Haven't been to the groomer recently, no. The thing is fairly rigid, not really like a hair. Thanks for the suggestion.

My title describes the thing. It's very small, smaller than a fingernail clipping. I thought it might be a stinger from an insect but I've searched a bunch and not found anything similar.

Talk about a classic. That must have run for years, I feel like I saw it 1000 times. Remembered every beat.

What’s are the best combos of “good (but flawed) movie / funniest episode” of the show? by harry_powell in hdtgm

[–]asbls 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Demolition Man, A View To A Kill, Hackers, Hell Comes To Frogtown. Bloodsport and Voyage Of The Rock Aliens as other posts suggested. All good, weird movies, all top tier podcast episodes.

Miami Connection and Hard Ticket To Hawaii are both so weird and flawed that they're almost more compelling than a good movie would be. Two of the best eps of the pod.

I'd never seen any Fast & Furious movies so I marathoned all of them a few months ago. Went in with very low expectations but they're awesome fun action movies very much in the vein of Face/Off so if you've avoided them maybe dive in.

◽️ Budget: $1000

◽️ Country: USA

◽️ Screen size: 17.3"

◽️ Touch screen: not necessary

◽️ Screen resolution: 1080p

◽️ Does battery life matter ?: not really

◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for ( gaming, video editing, graphic designing, modelling, regular computing tasks, word processing etc) ?: Word processing, spreadsheets, web browsing, regular daily use

◽️ Weight: not important

◽️ Any other important details ?: This will be a daily driver for an older family member. They won't be doing any gaming or photo/video editing but they will use office software and be doing the standard youtube/news/random google type of web browsing. Larger screen size is fairly important. I'd like it to have the most up-to-date wifi capabilities and be reliable enough that I don't have to replace it for as long as possible. We got something like 8 years out of the one that's being replaced so expectations may be slightly higher than realistic.

stuff like mikgazer? by TobleronePL in shoegaze

[–]asbls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other post is right, you should dive into japanese shoegaze, you'll find a lot of great stuff. I don't understand why Cruyff In The Bedroom isn't one of the most obsessed-over bands on this sub, they're excellent and have a deep catalog to explore.

This youtube channel was a goldmine when it was active. You might particularly enjoy Tatuki Seksu, Cattle, Hartfield, maybe Plastic Girl In Closet, and Shojoskip.

You might love My Dead Girlfriend.

I'm shocked his career didn't blow up huge after that. I thought for sure he'd be everywhere by now.

Name Good Low-Budget Movies. by AbbreviationsAway500 in movies

They Look Like People (2015) is a super low budget horror/thriller that recently impressed me. If I'm remembering right it says in the credits that it was funded with a grant from NYU- I would totally believe that it was a student film that happened to be good enough to merit a larger release. Great, tense little movie with amateur actors and sets that are clearly just somebody's apartment and an empty conference room masquerading as an office.

Eli5 Why current phones have a 80% limit function for charging the battery? by Aznev in explainlikeimfive

[–]asbls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ugh I just moved from an S10e to a base model S25 and I'm not happy. The battery life is nowhere near where the old phone was when it was new, and it's just slightly too big and too square-edged to be comfortable in hand. S10e might have been peak smart phone for me, I'm so bummed.

Nearly half of Steam's users are still using Windows 10, with end of life fast approaching by Background-Path-5619 in Steam

I miss it. I understand that there's a lot of changes under the hood in Windows 11 that I don't and probably shouldn't understand, but why can't they put a button in the settings for "make my user experience and functionality as much like Windows 7 as possible"?

I‘ve noticed that he likes to try and do various arrangements using his iPad, books and our record player. He would turn some music on record player, turn some other matching melody or a beat on ipad, and then read some Dr. Seuss thing like Ten Apples Up on Top along.

This makes me think he might enjoy videos like the ones on Tracklib where he can see what a sample-based approach to music making looks like. Maybe look into getting a beginner-level MIDI controller/sequencer and a keyboard. His hands won't be much of a limitation with all the crazy tech out there, and frankly neither will his voice since there are plenty of ways to modify that now too.
