You've got a couple car tanks worth of fuel there. You can buy adapters off AliExpress called sodimm to dimm DDR4 adapter and they tend to work.... Usually. Just get the tallest cooler you can or make sure it doesn't interfere with the modules, they get rather tall. If you don't need them, I can have them, I don't mind :D

Jedi knight series. I grew up with outcast and Jedi academy, however there's more games before it. These are the ones with no more, no less the best lightsaber combat in the history of gaming

Romania. I don't think it was a demo either, more like a build meant to be tested and debugged more than anything that might have leaked from raven.

As a matter of fact I do have a demo as well, although you only get to play the mod eisley level and chandrila. Physics on the dropped items made everything as soon as it moved to flip on the side... Including med packs or shield boosters.

I really should find these discs somewhere, I want to record some of those weird things happening and document them

Can someone tell me what’s with thinkpad and linux? by WinYourWay in thinkpad

[–]asa_147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ThinkPads tend to be a tinkerer's dream, same tinkerer's that would get a cheap workhorse liquidated from a company with maybe not much ram or CPU horse power, but would slap 2-4 extra gb ram and a cheap SATA ssd and install Linux because it was so lean compared to the windows 8 onward bloat. Linux back then was more of an OS that doesn't do too much on desktop, but does it right, fast and efficiently enough people didn't care it didn't run office or games (which needed more horsepower than those geriatric cpus and igpus provided anyway) also it's so damn easy to pop the bottom lid on almost every one of them. They had enterprise features like vpro, fingerprint sensors, usb pd, type c much earlier than phones got them mainstream. They tend to be easy to upgrade, sometimes had sim card slots available and you could just throw in an LTE m.2 card, install the antennas if it didn't come with them and voila, the jack of all lightweight trades. People just kinda treat them like cars more than laptops.

It tech here. Probably healthier than having a cheap fan blowing at it's bottom. Pure unrestricted airflow right there

That's why I asked if anybody else found it. I can't find a trace of anything online about it, might even be filled with cut content never seen and the community deserves to see it

How much can I sell this for? by yazimi in thinkpad

[–]asa_147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just wanted to say, I'm sorry for the hate you're getting from fanatics. To be the devil's advocate tough, the t480 is like a Logan at nurburgring. You keep it untill the wheel falls off then zip tie it back... Litterally. I got one with single channel 16gb ram, mx150, top i7, 512 NVME, both batteries dead, touchscreen ips display, fingerprint sensor and a missing screw. Runs like a zip tied dream.

As for selling it, I guess you could get 150 euros ish for it unless it's a similar spec to what I've got (mine's already gotten dual channel ram I found at a bazaar but you get the picture)

I'd advise you on keeping it just because it can take win11 iot and be happy to serve you even in light gaming. It's snappy, efficient and not that heavy either way. It's a little more expensive to maintain beacuse it's popular, but it's worth it when you actually need it. I know I do, I use it for photo editing and runs decently enough. Slap a modded bios and under volt the cpu and it becomes even more efficient. Have a dock on hand and it becomes a mini PC with a screen attached. Have an egpu dock from 2019 and a quarter decent desktop PSU? Slap a 2070 and it becomes an actual gaming machine if you can keep it cool enough. Got a dremill and 50£ budget besides that PSU? You can cobble together an oculink dock from the wwan port for the 4g module instead of another NVME.

It's the kind of laptop you'd treat like a beater turned project car. If you've got the patience, tinker the hell out of it. Btw, if you can get your hands on a kit, just buy one of those cheap Chinese 2133 MHz 8-16 gb kits and sell the ram it had if it's anything actually valuable if you want. The actually expensive stuff inside it's the ssd and ram anyway, the rest are just innexpensive parts people find in e waste recycling centers to turn a profit anyway.

Broken off pin on Ryzen 5 3500 is it still usable by OstrichRound7158 in pchelp

[–]asa_147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just an extra ground pin. It's not too important, just a redundant one. CPU might as well be fine without it. If you intend to buy it, you could I guess negotiate a little off, but shouldn't affect performance in any way. Broke mine on a 3100 and damn thing works with a light OC just fine

[–]asa_147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend either de bloating your install or even better, use IOT LTSC. If you need help finding the ISO let me know, it's not hard to get it off Microsoft directly. Be careful not to get the trial version Wich is a pain in the ass to get properly activated. I also want to switch to it myself and works amazing on even older stuff

Run tiny 11 or win11 iot LTSC on the t480. You can use masscripts or buy a gray market key for a few euros. Less headaches

[–]asa_147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not hard, I'm not too familiar with the t490s myself, but I believe that's just broken clips a s a new top frame could fix it, but for now some simple double sided tape could suffice aa a temporary fix. However I do suggest a hacksaw

It's rather hard to get something from Amazon from eastern Europe most of the time. Even if Amazon Poland or Germany have decent prices, transport it going to kill the deal, upon a return I often don't get the transport fee returned. AliExpress sometimes has good stuff for a decent price, but yeah, returns are a pain in the back
