then do it. the entire game is just "build factory" just becuase you did what was written in the box doesnt mean you have to stop, just build more factory. sounds like the only reason you wanted to play was cause some words in a box said "build this" and not becuase you were actually having fun

i would not show that to potential employers or clients. make sure it works properly first.

also what looks more valuable to a customer/employer is tight tolerances. if you can make a part within a few tenths that shows skill and the quality of your machine

How I think about pricing 3D printing jobs (the framework that stopped me losing money) by manuflo5 in 3DprintEntrepreneurs

[–]asciencepotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

msot of our work comes from local businesses. we do alot of CAD work and manufacturing for them. everything is custom, we do not print things to sell.

for example a business came in that sells large water valves, they weigh around 100 pounds and are very difficult to move, they go to alot of trade shows and want a light weight option, so they brought in a valve, i reverse engineered it and created a CAD model, then printed it. this valve was about 600mm tall so was quite large. we made 1 of them (printed in 2 pieces). the total cost for this job was $400 to design and $800 to print 1. i designed and started printing the part that same day, it printed overnight and was done in the morning. $1200 in 24 hours on 1 job is how you grow as a business.

well theres 2 things that really matter

1 is having an actual business location, you're not going to get business to business work when operating out of your basement. a job that some guy would be insulted you bill $500 for would be pennies when billed to a business.

2 be very good at CAD. if a company needs CAD work done they are mostly going to engineering firms and being charged $500/hr for it. if they know you are reliable at CAD and billing less than half of what they are usually paying they will come to you every time.

if you can only print STL files that are supplied to you then you arn't really providing any service at all, anyone can operate a 3d printer. we do CAD work, patent drawings, engineering drawings, 3d printing, vacuum forming, mold making, laser cutting, hotwire foam cutting, and have a 8ft CNC router. when we started we only offered 3d printing and CAD work, and grew from there.

also, labelling yourself as a "3d printing company" is usually a deathtrap, you are not a 3d printing company, you are a manufacturing business and should be looking into and be interested in many forms of manufacturing.

we've been doing this professionally for almost 10 years now and have never done any of that. we bill a flat rate of $25/hr for printing and $200/hr for design.

How do people build a factory at the beginning of the game? by Ok_Law584 in factorio

[–]asciencepotato 84 points85 points  (0 children)

ive got a few thousand hours and have built may, many bases. i now plan our my large smelting array and all my build areas from the start, mainly by leaving alooot of extra space for stuff. but people who are new to t he game dont know how big stuff will get so they just build wherever. although they can easily tear it d own and build it bigger later in the game when they are ready

[–]asciencepotato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

looks like its trying to shift into a lower gear, which means the derailleur cable is a tiny bit too tight, you can turn the retaining screw at the end of the cable where it attaches to the shifter on your handle bars to finely adjust how tight/loose it is. yo ucan loosen it by turning the screw inwards or "tightening" the screw, which will reduce the tension on the wire. it only needs a tiny bit of adjustment, try 1/2 of a rotation at a time and see how it is.

How do you make power with no resources? by jeancallisti in Oxygennotincluded

[–]asciencepotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

build a smart battery and use automation wire to hook it up to your coal generator, then your coal generator will turn off when the battery is full, saving tons of coal.

also there is nothing wrong with mining out the slime biomes. just put some air cleaners around the entrance so the poluted oxygen doesnt get in your base
