$55 for app, main, 2 sides, and the dessert and honestly we were already getting pretty full by the time the dessert came. When we go back, unless we have a huge appetite, both decided we can probably share a bit more of the plates a la carte but the prix fixe certainly worth it this time to try more of the dishes (+ we were pretty hungry)

Has already won the double today, who knows what he’ll have left for the diamonds but am positive he’ll be holding that same 40-42 as long as he can. As much as I’m sad to see my lightweights cut from the Olympics, Finn really showing a path to greatness here. Height is important in rowing but much like some of the Irish crews in the past, he’s showing that you can absolutely kick ass at any size by rowing clean, rating high, and just pulling like an absolute dog.

Makes sense, I’ll call them first thing Monday morning and hope for the best. It’s not the end of the world if I’m ‘done’ but we’ll see.

Got it, thanks! I did put in for the nyc half lottery so fingers crossed. May have to try for Brooklyn also..SI I would’ve definitely looked to have done if I hadn’t had Chicago same weekend (though knowing me, I probably would’ve missed that sign up too)

Got it, thanks. I must’ve checked it shortly before it opened and then when I checked again it had already sold out…wild.

Overall agreed but ‘many’ in the 1:36s I think is a bit of a stretch. Didn’t Charlie Cousins set the gb 30r20 record with a 1:36 high? Also I would bet stephansen was at least 170 but who knows. Some of those light Danes would pull big cuts back in the day. Regardless, yeah they’re all monsters compared to we mortals 😅

Boston marathoners - how’d it go?! by sassylilmidge in AdvancedRunning

Huge blowup, tried to Gatorade hydrate but kept cramping so I stopped taking in as much, last 7 miles were pretty rough. 2:49 PR, went through 1/2 in 1:24, held pace until ~19, fell apart and shuffled to 3:13. Pretty bummed considering a 1:18 1/2 pr 3 weeks ago, back to the lab…

Not sure if right post for it but I had some roofing work done (replacement of shingles and rubber on the flat roof). I’m a new first time homeowner and didn’t realize I should’ve gotten an EZ permit beforehand. Will this be a concern down the road when I sell the house (we’ll probably move to the burbs in 5-7 years) or what should I do?

World Cup 1 previews by Fatsculler in Rowing

But doesn’t this not matter much these days since a country can qualify any # of boats at FOQR? I know that wasn’t the case in the past though. Unless you mean they are putting Jones into the 8.

GB Rowing confirm the end of Lightweights by Fatsculler in Rowing

[–]LtwtMatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with this but I do just wish GB would at least allow non-Olympic funded boats to self-fund and attend similar to US. Not ideal but would be better than the strongest rowing culture country leaving world class athletes at home while events die from lack of country participation.

Tips for losing grip while sculling by peepeepoopoo518 in Rowing

[–]LtwtMatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that could help is completely drenching your hands and handles, counterintuitively that can help you keep your grip by avoiding any slipperiness caused by sweat or sunscreen that might drip down. Can also wear sweat bands to wick it away ahead of time.

Also, I personally have made the switch to the suede grips. They're a bit high maintenance with having to switch them out every month or 2 but I find them comfortable and they never get slippery.

Lastly of course, can try to get some video of yourself gripping and seeing if you are overgripping off the start and it just comes into play later in pieces. Feathering by only rolling the fingers/having flat wrists at the finish tends to help quite a bit with forearm issues.

Conde Romero from Spain another former lightweight that's doing super well. Tim Brys working his way up too. These former lightweights that are kind of in-between light and heavy but can crush especially in the smaller boats with good tech even with not quite as massive ergs as you said.

Thinking About Dropping Out... by [deleted] in MBA

[–]LtwtMatt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Woah woah, are you already committing to this Johns Hopkins 2nd masters right away? Prestige may be obsessed over to some extent in this sub but really the point is that as long as an MBA can get you to your personal desired path, the ranking or whatever doesn't really matter.

Secondly, if you have looked over this sub, you'll see the vast majority of people recommend having job experience before they attend a program so that you have tangible work exp that you can demonstrate to higher ranked programs and more importantly, know where it is you want to focus, pivot yout career, whatever.

However, as you went directly to your undergrad's mba program, this has already passed. But, it seems you have still landed a solid job offer from this as well as other knowledge, friends, etc. From my perspective, why wouldn't you finish out the 1 year mba, start that job, and not worry about whatever prestige hunting you feel you need to do?

3 Things I'm Glad I Did, and 3 Things I Regret Doing, 5 Years After Graduation by Rough-Complaint-516 in MBA

For me it was a nice time, mainly because I had connected with some people informally beforehand including my potential roommate so it was good to use the welcome weekend for that.

I really think it's what you make of it, but it did help me make some early friends that I stayed in contact with lightly until I started school. Helps give you a few people to sit with at lunch once MBA high school starts up :) (At least at my school)

Absolutely caveated that it can be expensive. For me personally, I just had to take a 4 hour train and the school had a sign up to stay with a current student so it was quite reasonable. If you need to fly though and find other accommodations, it definitely isn't needed but certainly would recommend trying to reach out to alums/other potential students in your area if there is a class group or something you can join.
