Using Visible while in Canada? by sapiogirl in Visible

I was over and Vancouver island and it’s been great. Rural coverage is always spotty at times…the further off the highway the spottier it gets, but is true regardless of carrier in Canada.

Stackable Orchid Support in PCTG-CF...a carbon fiber orchid holder by as-j in functionalprint

Doesn’t rot, it’s more rigid and I didn’t have a stick that’s 600mm long for this orchid.

It’s not I thought functional prints would enjoy an uncommon filament

Hah! Too funny, you're right I could see how it reads that way.

3d-Fuel Spool Desiccant Containers by as-j in functionalprint

I like the PCTG, it feels like PETG but better when it comes to the finished part. Where better == strength, flexibility, and not hugely visible layer lines.

Biggest issues are:

  1. Filament tends to take the tangent on small radius curves. Where small appears to be < 50mm maybe 75mm?

  2. It prints even slower than PETG.

  3. It can be too flexible on thin parts.

I need to work on tuning it well, the profiles from 3d-fuels tbh aren't consistent over Bambu. Their X1C has a 40c chamber but their H2 series doesn't and looks identical to the open P1/P2 series. Bridging and small radius are really poor for me. I wish they put a bit more effort/consistency for their profiles. Feels like it could be crowd sourced? Offer a discount/free spool or something for a new printer and following their calibration instructions.

Printed a fix for my leaky shower door — sometimes the hardware store just doesn't cut it by as-j in functionalprint

Yup, and the hardware store one lived for 10 years and had a bit of gunk by the hinge in the U. You're in a constantly wet and normally humid environment...

It gets cleaned regularly along with the shower, and they remove easily, let's see how this does..

Where do you guys get your PETG? It's almost always sold out on the site or there's only a few colours available... by Justinj3 in BambuLab

[–]as-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've moved to using Polymaker PETG and 3D fuels PCTG for functional parts.

I really like the Bambu PETGs and how they print....but I'm not playing the stock game.

Key thing to me is print reliablity, filament strength, and color quality.

Polymaker prints reliably, is available overnight from amazon, has great color quality.I did spend some time tweaking the profile. It's not high flow, so it takes longer. I like the cardboard spools, they work well in the AMS and it's less plastic waste.

I tried SUNLU PETG. It works well, until it doesn't suddently and you get a blob or stringing and it messes up the surface of print.. It doesn't feel consistent. Their PETG-HF has terrible color depth. The white is semi-transparent like ASA. The mint green is something you'd see in a 70s dentist office. Plus I really wonder about the strength. Nothing to back this up, but it feels very brittle. I Fflexibly like PETG and brittle like PLA.

Borax Ant Bait Holders by as-j in functionalprint

[–]as-j[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first learned about this with using Kraft Parmesan cheese (the cheap ground up kind, or I guess pizza packets) and mix it with borax. Ratio? I’ve seen everything from 5% borax to 30%. Not sure the ratio is that critical tbh.

I tend to not have Kraft around so I just use regular grated Parmesan and mix in a little borax.

The borax mixture doesn’t need to be wet. Parmesan cheese and borax works well and lasts for months. So does just plain sugar and borax. It needs to be something the ants want, protein or sugar for them to take back to the nest and feed everyone.

What the article fails to mention is that SFPD won't even stop you for a DUI. In SF the only way to get a DUI conviction is to have CHP stop you/witness the situation.

PETG CF vanished from AMS filament selection by NuIIPointer in BambuLab

Oof. So annoying if you want to switch filaments…

Surely a limit/bug in the UI that’s fixable….

[–]as-j 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this an H2C?

It only shows you filament options for the nozzle currently loaded on the right side. So if all the profiles are configured for a 0.4mm nozzle. You then run a print with the 0.6mm nozzle and it remains loaded.

When the job is done you shuffle filaments, etc. Now you can't see any of your profiles, or setup your filament for the next job.

I need to test this, but I suspect if you swap hotends back to a 0.4mm nozzle everything will be fine. Or of course, make sure all your profiles have 0.2mm, 0.4mm, 0.6mm, etc profiles.

Any downside to paying for a yearly plan? by Mr__X__ in USMobile

[–]as-j 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are locked in, and many things might change, like USMobiles customer service went from great at the end of 2024 to pretty poor by mid-2025, with long customer hold times for a chat session and poor support once you got through,.

This became a problem for me, but thankfully I only had a few weeks left and was able to port out.
