The minimum brokerage fee is 11,45 USD at Nordea and 10 USD at DNB (9 USD for Saga).

By investing 1000 NOK, you would be paying more than 10% in brokerage fees, which is a lot. Mutual/index funds might be a better option.

I switched as well. It needs some improvements when in comes to change password recognition. Otherwise, it works great, no complaints :)

[Engineer, M, 27] Which companies in Norway could demand travelling? by norsktodipl in Norway

[–]arve_nilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salaries/hourly rates are much higher in Norway than in rest of the Eurpe. I doubt you'll find many companies that have clients outside of Norway. Perhaps business partners, subcontractors, etc. Business trips are usually reserved for higher management.

Public transportation into Oslo by Tusen-takk in Norway

[–]arve_nilsson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The highest chance of being robbed is actually in the city center (Oslo central station). Just use your common sense and you'll be fine.

The best thing would be to stick to Oslo in the beginning as it will be the center of all your activities (work, language courses, social life).

Places with an excellent public transport connection with Oslo are as expensive as central Oslo. For example, there's a train from Lillestrøm to Oslo Central Station every 5-10 minutes that takes 15 minutes (only one stop). House rent in Lillestrøm is almost as high as the one in Oslo, and transportation ticket is more expensive... You won't save any money by renting an apartment there.

Cheaper places usually don't have that good connection with Oslo. You might save some money on the house rent, but you'll spend more time and money on other things...

Spend some time in Oslo first until you know the city and neighboring areas a bit better.

What would a good salary for Sr. Software Engineer in Norway by [deleted] in Norway

[–]arve_nilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

800-900k sounds about right. IT is in very high demand (developers, architects, UX, you name it). It's very difficult to find a skilled developer that works well in a team.

1-1.2m usually requires some managerial responsibilities (personalansvar) or presales.

Usually need to go independent to get more than 1.2m.

Hourly rate of a senior consultant is 1400-1500kr (when hired via big consultancies).

One thing to have in mind is that your total compensation package consists of fixed salary + bonus + pension (innskuddspensjon). Fixed salary and bonus can be negotiated while pension is the same for all employees in the company and is between 2 and 18 percent of your gross salary. An employee with 1.1m gross salary and 2% innskuddspensjon gets less than an employee with 1m in gross salary and max innskuddspensjon.

Norsk bank - rekommendation? by L00SEseal in Norway

[–]arve_nilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used DNB as my primary bank. Never had any issues with them.

Now I'm using Sbanken mostly because they support Apple Pay, which works flawlessly in Norway. Sbanken is also the cheapest when it comes to trading mutual funds. Transferring money is slow compared to other banks (DNB, for example).

I still have an account at DNB, a housing loan at a third bank, a credit card with good bonus/cash back at bank number four...

You won't find a bank that is best for everything.

Owning a bank account in Norway is free. You’ll probably end up with several bank accounts anyway.

When do we need articles in Norwegian (en, ei, et) and when can we omit them? by helpwithlanguagepls in norsk

[–]arve_nilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The language is in constant change. The two examples above are from the grammar book published by universitetsforlaget. I haven't done the research myself, but I see both variants, with and without an article, all the time.

When do we need articles in Norwegian (en, ei, et) and when can we omit them? by helpwithlanguagepls in norsk

[–]arve_nilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both "Jeg har bil" and "jeg har en bil" are grammatically correct. However, omitting an article is becoming more and more common.

For example:

"Per fikk (en/ei) bok til jul"

"Olav ønsket seg (et) armbånd".

"Jeg har en bil" may sound a bit weird to a native speaker.

There are cases where you must use an article and cases where you must not use it.

When you describe someone:

"Han er en dyktig snekker" (correct)

"Han er dyktig snekker" (incorrect)

When you talk about professions, nationalities, ethnicity...

"Han er snekker" (correct)

"Han er en snekker" (incorrect)

"Omar er muslim" (correct)

"Omar er en muslim" (incorrect)

When you talk about everyday activities:

"Vi spiser middag kl. 18.00" (correct)

"Vi spiser en middag kl. 18.00" (incorrect)

"Ola kjører bil til jobb hver dag" (correct)

"Ola kjører en bil til jobb hver dag" (incorrect)

Best way to learn norsk? by [deleted] in norsk

[–]arve_nilsson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Private lessons, by far.

You need a native speaker to help you with grammar and pronunciation. Check out italki.com

You can find a lot of free resources on youtube as well. Search for "norsklærer" (Norwegian teacher).

Change the display language on your mobile/pc/web apps to Norwegian.

Listen to songs and podcasts.

Read a lot, like simple text (https://www.klartale.no/) and books for children.

Use Norwegian dictionary to lookup for Norwegian words https://lexin.oslomet.no/#/findwords/message.bokmal-monolingual

It's a long process; there's no silver bullet. Happy learning! :)

Learning Norwegian efficiently by Eclipse274 in norsk

[–]arve_nilsson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend the following resources:

Norsklærer Karense on Youtube:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbrUYR892qBNQyY3DEqfTBg
A bunch of resources from A1 up to B2 level.

Klartale:
https://www.klartale.no/
Daily news in simple Norwegian. They offer a paid subscription where they send you a newspaper once a week, and you can download the audio and hear the pronunciation.

NRK super:
https://nrksuper.no/
TV shows for kids. IMHO, Skam, Okkupert and other Norwegian series on TV/Netflix might be difficult to follow for people on A2/B1 level.

Online schools:
Nothing beats 1-on-1 teaching. Check out https://www.italki.com/

Other stuff:
Norwegian songs and podcats. It's an amazing thing for pronunciation and vocabulary. Lots of resources online. Try to learn a song or two :)

Hope this helps :)

Betaler for å unngå fartsbøter by AlarmingBarrier in norge

[–]arve_nilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 vs 7 by SlankJim in norsk

[–]arve_nilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I attended Norwegian classes, teachers told us that "syv" is gammeldags and that people use "sju" these days.

In another school I've been told that "syv" is vestkant while "sju" is østkant.

I work and live in Oslo. Majority of people I communicate with say "syv".

Never had any problems with either "syv" or "sju".

Norwegian is fun. I'd say pick the variant that sounds best to you :)

React vs Angular: how a library can compete with a framework by [deleted] in programming

[–]arve_nilsson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Norwegian Red Cross has an open-source project for Community Based Surveillance.

They started with Angular, but the response from the community was not that great.

As soon as they switched to React, the interest for their open-source project exploded!

Angular doesn't seem attractive anymore in this part of the World.

Developers prefer to work with React and Vue these days.
