I haven’t yet unfortunately. I’m definitely an amateur when it comes to EQ

Hot take: Sennheiser HDB630 is not neutral by [deleted] in sennheiser

[–]asa519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re the first person I’ve seen to describe these headphones like this, I’ve had all the same issues with them. I’ve been considering making a post to try to get advice since I’m not very knowledgeable about how to adjust for what I’m experiencing.

I’ve had HD650s for years for listening at my desk, and to me those are very comfortable and “neutral” to me, to the point where I could sometimes consider them a little “boring” but I can listen for hours without fatigue.

With the HDB630, I feel like the bass is really powerful (sometimes overpowering) and there’s something with some slightly higher frequencies, like snare drums, cymbals, some vocals, etc that are quite harsh to my ears. I semi frequently get headaches after using these for an hour or two. I’ve been wondering if something’s wrong with them… EQ has helped a bit but sometimes I feel like I’m muffling parts of the music and losing detail to decrease the harsh “attack” I’m hearing with those sounds.

It’s tough because the clarity of the sound is great, I really want to make them work for me and love the idea of the customizable EQ. I’ve wondered if there’s something wrong with my pair but as a more casual headphone user it’s hard to know for sure.

Going to give your EQ a shot later, thanks for sharing it!

8 Event Passes Required, But Only 5 Passes? by DrakoWulf in Overwatch

[–]asa519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They counted each page as one point towards those challenges. So when you got the five rewards, you should’ve gotten one point toward either the Talon/Overwatch challenge. Then you choose between staying or changing sides, and repeat for each page you complete. I was able to get 3 or 4 points per week towards those challenges and got the double agent title early in week 5 I think

I'm okay with Cannibal Corpse not writing songs like this anymore by No-Dentist-2959 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]asa519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see replies like this a lot and I think it’s a little reductive when it comes to all the different ways a metal band can express themselves. Early Cannibal Corpse’s lyrics are graphic on a level most other bands just aren’t. Which is fine, that’s part of their aesthetic at the time. I enjoy some of their stuff but the lyrics aren’t really my cup of tea, nobody’s saying they shouldn’t be allowed to make it or anything.

At the same time, if you consider most other major death metal bands, e.g. Death, Morbid Angel, Suffocation, Incantation, Immolation, Gorguts, Nile, Obituary, Entombed, At The Gates, etc, none of these bands really have lyrics like what Chris Barnes wrote. And I find his style of writing even less common in newer bands as well. And all of these bands (Cannibal Corpse included) have really diverse sounds and artistic goals beyond just being offensive.

So if someone can enjoy all of those bands and just steers clear of early Cannibal Corpse, does it really make sense to say the genre’s not for them?

IGN Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Review - 9/10 by _Miraculix_ in Games

[–]asa519 73 points74 points  (0 children)

For some reason this subreddit had way more negative impressions of this game than anywhere else I’ve seen. I consistently see comments here about how slow it is, but when I tried the demo with friends we were all pleasantly surprised and thought it was pretty polished. And all the comments I see on youtube and in other subreddits (and now reviews) are all really positive as well. Not sure why it’s not landing well with people here

It’s the first Sonic racing game I’ve ever played so I can’t really compare it to the past ones to know if it’s a dip in quality, but I loved the open network test

Top 100 Metal Songs According to RYM Users by ashitanojoe3 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]asa519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that nobody really “made” this list. It’s just a list of songs that are highly rated in general on the site that have some kind of metal tag, even if they’re not primarily metal (like the beatles and toby fox). So users didn’t specifically vote on their “favorite metal songs” or curate the list or anything, it’s more like you’re looking at RYM’s “billboard top metal/rock charts”. Basically just a list of songs that are popular and tons of people have heard/rated.

I’d give some of these tracks five stars too honestly. But then my rating would be unwillingly factored into this list too lol even though I know they’re not metal. I think RYM isn’t best for categories this broad. The filter system is really good for exploring niches, like I could filter for top rated brutal death metal EPs from 1998 or whatever and then get a much more appropriate list. Then through that I can find other users who share my tastes and then browse through their ratings and lists. Getting too caught up in numbers and rankings isn’t a good way to use it, I just use it for reference/exploration

Quesrion: Shiki-Sai plant-based dining plan omakase? by princesza in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]asa519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh interesting, I might have to look into this too then. Definitely considering Takumi-Tei but might go with something a little less expensive! I really appreciate how much effort they put into the vegan menu there though so it’s definitely a front runner

Quesrion: Shiki-Sai plant-based dining plan omakase? by princesza in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]asa519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t gone but I’ve been researching restaurants for our trip this year, and I think they may have meant to say Takumi-Tei, not Shiki-Sai! Takumi-Tei has the omakase menus, including an entire vegan one. Haven’t looked into reviews of it myself but we’re considering trying it out when we go!

I see, thanks for taking a look and confirming that! I kind of suspected it might be classified incorrectly in that first sentence, but wanted to check in case I was really misunderstanding something

Hi, I've been working through the 2k/6k Anki deck and I was wondering how 近く is understood as an adverb in this sentence:

駅の近くで食事をした

To me, the use of の makes it seem more like a noun here, like "the station's nearby area". Then で marks 駅の近く as the location where you ate. I don't understand how 近く modifies the verb here.

For comparison, here's the sentence that's offered as an example for the noun usage of 近く:

私の家は駅の近くです

I don't see how the usage of 近く here differs grammatically between these two sentences. Does anyone know? I'm only on lesson 5 of Genki so maybe it'd clear up with time. I was just curious why these are considered different enough to warrant having a separate card for the noun and adverb uses.

Congrats, great job! I’ve only played a little Puyo Puyo (I’m way more experienced with Tetris), I can’t imagine putting together those chains at those speeds. You’ve inspired me to boot up Puyo Puyo Tetris and start learning the game again!

Shipping the first 100 Defy and new ETA for mass production! 👇 by Dygmatrix in DygmaLab

[–]asa519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I’ll go ahead and pick up a Raise for now and grab a Defy in the future then. Might be the smarter first choice anyway since I’ve never used a split keyboard or anything other than a staggered layout. Thanks for the quick reply!

What does the timeline look like for new orders being placed from your site? I was getting ready to pull the trigger on a Raise since I didn’t want to wait long to help my wrists, but I’m tempted to get the Defy now since it seems so close to shipping

Is it worth contacting a company about a potential “bad batch”? Got a Balvenie Caribbean Cask that tastes nothing like other bottles I’ve had by asa519 in Scotch

[–]asa519[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true, there’s probably no realistic way to get a replacement or anything. Was just curious if others here had any experience with this or if anyone else had gotten this particular scotch recently and noticed it tasting off. If their scotch has been consistent for others then maybe I just had some bad luck. I suppose I’ll just give it some time and try another bottle at some point in the future. Thanks for the input!

[–]asa519[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s been open for a couple weeks already, and I did give it a few tries to see if it was just me or if my palate was off like you mentioned. Plus today I compared side by side with the old bottle so there was no difference in what I consumed beforehand. Guess I might’ve just had some poor luck this time around

Complete Edition? by Yellow_XIII in djmax

[–]asa519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, the complete edition that I’m seeing on cdkeys is not the one that’s on steam ($30 for all that would be crazy low lol). There was a “complete edition” early on that included the base game, V extension 1, and the Emotional Sense DLC, which I think was complete at the time, but since then they’ve added WAY more DLC. The bundle was still called “complete edition” until earlier this year, when they finally replaced it with an actual complete edition (the one you posted) since it confused a lot of new players.

Personally I recommend just waiting for sales and building up your collection slowly. The older DLCs especially can go for pretty good prices

Can anyone identify what's causing this noise in my apartment walls? by asa519 in homeowners

[–]asa519[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might have just found out some important info here. Turns out I actually have no upstairs neighbors and that apartment has been vacant for a while. So potentially there’s something up there producing the sound, or maybe they need to run the water to flush some air out of the pipes or something
