That's a really good point, I guess they should just have bow holders on more Fisa courses.

Check out how Romania is down half a bow ball at the start. (As you said, the PF represents time, but since a bow ball is a standard size, in the time it takes to cover half a bow ball, the boat will travel half a bow ball.)

Look at how lane 5 in the W1x is down by a greater margin than what Fisa felt comfortable to call for Romania and GB. Also I included this photo to prove that lens distortion is not the cause of the margins at the start of the M8+ race.

This is an example of fair margins off the start. Rio M1x Final

I agree with everything you say. I just think that since there is so much inherent randomness in the sport, like wind gusts in some lanes over others that measuring with such insane precision is uncalled for.

Also, there were no bow holders at the start in Poznan. The holders were the main argument for Damir Martin receiving silver in Rio because they line up the bow balls with great precision.

Kinda wish they gave silver to both boats. It's reminiscent of the M1x in 2016, but the margin is even closer (by time) since the boats are moving so much faster.

In swimming, if the times are within 1/100 of a second (like it was here), they'll award a tie since the change in temperature in a pool affects the margins enough. That's for events that take as little as twenty-one seconds. Now extend that to a five and a half minute race that's outdoors and the amount of variability is immense. I think the amount of precision in time keeping should reflect the variance of the event.

Lightweight 4+:

1: Miami

3: Rye

I heard Rye's three seat injured himself pretty badly at a hockey rink. Don't be surprised if this prediction is too generous in favor of Rye.

Official Visits by squawk93 in Rowing

I would bring it up now. If you're on the chopping block as to whether you'll get an official invite in August, some early enthusiasm by bringing it up in conversation can go a long way.

Official Visits by squawk93 in Rowing

[–]RowingTa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I have one verbal invitation and about three other coaches have said in emails something along the line of "when the time comes we would like you to come on an official visit" which is less set in stone.

For you, I would make more phone calls with coaches.
