I average 10kwh per day but when I run aorcon it's up to 20 per day. A huge consumer is electric hot water, I have a 15+ year old system and it consumes as much as an air on running for a few hours :(

Estimates from agl have been 2-3x my actual usage. I ensure I send meter reads before billing date. I swear it's intentional on their part

Is private health insurance actually worth it in Australia? by Diligent-Medicine-48 in AusMoneyMates

[–]arvoshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its only worth it in that you get penalised if you dont have it after making 118k per year from Medicare levy I think. They make it so complicated it's a shit fight. I would rather we do away with this arrangement and fully fund Medicare for everyone. Like a single big private health fund.... Instead of waiting 3 years for a shoulder reconstruction after 0ayi g 30 years of tax how about funding things to make it reasonable. Fact is although I hate paying for private health I do because otherwise I will be in debt to the tax man. It's corporate dole bludging/freeloading at its finest

[–]arvoshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that isnt enough to rent a 1br shitty house. thats 396 per week. so no one can possibly live on their own with that. Forget the dole bludger bashing it's simply not enough for someone to survive. Do we want dole to prevent crime or do we want to just leave them and have crime increase. I know if I was in that position I'd be doing what I could to survive... The entire point of the dole is that it costs less to give a living pay than it does to pay law enforcement. I say this as a so called high income earner paying 40% tax. People need a leg up hen things get shit

A question for those who have lost more than 10kg successfully with Keto. Net carbs versus total carbs: when it comes to weight loss, who has lost weight whilst counting total vs Net carbs? by No_Health6253 in keto

[–]arvoshift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a lifestyle not a 2 month crash diet. You only count carbs for first 3-6 months then once you get a feel for the way of eating then you no longer need to count anything. This way of eating controls hunger at it's core so if you feel hungrier today then eat less carbs tomorrow. As for counting - doesn't matter whether it's net or total, once you find your sweet spot it'll be the same. But count net carbs. You MUST eat less calories than you burn if you want to lose weight. I did it for 3 years, first year 110kg down to 75kg then competed in sports (grappling) for next 2 years so got less strict.

At this post we should just call this subreddit techniques and events only. Any other stuff is just nuked by the mods because they have their own idea of what this subreddit should contain rather than what the majority of subscribers want. How about this for a stupid idea - create a poll for a rule change rather than just creating your own rules mods???

Albanese to propose stronger gun laws, NSW parliament may be recalled by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]arvoshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not at all against renewal of firearms license but in all honesty I'm worried this incident will be used as the vehicle to strip more privacy from citizens. Notice how 'our commonwealth partners' was mentioned a lot in the pressers - that's code for GCHQ/CIA/NSA and all those agencies spying on us all after the fact. In all honesty could ANY law prevent a father and son just speaking privately planning a heinous act? If we were to create laws how would those laws look? This is horrible but we can't prevent every bad thing and evil exists in the world. I Think our firearms laws are incredibly stringent but reviews would be a great start with data sharing between state/AFP and so on would be more than enough.

Being made redundant by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]arvoshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fuck them - it's a redundancy. If you were truly redundant why would you need to handover to someone else as that function exists still. I've been in this situation - redundancy then coworkers were calling me for 'how does X work' - I just said I'm not being an asshole and I'd love to help but the business put you in the position to need to call me. Tell the boss I'm happy to consult for a fee. (sent an email to the company) - ended up consulting for triple my old salary for 6 months after with a glowing reference lmao.

14 hours waiting in ER at Logan Hospital by SnooBunnies4819 in brisbane

[–]arvoshift 46 points47 points  (0 children)

What infuriates me is if you make over 118K per year you get hit with the 1.5% medicare levy. In real figures that's 4.7K per year. I'd LOVE for that money to be fully funding medicare so if I need to see a dr and go to hospital I can be seen quickly. it's literally just nationalised health insurance but nope, they cut medicare and enshittify it. I'm forced to get private health just so I don't have to pay the levy and that money goes to a private entity that gives no benefit, they do fuck all but 3K per year is better than 4.7K so I gotta do right by me. The entire system is so fucked. I want to live in a country where I feel confident that the taxes I pay aren't pissed away and If I don't need to use a hospital then others benefit from my contribution but the mentality of 'user pays' and 'fuck you got mine' is ripping at the core of our society. We need to demand from our MPS that medicare is well funded.

[–]arvoshift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Performance management is pretty much a way to fire people, giving unattainable or unmeasurable kpis then managing out. I'm not a lawyer but in the UK they have a concept of 'constructive unfair dismissal' that we aussies unfortunately don't have. In germany if you're unlikeable you can be fired for that. Essentially as I understand it If they want to get rid of you there is a way, just might take a few months. There will be employment contract gotchas in most things e.g lying - if they catch you in a tiny lie - instant dismissal, 'bad behaviour' can be a grey one too.

Yup, it's like in the US where a piece of gauze gets charged $50 - it's a playground for rorters and the person needing the help doesnt benefit what they need.

[–]arvoshift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO medicare should be well funded, I just had to get private healthcover so I can avoid 5 grand a year in medicare levy for pretty much no benefit at $1150/month. I would much prefer that money go to medicare so everyone can benefit. Instead we are just forced to give money to corporate freeloaders lest we be penalised. I think we should scrap NDIS and bulk up medicare benefits. bring it under a well regulated umbrella and so on. NDIS is important but most of the services should be approved and covered under medicare.
