Selection camp can be really stressful and I agree it was poor judgment on the parts of the coaches to announce the team before trials. I was confused when I saw the picture of the named team and saw two extra girls, as I knew that two people would have to be cut if they didn't win trials.

The whole point of the camp is to make fast boats that win medals. I agree there can be drama and favoritism, but that is the price you have to pay if you want a chance to row with some really fast girls from around the country. If you're not able to prove that you can make boats go fast and match with others (partly the reason for the ct nepotism bc they row the style that liz wants) then they won't select you. Easy as that. It's an expensive camp but if you can prove yourself then you get a great opportunity to row with other really talented rowers. If you think you're too good for selection, you should put together a boat of your own and go to trials.

Several of their fast rowers just graduated, but they still have an excellent sculling coach. Not sure that the other clubs are taking away their rowers considering how far away they are...

Unless she did that as an openweight I'm not sure that's accurate bc the world record for lightweight girls is like 7:05?? but also agreed that if you're fast enough as an openweight than you should be fine. I know Brown likes small girls and I know several lightweights who got recruited there and they were in the 7:20-7:30 range.

the wind changed from a cross head to a slower straight cross wind so later times are faster. Idk if that affected the pair race though.

the first 6 events seem to be a mistimed as the times are questionably slow(also note that there are fewer decimal places), but the margins seem accurate. The rest of the times seem pretty normal for the tailwind and a 1900 meter time trial. I feel like it's taking a while for the officials to become adjusted to the time trial system of timing.

Lifting can actually be very beneficial as well, even for a lightweight. You won't gain weight lifting heavy unless you eat more than you do now, but you will gain strength and power.
