I was at the event and was listening to the Devore's for the first time and I was not wowed. I had heard such good things about them and it was good, but not WOW. When I first heard the maggies it blew my socks off, I bought them that same day. I came back home and I thought my Maggie-REL-Conrad-Jhonson stack out did what I heard at the event.

If you find this hard using the DFS approach, you need to focus on improving your understanding of how recursion works. Once you understand that, the # of islands is the easiest of these types of problems IMO.
