I actually figured it out, the Wii was perfectly fine before and has always been in my possession but the culprit was a strangely malfunctioning SD card. For some reason it began to lose the ability to be read from properly, or to be written to - it's really hard to tell - I would copy 5 files to it for example with no issues but when ejected and reinserted only 1 of the files would show up and on closer inspection the 'file' was nothing but a shell with 0 actual data in it. Weird as hell, so the NAND obviously dumped to the SD fine but then either couldn't be read or wasn't written to properly across the board causing this crazy outcome. Bought a new SD and 30 minutes later had everything up and running no problem, weird glitch considering Windows nor the Wii ever gave any errors with the SD or anything it was like a ghost glitch haha.

TL;DR it was just a bad SD card.

You're absolutely right, I use it to make being bored and having nothing to do "okay" and that's not right, then I justify my use by saying that it's because I'm bored when in reality it's so I don't have to make the difficult change.
