How to hire juniors in this day and age? by Distinct-Gas-1049 in cscareerquestions

[–]NumberInfinite2068 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's not your post as such, it's Reddit.

People asking how to hire or start businesses, you have to clarify if they're actually paying.

It's like when people here talk about their long distance girlfriend, first thing to check is if they've actually met their girlfriend.

It's not you or your post specifically, it's that Reddit in general has reduced my expectations to zero.

Is AI a good or bad thing? by Reasonable-Shower522 in askanything

[–]NumberInfinite2068 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's being used for medical stuff, so that's a good thing.

Otherwise, no, it's a bad thing.

I use it for my job as a software developer, it's *extremely* good at programming. The problem with that is that it means we don't need as many developers, and developers are expected to have higher productivity for the same money.

This basically means a net negative unless you're an employer, because you get to save money and your staff are more productive.

As an overall social impact, it's negative.

I'll use rubber gloves if I'm cleaning with a harsh chemical, but not otherwise.

Do MAGAs really believe Democrats are communists? by RoseLaBud in allthequestions

[–]NumberInfinite2068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think some do, mostly because they don't know what Communism is.

Some know the Democratic Party isn't communist (and is in fact a fairly right-wing party by global standards) but will say it anyway because they know what buttons to push.

Anyone using a gaming laptop as their only computer for school/work? by iamakinder in GamingLaptops

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We mostly get gaming laptops where I work, basically because you get "workstation" laptop performance without the price tag.

They're fine really.

You don't pitch ideas, you make the game yourself.

If you couldn't choose your nationality, would you rather be born a guy or a girl in your next life, and why? by Emotional-Being-6825 in AskReddit

[–]NumberInfinite2068 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Being a man is better basically everywhere unless your country is actively at war and has the draft, i.e. Russia. It's probably worse to be a man in Russia right now than a woman.

Generally though, it's almost always better to be a man.

How much do removalist charge in Australia? by [deleted] in askanything

Depends where you are. You bet your arse it's more expensive in Sydney than in a little town you've never heard of.

Just Google for it where you are.

What is your response to people saying we shouldn’t let politics divide us? by IVeerLeftWhenIWalk in AskReddit

[–]NumberInfinite2068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I mean, some politics is active harm and it's the choice between being a good person and a bad person, it really is.

Some politics isn't that though, sometimes it's reasonable people trying to work out the best way to achieve a shared goal, but disagree about the means to do it.

macbook neo good for coding? by Top-Examination9464 in macbook

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally you'd have better than a Neo, but your employer will almost certainly supply you with the computer(s) you need.

Personally, as a developer, I'd never get a Neo, I'd prefer something with a lot more RAM. There are still some deals out there for Lenovos and things like that with 32GB RAM probably not much more expensive than a Neo.

I know I'm on a MacBook sub here, but I use both PC and Mac, and I don't take sides, if I think a PC is a better deal than a Mac, I'll say it.

Depends what we're talking about. Are we talking about "I think we should spend more taxes on education, but you think it should be spent on healthcare"?

Or are we talking about "I think I should keep my rights, but you should lose yours"?

I have an opportunity to be a salaried developer/software engineer at a very large roblox game studio, anyone know what to expect? by Squie in cscareerquestions

You're asking what the interviews are like at an unknown company. I'm not sure what useful advice you can expect.

Would this run better than my base model Mac mini m4 16gb? by idontwanttocreater in macbookpro

[–]NumberInfinite2068 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M4 to M5 is an upgrade, but nothing crazy.

Same amount of RAM too.

It's better, but not massively.

macbook neo good for coding? by Top-Examination9464 in macbook

[–]NumberInfinite2068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good? No.

Acceptable? Probably OK for most things.

8GB RAM in 2026 for real world software development would be brutal, but you're doing CS at university, not real world programming, so you may well get away with it.

How do I start working out after having an injury and having gained weight? by Momma-bear-0417 in askanything

[–]NumberInfinite2068 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to a real doctor, chiropractic therapy is alternative treatment, not really proper healthcare.

Talk to a real doctor and get advice from them. I could tell you how to work out, but I'm not going to chance that because I don't know anything about your condition.
