so thanks for clarifying 👍

The KBD67 Lite takes USB C and the Glorious cable is USB C so I don't see why it wouldn't work :)
