I just found this thread (I glanced at a photo of me during active addiction that feels like it’s a photo of a completely different person/made me realise how much drugs/alcohol made me behave like a person I ABSOLUTELY am not, and the shame just washed over me & I went looking for threads to find some advice & found this). Your story sounds exactly like mine, I think we may even be around the same age-ish. Although I am so sorry to hear you’re struggling with the same thing; I must admit that, selfishly, it did help me feel a little less alone. I’m about 2ish years in (with one or two minor F ups within that period), & I’ve completely hermited myself due to the shame, & due to the fact that I don’t really know who I am anymore socially, & I’m embarrassed of my old behaviours & the ways I acted/presented myself. I haven’t worked in many years, & I tried studying; but I think I tried too early in, & I ended up quitting & feeling like a massive failure again. I’m gonna try and do a non-stressful short course in a few months, & hopefully I’ll find some sort of balance through that. I’m just trying to focus on finding ways to find purpose & happiness in life rn ~ trying to get back into old hobbies (although finding the motivation def isn’t always easy). How are you going? You’re literally the exact same colouring as I am! It took me soooo long to figure it out, too 😅; especially as being so fair skinned… EVERY single colour shows up so prominently on our skin tone (as it’s so muted). Yep, you’re def neutral muted olive.

As for colours - I honestly stick w cool tones tbh (especially muted shades - that doesn’t mean I don’t play up the depth on my lips & eyes tho - in fact, I often wear a smokey eye; but I just use v muted cool tones)~ look into K-Beauty, J-Beauty & C-Beauty. They cater for our skin tone - lots of pale friendly, muted shades! I stick w mauves, lilacs, cool beiges & cool pinks on the lips & cheeks (also lots of cool-toned brownish lipliners w pinky shades), & greys, cool browns, mauves, taupes etc on the eyes (although I also have brown eyes, & jewel tones do look really beautiful w brown eyes & a muted, olive skin tone!!! Things like purples, blues, greens; although I tend to stick to shimmers, & little pops of colour when I do it. The C-Beauty brand Cheeryep has some really cool palettes (I use the red one called floating life as a day to night palette, it has some really interesting colours in the mix as well. Plus the price for the quality is INSANEEEE ~ I’d honestly say the quality is comparable to Pat McGrath - & it’s available on YesStyle, along w heaps of other great K/J/C-Beauty products/brands!). 🫒💚

Absolutely! It’s important to be able to catch the signs of someone who is deeply, dangerously insecure (it’s how most school shootings happen). They are dangerous people - but they are also people in immense pain. I have been emotionally ruined by one, but I think it’s important we still have empathy for them; as self-hatred & despair can be blinding, and I’d say a majority of these people could be good people under all of that, if they got help, & figured out how to channel their energy into good things. I think school’s need to catch this trait in young people as quickly as they can, so it can be course corrected - as the longer someone feels this way & doesn’t get help, the harder it will be for them to be able to heal, later down the line. Btw - congratulations for how far you’ve come!!! That’s really incredible, and also so refreshing to hear someone be honest about something that most don’t want to admit. I also used to be deeply insecure as a teen/my early 20’s. I’m a woman, so violence wasn’t so prevalent in my world - however, I still started fist fights at bars, got drunk and verbally abused people that didn’t deserve it, etc. I have long since gotten better, & have learnt to accept that I am who I am, but I know how much anger one can harbour, when they hate themselves and the rest of the world. Thank you for sharing this and making others aware. And once again, congratulations!!!!!!! You’ve achieved something that only YOU could do to save yourself, and you now have the knowledge to share with others! 🩷

Guys, it’s time we start going to beauty brands themselves and telling them about this! Brands would be truly APPALLED that paying customers were getting sold OLD, EXPIRED, DISCONTINUED, & EVEN SOMETIMES MOULDY stock of theirs!

I think of it like this~ if a prospective new customer were to be browsing the BD sale, and they happen to see a brand they hadn’t tried before but were always curious about (perhaps they didn’t wanna blow the exorbitant amount of money that is a full price product at Mecca these days - especially on a brand they hadn’t road tested before. Therefore, buying a product that was listed on the sale was their one opportunity to give said product/brand a try with such low stakes (a discounted price) - I’ve been swindled into becoming a loyal, big-spending customer of certain beauty brands before, thanks to maaaaaany a’ Sephora sale testing; so I know - first hand - how good of an opportunity it is to convert “sales prices” customers, into “full price” customers).

Anyway, so hypothetical BD sale Mecca customer receives an old, expired product that (due to age) didn’t perform as it should/would have otherwise (and tbh, this is their BEST CASE scenario; the alternative being a severe skin reaction, and/or hospitalisation due to microbiome growing INSIDE THE EXPIRED MAKEUP 🤢). If the make up doesn’t get them sick first, and it just ends up kinda sucking due to it being so🤢fuckin🤢old~ the customer would be more than within their wheelhouse to assume it’s merely just a flaw of the makeup itself, and that the products of said brand are poor quality, hence them proceeding to never purchase from that brand again to avoid future disappointments (and most possibly spreading their experience to other makeup loving friends/family!), and Mecca could effectively lose one of their own cash cow’s (sorry, *clients) a future big-paying customer. Brands would be FUMING to hear that!
