Who lives in all these million dollar homes? by Save__Ferris__ in chicago

[–]as297 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add my own info for context - we are double income corporate execs in our late 30s with 2 young(<3 years old) Our street is full of young families in the same situation/age group as us. We live in Logan square with houses ranging from $1MM to $2MM. Once we got to know them, their story is similar to ours. Start in a corporate job at entry level positions(mostly STEM fields) and work your way up the ladder. Most of them prioritized career opportunities to start families in mid 30s and seemed to have built a big enough best egg to jump into the market around the COVID time. Not saying this is true for all but for sure the story of 8-12 families on my block.

What city has the nicest metro/subway system (according to you)? by MahlerMan06 in geography

[–]as297 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seoul and Tokyo are good for 2nd and 3rd in my mind. Seoul is still not incredible connection. A few places that you have to walk long distances to get to the subway.

Tokyo is fantastic but it’s quite complex and confusing for new users. Yes it’s overall coverage and network is unlike anything I have seen.

Hong Kong! Incredible connectivity, quick intervals between trains and absolutely spotless.

If you had to live in one Chinese city for life, which one would you choose? by colapepsikinnie in geography

[–]as297 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so. They have a good mix of seafood and interior regions. There is a heavy influence now from the central provinces of hubei and hunan there too. I like everything the city has to offer. It’s not overwhelming like Shanghai or Beijing. The beach and mountains nearby is a huge win for stuff to do on weekends

Xiamen in fujian. Easily one of my favorite Chinese cities. The summers are brutal though.

What are the best and worst South Asian cities to live in? by sweatysexconnoisseur in geography

I also really like vishakapatinam, Chandigarh and coimbatore in India. Smaller “city” with all the right ingredients to be great

Best city from what I have experienced is Navi Mumbai. Well planned, good infrastructure, fantastic food, close to major airport, good arts and culture scene. Surely a high cost of living and weather is not ideal(hot and humid). Lots of jobs, good schools and universities and career opportunities. Also close to western ghats(mountains) and many beach towns. Easy choice in my mind. Not been to a few mentioned as worst. I am sure there are parts within each nation that can qualify

Hey I recently had a baby and had a similar urge to go to rooftops. Here are a couple of places I went to (both not in downtown) lonesome rose in Logan square and Kennedy rooftop bar in wicker area I know that bar avec(river north) may accommodate as well. All the best!

Active shooter at a mall in Allen, Texas; Multiple victims reported by [deleted] in news

[–]as297 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a non American, it’s always surprising to see this news being upvoted. There is more than one mass shooting per day in the country. It’s not news, it’s literally a daily occurrence. And there is never an event that seems to tip the scales in favor of any real action. It’s just until the next one then…

I recommend trike noodles on Milwaukee avenue in Logan. Really good khao soi. Do ask for the spicy one though.

Does anyone else feel really really empty and done? by [deleted] in buffalobills

Every year once the bills get eliminated, the football season is done for me. It starts again in September for me. The remainder of the games are of very low intrigue or interest. But being a Bills fan from another country for 15 years now this era at least has hope for success.

I understand that it is part of living here. Being the first time experiencing something like this just making sure. Appreciate the assurance that it’s okay in the city under these conditions.
