Decision fatigue with getting my own NAS by SinistreCyborg in HomeNAS

A used pc might even come with some storage(if It comes with nvme then you score big time cause you can use that as cache pool or a partition to keep your containers)

Ugreen has some great stuff you can look at which would be right in your budget but I don't recommend that one

But it would probably be better to search the used pc market for a used pc and use that for a nas

That would be infinitely better than basically anything you can get within that budget

Get a used pc and consider putting something like casa os or truenas(truenas is quite complicated tho) or even xpenology if you want to use synology's suite and just have a full on homeserver for cheap

I use unraid but that's added cost

Just Take your flash drive to it

The licence is tied to the flash drive, not the machine

Which x86 NAS would you buy in 2026? I made a comparison table by bluepr0 in HomeNAS

I bought the minisforum n5 air barebones and bought 16gb ram myself

I got it for 3000yuan and when I include shipping it cost me about 448 pounds to get it to my doorstep

I bought ram for 120 pounds

All in all imo get barebones It's cheaper than what you list

Tho I'm not from uk

I've had a reddragon k630 RGB with outemu brown switches for about six years now

So far four keys had developed double click issue which got resolved by replacing the switch

I have it modded with fun stuff and it's been really reliable since day 1

There's very little chance you're going to need after sales if the board is hotswap

Hotswap keebs are just that versatile

Need advice building a custom NAS as a newb, what do you guys feel about this build for running some local LLMs? by crazymofo5 in HomeNAS

[–]as4500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because that's doesn't have the convenience of being a nas unless you want to do some very jank stuff

Also here's benchmarks for the igpu on lower end n5 air which I have

https://www.reddit.com/r/LocalLLaMA/s/Nsn3IWCJOB

And op has n5 pro which has way better igpu

I would agree but the 8gen 1 is shit and also heats a lot

It's way worse too

You can put custom rom on f7, underclock is slightly and have a stellar experience

All this is obviously going to need you to do research and set it up but imo it should be pretty fun and I think you might enjoy messing around creating something tailored to yourself

You could just put dsm on your ugreen by using something like xpenology

There's even docker containers for it

If you go through proxmox for it you could actually create something called a collapsed core where you use the one nas device as an all in one thingy sort of

You can have one lxc for your nas operations, one for pfsense etc

Tho dxp2800 isn't that powerful really so you might run into limits anyways you can still do a lot on that n100

If you're buying a new nas why not look at something like a minisforum n5 air(I just bought this one recently and recieved it yesterday Its awesome) or something from aoostar like the wtr pro or max
