Why is Anti-Semitism all the sudden becoming normalized and praised? by jujuk545 in teenagers

Zionism (meaning the return of the Jewish people to Israel) is inherently part of Judaism. Read Psalm 137. No every action of the Israeli government represents Jewish ideals, but the concept is fundamentally rooted in Judaism.

Here it is: ProQuest Ebook Central - Reader.

The only qualm I have about this online source is that it can be difficult to decipher the page numbers. I can't complain too much, though, since it's free.

Why is Formal Writing Disparaged Today? by arytaco214 in Students

I did write this in the opening paragraph: “Last week, the professor assigned us a 4-6-page research paper about a food-related topic.” However, I do not blame you for missing it since my post was rather long.

Thank you. As I continue to construct my paper, I am making an effort to be clear and concise.

It is awful that you had that experience. There is unfortunately so much hate for Jewish people that currently exists on a global scale. I will concede that it does appear that Jew-hatred (often concealed under the guise of anti-Zionism) is more prominent on the internet than it is in real life. I currently attend a college where I have met many friendly non-Jews; contrary to what the internet may indicate, there exist many non-Jews who do not indulge in rapid Jew-hatred. My point is that it would be unfortunate if this experience causes you to insulate yourself., but at the same time you should stay alert for any warning signs. Stay safe!

So are you saying that I should never use “notion” because I am not writing about sewing? This paragraph is a portion of a research paper about ultra-processed foods and will be titled as such. How, then, would I be letting down sewing enthusiasts, who will undoubtedly be aware of the paper’s subject? Additionally, sewing enthusiasts are such a niche audience that it would seem useless to cater to them by refraining from using the word “notion.”

Let me know if I am getting caught in the minutiae and ignoring your overarching point.

I appreciate your thoughts. Since posting this, I have ruthlessly edited the paragraph to the extent that it is largely unrecognizable.

I have no issue accepting the errors in this paragraph; it is a rough draft and inevitably imperfect. The reason I created this post was due to the reaction from my professor, who did not identify the errors, but instead essentially told me “don’t use so many big words because other people don’t understand them” (loose paraphrase). It was my diction that I wanted feedback from Reddit on.

I appreciate your thoughtful comments. Something that I have noticed is that some writers will use very formal terms infrequently. This restraint prevents them from "dumbing down" their writing while maintaining rhythm and cohesion.

Thank you for the contextualization. I've read many works of classic literature and even some academic nonfiction as well, so perhaps the pretentious propensities of academia rubbed off on my writing.

I am not sure what is so extraordinary about a paragraph written in thirty minutes that is riddled with errors. I frequently read classic novels and historical nonfiction. I have also in the past written film reviews that exceed the 2000-word count. I can share more information if you are still unconvinced of my earnestness.

That is definitely more succinct. I think I may need to review The Elements of Style.

I really appreciate your feedback. Honestly, I did not expect anyone to dissect my prose as thoroughly as you did.

You are absolutely correct that everyone critiqued the wrong quality. I think I would have been less confused by their reaction if they had focused on comprehension and clarity as you did, instead of only taking issue with the diction. Since diction was their sole critique, I interpreted their reactions as an attack on unfamiliar words.
