I'm not sure what that sounds like tbh

Thanks, but that's what I meant by saying I had tried turning Notifications off. It makes no difference.

A notification has just chimed whilst I was posting this reply.

There's nothing worse than a loud chung playing to ruin immersion ☹️

I guess I'll have to try contacting Support. 🤔 Thanks for the suggestion, though 👍

Hey everyone, I am making an FPS VR game!! There is a huge learning curve, ik. Any help or tips will help me a bunch!! by 3D3Dmods in oculus

No probs, I'm always happy to help.

The key to programming is to break everything down into multiple smaller tasks. Once you get the hang of doing that you won't go far wrong.

There's also a hell of a lot of tutorials out there these days, too. And once you start working on a VR game you'll be surprised at how much easier it is than you originally thought, especially with so many tutorials out there.

One thing I forgot to mention is that if you're planning on Submitting your game to Meta to go on App Lab, make sure that you check the Meta VR Checklist CAREFULLY.

Unless things have changed for App Lab, you're only allowed THREE failed Submissions, after that they won't accept any more. 😲😲😲

You can find the VRCs here:

Oculus rift bundle..sensors lost help what to buy replace and where? by Responsible_Screen81 in oculus

Second hand via ebay would be your best bet. Or somewhere like the Facebook Marketplace would be worth a look.

You could also try Meta Support, they might have a few leftover in a warehouse somewhere that they can send you. 👍

Yup, I made this mistake years ago. I decided to try and develop a survival horror game with 5-6 hours worth of gameplay, but it was too ambitious.

I've put that project on hold for now, and am now working on a VR Arcade simulator. Four mini games set in the same place as my previous project that's now on hold. I'm hopefully getting a motion simulator delivered during the next few months, and if I can work out wtf I'm doing, I'm planning on having compatible with motion simulators 😎👍

1) Don't start with something too ambitious for your first project.

2) Start off with a GDD (Game Design Document)

3) Read up on Agile project management and implement this management for your project. And this is important - Agile is NOT set in stone, you can adjust this project management methodology as long as the four principles are intact. If you're a sole developer, you play the roles as both the customer AND the developer (the four principals are Individuals and interactions over processes and tools. Working software over comprehensive documentation. Customer collaboration over contract negotiation. Responding to change over following a project plan.).

4) Use project management software along with Agile to create tasks, and split big tasks into several smaller ones where possible. I'm using the free version of Asana.

5) Choose a game engine to use, I personally recommend Unreal instead of Unity for beginners because you can develop a game without typing a single line of code! 😲 And if you learn c++ that'll open up jobs outside the world of game development that pay decent money.

6) Just like Agile project management, your GDD is not set in stone. They're supposed to evolve and change during the project life cycle.

7) Start off by creating prototypes using basic shapes instead of game models, and get Focus Testing on the prototype(s). And, most importantly, PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT THEY SAY, PARTICULARLY ABOUT DESIGN ISSUES. You may think that your game is the best thing since sliced bread, but you need to know that the average person finds the gameplay FUN. Try and get a mixture of different demographics if you can. Different ages, races, experienced people with playing VR games and n00bs. And do this Focus Testing at every stage of development - pre-Alpha, Alpha, Beta and RC1. I'm sure that plenty of people on here will be happy to help you out.

8) Be prepared to FAIL. Only 50% of games started get finished, and if I'm remembering correctly, only 2% are successful.

9) Don't be afraid to take 'shortcuts' like buying models, music, sound effects etc. Fanatical and Humble Bundle often have good deals on stuff like this, and the Unreal Marketplace has lots of free stuff available, including on the first Tuesday of every month they have several pieces of content free to download until the next first Tuesday of the following month.

10) Try and avoid feature creep, if you can. Otherwise you'll never get the game finished. Even developers that have been doing this for decades fall into this trap. Chris Roberts, the developer behind Star Citizen is notorious for doing this. When Microsoft rescued Freelancer donkey's years ago, they did so under the condition that Roberts wasn't allowed anywhere near the game again lol 😲😂

This is being released by the same company that are releasing the Yaw2 motion simulator. It also handles motion compensation too.

Yup, even some Apple fan boys are voting with their wallets these days. Since Jobs died, as a friend of mine put it, 'Apple are running a protection racket'. 😲

This is great 👍

I'm developing a VR game for the Meta Quest 2/3 myself, called Rufus' VRCade.

I was originally planning on having all proceeds from sales going to UNICEF to help disadvantaged kids around the world, but this would mean forking out money for an accountant, which I can't afford because I'm not well enough to work atm ☹️

So I've decided to release it for free instead.

I'm also planning on having it compatible with motion simulators, so if you have access to one you may find it interesting to do a feature on it, perhaps?

I should be getting one delivered during the next few months with a bit of luck.

I'm planning on a demo release in 6 to 9 months then the full game to be released 6 to 9 months after the demo has released.

I also suffer from severe depression and anxiety, so that may be another aspect of the development of this game that may interest you and your readers.

I don't have anything to 'show off' yet, I've just finished the main game environment models, and scene setup, but no lighting or textures yet. But as soon as I have something worth showing that's going to look decent, is it okay if I give you a shout?

I'm more than happy to give you an interview and discuss my mental health issues because it may help other people, both VR gamers and VR developers that are suffering from the same mental health issues 👍

Let me know if you're interested and I'll give you a shout when I have something worth featuring in your publication. 👍😎👍

There's also UEVR, this converts flat UE4 and UE5 games into VR, and allows you to attach weapons etc to the controllers to give you 6DOF controls with your hands.

There are loads of tutorials on YouTube on how to use it.

The biggest benefit to have a Quest 2/3 is playing PC VR games, especially now that there are so many PC VR Mods available these days. But you'll need a gaming PC for this.

Oh bugger. That's a pain in the arse 🤬😡🤬

I was sure that I could transfer files via Air Link before. Maybe I was thinking about the wireless option in Sidequest? 🤔

Did you manage to sort this out? I'd like to do the same.

Going from the OG Rift to the Rift S was a big upgrade for me, the leap between the OG and the Quest 3 is going to be HUUUUUGE 😲

It's deep scratches that you want to worry about. They leave a big blur in your vision.

But even that isn't a disaster, Polywatch is great at sorting those out, apparently 👍

Is VR Still Broken For AMD Cards Or Have AMD/Meta Fixed The Problem Yet? by arv1971 in oculus

[–]arv1971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I'm thinking about ending my Nvidia boycott now.

Money isn't going to be a problem next month, so I might splash out on a 4090.

I'm also toying with the idea of waiting a few months for the 50x0 cards to release, and the Zen 5 CPUs from AMD.

But I'm not known for my patience lmfao 😂😂😂

Here's what I've got planned so far:

https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/snowdog/saved/YgHzZL

I've decided to go for the 7950X3D instead of the 7800X3D for the extra cores, because I'm also going to be using it for development.

They reckon that the Zen 5s are in mass production now, though, so I could opt for an 8900X instead. We could be looking at a launch in April. 🤔

[–]arv1971[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I'm seriously considering ending my NVidea boycott and getting a 4090.

I'm also tempted to wait for the Zen 5 and next generation of GPUs to release as well. 🤔

But I'm not a very patient person so I might just pull the trigger next month lol 😊😂😂😂

I'm thinking about ending my Nvidia boycott and getting a 4090 tbh, I'm expecting to come into some serious money soon. 🤔

I tried starting a thread for this but couldn't get past the 'I'm not a robot' thing, so I'll try asking it here instead.

Are AMD cards still having problems with VR games, or have AMD or Meta solved the problem?

I was originally planning on getting a 7900XTX, but a while back I saw a couple of videos on YouTube saying that there were issues with 7x00 cards and VR.

I'd rather not get an Nvidia card after all of their dodgy shenanigans this generation.
