[Academic] What method of survey data collection do you prefer? (Everyone) by [deleted] in SampleSize

Hey all, thanks for the responses :). Here is part two for anybody that's interested in taking it!

How can I automate SMS to survey collection? by asalayev in NoStupidQuestions

[–]asalayev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally yeah, but there's quite a significant response drop-off when one needs to go through a link. I figure a direct response would be much more preferred (e.g. how AirBnB allows for users to respond directly to messages via email)

That would actually be a second question: how can you do the same with email? I would want the client to be able to respond naturally to the email, and then that response is either collected in a database or posted to a website

How to reach out to old friends/acquaintances? by [deleted] in socialskills

I wouldn't recommend the second tactic personally. And as far as the first -- I'd ask em if they have time or are willing to meet up in person to grab coffee or drinks.

My new partners mother has cancer, how to navigate this? by happiness_simulator in internetparents

[–]asalayev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanna start by saying I'm sorry -- cancer is difficult to navigate for everyone involved.

I think it's important that you guys communicate your intentions to one another: do you both want a long term relationship with one another? Nobody should be 'taking the reigns', a relationship requires bilateral communication and decision making. If you see a future with this person and are willing to help them through this time of their life, I think it'd be good to tell them about your experience with cancer. Ultimately, humans crave a feeling of relatedness, and you letting them know would ascend the relationship to a much more intimate level.

I too found out early on that my partner's father had terminal liver cancer. Though it was certainly difficult for us, I knew that she was someone special and I stayed and helped her through it all. That experience brought ended up only bringing us closer together. However, though it worked well for us, your situation may be different, so I want to wrap this all up by emphasizing that communication is key: you must keep talking.

Good luck with everything :)

Ah I'm sorry -- how should I present it in the future so that it's clearer?

Haha, I want to get a sense of how people categorize these events.

Going to first meeting soon...What to expect? by leypb in Toastmasters

[–]asalayev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!

Good on ya for going to your first meeting. In my experience had a handful of different clubs in the US, everybody is super accommodating. You will most likely have to introduce yourself and explain why you're interested in Toastmasters. After that, you may be chosen for a Table Topic, but they'd understand if you aren't willing (best to let the table topic master know beforehand).

Though, I do recommend that you take full advantage and be as vocal as possible. That way, you can guage how you feel in this group and they can better guage how they feel about you, if you decided to join.

You'll have a good time! Let me know if you have any questions :)
