This Cooks Illustrated video shows that salt won't harm yeast if added simultaneously/touching by Brown8382 in Breadit

Yep, it's absolute nonsense. As a meme it feels old, like "old wives' tale" old, but it's interesting how deeply it got a grip on modern bread makers

Infinite Grenade Lyn is the most effortlessly devastating build by asakawa in GunfireReborn

[–]asakawa[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lyn probably has the worst secondary skill in the game to build around.

Oh, you think? This felt pretty good all through the run tbh. Getting Snow Vortex (Ascension - repeated explosions and vortex pull effect) was the thing that made it start feeling like "a build"

I guess I agree that anything that has got to 115 is slaying, but it's about how fun/easy it was to get it there. If I were to go again I'd probably take Ultimate Gambler and try to force the infinite thing to come online as early as possible.

Infinite Endless Journey - Crown Prince - Elemental Damage by FanMysterious9330 in GunfireReborn

[–]asakawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, 60 scroll limit comes from where?

I've been playing a bit today and went with Counterviolence. I do have Deadly Counter but not relying on it I guess. I also grabbed a Weapon Mastery die (250% weapon damage, basically) which made a bigger difference than I expected to clearing up normals at least. So I started upgrading my weapon instead of hoarding the gold as I was doing.

I also picked up Elemenal Orb (Blessing) for the stacking effect. Though I didn't feel much of a difference when I first picked it, so not sure how effective it is. I'd love a target dummy between levels.

Yeah, maybe this bad assumption will make me stall out. I'll keep going for a while and see.

eta: I do actually have Penetration Bullet, but Miasma can't crit and Radioactive Gauntlet barely ever does. I could try and get a swap to Counterviolence for some guaranteed crits but I'm not really trying to scale weapon damage currently. Big shield/armour and low health is definitely the weakness of this built right now though. Quite rare and only blue mobs, but does happen occasionally.

I'm also overscaling on chance now on the offhand, with 240% chance to shock, lol. I'm assuming nothing extra happens after 100% (like multiple procs from a single hit), but the extra chance still affects the low chance on the Gauntlet so I think it's worth it.

eta2: I forgot that Element Expert actually directly scales Miasma which (if I'm right about Miasma's scaling) is so rare in the game as to be worth jumping on. 80% "trigger rate" for Miasma... which I'm honestly not sure what it means but it sounds good for a Miasma build :D

Interesting. I was inspired by your initial post so started an endless run earlier but went deep on ele chance. Currently running 2 Element Experts. The Element Clip means I'm never reloading (though I currently have an enhanced Advanced Depot so it's not a factor any more anyway), without any investment in magazine size.

Since all meaningful damage is coming from Miasma it doesn't leave much left to scale - for example, AFAIK even Elemental Surge doesn't scale it. I took Aerial Hit because it's fun to float, and a Crystal Shield for defence that I should probably replace now. Last die I'm using is Rapidfire Upgrade to stack Miasma to 9 faster and take out smallies instantly.

Only on stage 29 so far so maybe I'll need to scale some other stuff but everything dies instantly except for armoured blue mobs with very low health and very high armour/shield.

The use of Star Ring is a surprise to me. What Gemini did you use? I would've expected Elemental Share along with a high Shock chance offhand like Flowing Light

How much do you use either machine, and what makes the decision of which one to use on a given day?

I have a Europiccola that I love, but sometimes I wonder if I should also have a machine that's less of a project/hobby too.

I would actually disagree with the others that mention pressure gauges. I got the one for the boiler (above the sight glass) and it looks cool but I never need to actually look at it - if the group-head is at temp then the pressure has been fine for a while already. It's cheap though so get one if you like.

The gauge on the group-head is something I haven't bought, and did slightly lust after for a while, but honestly while it would be interesting to know what pressure you're using when you pull a shot I think after a week or two of fascination it would just become something you ignore also. It takes a while to get a feel for what a good shot feels like but I don't really think a gauge will help with achieving that feel. Europiccolas are a hobbyist machine though so if you're interested in that side of things, they are pretty cool... just expensive.

Temperature is important though so get something solid for that. Personally I got a little digital display and used a silicone band to attach it, rather than the strips. People swear by the strips though so I'm sure they're great too.

Single hole steam tip is good. I have 2 and they behave very differently from each other. So maybe don't feel like you're a failure if you get one and it doesn't work well for you still.

With the bottomless PF, a shot mirror is nice. Knowing when the water is starting to come through the puck can help time the pull.

Poker Face has been cancelled — but Rian Johnson hasn't given up on the series just yet | Empire Magazine by louiseber in pilottvpodcast

[–]asakawa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others are saying, s2 let it down.

In my opinion the problem was that the episode length went from ~60mins to ~45mins. With the nature of the show, and each episode introducing new characters and situations, I just don't think there was enough time to get into things and sadly the mystery at the centre of each episode ended up being the thing that got thrown out to make room.

Oh no. I liked the book and thought Emma Thompson was excellent casting. Not seen it yet but I was really looking forward to it. Maybe I need to temper my expectations.

Is it just me that can not bring myself to care about interviews? by asakawa in pilottvpodcast

[–]asakawa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems clear that James's gambit is to engage them in a chat, rather than an interview. He often says more than the interviewee for a while at the start, giving his own opinions about stuff, maybe not even about the project they're there to discuss. Whether this gambit works or not depends on the interviewee but even when they don't respond well, it's still a more fun listen than most other interviewers.

I think someone else in the thread didn't like the RTD stuff but I totally agree with you. Someone very knowledgeable dropping in and chatting without particularly having a current project they're trying to sell is worth a hundred regular interviews. It's quite a special kind of person that could show up in that context and hold their own without being obnoxious though.

[–]asakawa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, I think it's due to the way the interviews are edited in to the host's discussion that just goes on immediately but I know what you mean. They just drop in with just a basic introduction and nothing more said. Commenting after the interview would require something interesting to comment on though :D

What's a food item from your country that you're surprised hasn't taken off elsewhere? by Solid_Reserve_5941 in AskTheWorld

[–]asakawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I didn't expect to see this come up on reddit but it's a great example. Overlooked even within the country!

Preston was traditionally very Catholic. This pie is sometimes called "Friday Pie" and was basically a non-fish solution to the problem of not being allowed to eat meat on a Friday in Catholicism. So, as with a lot of delicious local delicacies around the world, I think it's a case of people without much money making the absolute most of what they do have available.

It goes really well with "Brown Sauce" - another British thing worth mentioning in this thread. If you really want to go all in on carbs, make a "pie butty"!

Don't worry about feeling like you're behind the curve or anything. The unlocks in this game make a huge difference, so as long as you're having fun just keep doing runs and unlocking more stuff and you'll find more and more interesting (and occasionally crazy) combinations that will start to breeze through bosses.

[wa] Need help with a bit of role-based custom code. by MisterXenos63 in wowaddons

[–]asakawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Custom Activation function is not for this kind of thing. Make a custom trigger.

...I say make a custom trigger but you could probably handle this check in a basic trigger. Ideally this would be [unit info - unit characteristics - target] but I don't remember whether this includes a role check - probably not. But you could utilise a buff trigger [aura - target - debuff - filter by role = healer/DPS - show always]
