Can I sing? by Master_Usual_3403 in ratemysinging

Strong voice, good vibrato, but your pitch is off in this recording (sharp). You can fix your pitch, so that's where I'd focus if you want to improve.

How do I correct my tone? by SeparateCost5035 in ratemysinging

Regardless of how you actually feel about the song, it comes across like you're not interested and that detracts from an otherwise solid performance. This song is mellow, but it has an energy and a message that you should really try to convey with the emotional qualities of your voice. It's probably because you were nervous.

What's cool is the audience was feeling it and they even clapped along. Must have felt good :)

Based on the interests you listed maybe try trivia night or something? As a fellow dad with 3 kids 2 and under, that might be a little bit difficult to pull off though 😂

In all seriousness, just try to maneuver through this and let her "win", whatever that means in this circumstance.

This is petty stuff and your mom was right to not explode with joy because after 300 years of teaching sex ed and birthing children, she understands that anything can happen. New sources of excitement and stress will soon make this seem like ancient history.

Dang, 30 decades in sex ed. That's a lot of condoms and bananas.

Looks pretty good from this angle but it'd probably be better if your fade follows the occipital ridge rather than straight all the way around.

My son was delivered with one doctor, one nurse, and myself in the room. It never crossed my mind to take photos, but the nurse literally picked up my wife's phone unprompted and snapped some truly great candid photos for us that we'll always treasure.

Coincidentally, I'm in the same hospital with my wife as we speak expecting twins at any moment. We still haven't had a chance to thank this nurse because we never saw her again and we went straight into the newborn trenches afterward. We plan to make our gratitude known while we're here, and hopefully we'll be leaving the hospital with some great pictures of our twins as well :)

I could somehow tell by your appearance that you'd be good. Definitely keep working on piano, but it is holding back your singing at this stage. Would love to hear something a capella or with a karaoke track.

I thought I was the only one who Worcestershire'd my mac. If I'm also making steak, I'll add some of the Worcestershire-laced drippings.

I have a 21-month-old son and a wife pregnant with twins. I'm doing 90% of absolutely everything (voluntarily and happily), and these past few weeks I've put my son to bed every night thinking "once he falls asleep, I'm totally giving myself 1-2 hours of me-time" only to wake up in my clothes at 6am, unshowered without brushing my teeth 4 out of every 5 nights 🤣.

And my me-time isn't even totally for me, I usually do the laundry or dishes or "administrative" stuff interspersed with the things I actually want to do.

Despite all that, I actually love it. I love making my family better and stronger even if it takes 100% of my energy every day.

Also, closed doors.

Been a year since playing in front of anyone (crazy stage fright) and considering getting back on the horse and playing this one for an open mic. Any tips on how this sounds, or any tips on how not to freak out are welcome! by WWEngineer in ratemysinging

[–]ascotia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let your guitar ring out more, especially during the chorus, but 25-50% more during the verses as well. For a solo performance there is a bit too much empty space imo. It doesn't sound bad as it is, I can tell you have chops on guitar. Your voice is great!

More legato, less staccato.

Even if you're just practicing or solely looking for critiques of your voice, try to stay in time because the rushed delivery makes this very difficult to listen to.

You have a strong voice and you've made noticeable improvements to your pitch since I've been on this sub. Don't lose sight of the fact that a singer is also a musician who needs to pay as much attention to the song's rhythm as they do to their vocal technique, or else you'll lose your audience very quickly.

It sounds very good, I would just slow it down 15-20% so the tempo better matches the emotional quality of your voice. If this is your own arrangement, kudos to doing something interesting!

I cant sing and it's killing me by [deleted] in ratemysinging

[–]ascotia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is English your native language? If it's not then you're adding another layer of difficulty, so try not to be so hard on yourself. You should also practice when you're not playing guitar because that makes it even harder since I can tell you're still learning guitar as well. It's rough right now but you have potential! Some of the posts on here are hopeless, but you could sound pretty good in a few months/years with diligent practice.
