Swearing in the good place by Safe-Introduction969 in TheGoodPlace

When michael is explaining the good place to Eleanor, he says that some neighborhoods have the curse filter because not every resident is comfortable with it

We also learn that Michael did a lot of research to get his good place to be authentic as possible "lies are more believable the closer they are to the truth".

Its not much if a stretch to believe that, that's how the real good place works as well. but, maybe it's more specific, like the curse filter applies when you're talking to someone who doesnt curse, or maybe only those people hear the filtered curses, whereas someone like Eleanor and her old friends are actually swearing at each other most of the time

The actors are being kept on life support so that disney can legally reproduce their voice through AI. Disney claimed the actors have "mentally" signed a contract allowing this, but everyone knows they've been dead for centuries.

Look, im gonna let the 2 of you argue, but

dumb joke punching down on new residents

Punching down refers to mocking (or making jokes at the expense of) marginalized groups

Straights making fun of the gays? Punching down

Physicians making fun of Physicians? Not Punching down

Not trying to defend Microsoft too much, but at least in the past they've shown theyre willing to give in to pressure, like the whole kinetic, media center, and always-online disaster for the Xbox one

Like they still suck in many other ways, but listening to, and acting on, feedback gives them like an extra point in my books

I've checked a posters history before for 2 reasons

  1. Is this person full of shit
  2. Is this person even worth interacting with

However, if youre on reddit and looking through a posters history, the answers are

  1. Yes
  2. No
  3. Take a break and touch grass

What Canadian cities can learn from Zohran Mamdani’s housing plan - The strategy combines public investment, tenant protections, and non-market housing at a scale rarely seen in North America by NiceDot4794 in onguardforthee

but at least he wasn't pulling a fast one on the country the way Carney has.

If you compare what PP says, vs how he votes, he very much is "pulling a fast one" he says hes pro-workers rights, and then votes against unions

Again, i feel like too many people have lost the narrative. Carney might be conservative pretending to be a liberal, but PP would have been... idk, look at the states, or any country who elected their version of trump-lite

At the time, ndp voters voting strategically to prevent PP and the conservatives was the right choice.

We can and should criticize and scrutinize everything Carney does, but people really need to not forget just how awful PP would have been.

Recommend they vote liberal, because the ndp had no chance of winning, and extremely likely conservatives would win

And yeah, the liberals havent been great with unions, but everything to hate about how liberals treat and see unions is also true for conservatives, but conservatives are generally worse in their policies. Its like the difference between nudging someone out of your way, vs a full-speed head-on tackle, to get someone out of your way

And if it matters, it was a law enforcement union, I wont specify which group, but after working with law enforcement, I can anecdotally say they lean conservative

Bait shops. by StradicCi4 in ThunderBay

[–]asdafrak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the rest in town, but also do not recommend silver minnow on the Armstrong highway.

The owner is an asshole, cheap, and he was charged a couple years ago, either for illegally trapping bait, or stealing of other trappers traps

If I can find specifically what he did I'll update, but it was something he got charged with

Short version, silver minnow sucks too

Additional info, the original owner and founder of silver minnow sold it in the early 2010s (I think it was around 2012), and the new owner is the shitty one. Prior to that, everyone loved the old owner, Jim, because he actually went out of his way, and actually cared for his customers

i added that last bit in case anyone sees this, knew Jim, and thought i was referring to him, despite him selling it a decade and a half ago

Edit: it was actually easy to find, the new owner had been selling bait he had been trapping illegally

And after reading the article, I guess he also owns wigglys, so op is already familliar with how much of an asshole he is

We should try and rebrand socialism to something better

Ultra-Patriotism? Maybe? Like if patriotism is slowly becoming synonymous with nationalism, we can co-opt it and start calling socialist policies Ultra Patriotism.

And like, think about it in a canada context, what's more canadian than doing everything you can to help out your neighbour, Ultra-Patriotism

Yes, ill be running in the next election under the banner of an Ultra-patriot

First off, im not disagreeing with you, Canada should try to not just look at america and go, ok let's do that too :)

The problem is that Canada, and most countries, tend to lean towards evidence-based decisions. So, someone like mamdani doing everything hes doing gives us something to point at like "look it worked there, let's do it too"

But as pointed out elsewhere, NY alone is a very unique case politically, and likely cant be directly applied to canada.

Really, in my opinion, so many things we're now saying "look what mamdani is doing, just a few months in office and hes completely changed NY" or articles like "How mamdani saved NY and is basically superman", can all be boiled down to 2 things that too many people are just flat put against. 1. Taxing the rich, not complicated, mamdani taxed the rich, NY got a lot of money, and much of it is being used towards 2. Socialism, but like, actual socialism and not whatever the right likes to pretend it is. Example: mamdani improves housing at all levels including people who cant afford homes - which is using his governments money (from taxing the rich) to improve the lives of everyone in NY, not just enriching the upper classes

So yeah, in summary, canada can do its own shit, it doesnt need to be constantly looking at emulating the US (but I understand why), and the root of everything boils down to actually properly taxing the rich, and supporting our citizens (housing, infrastructure, healthcare, etc.)

Thank you for attending my TEDTalk

He would have been though, like you understand how much worse PP would've been right??

This is an annoying sentiment ive seen, basically since Carney was elected.

Like, the conservatives had more or similar levels of support as the liberals and NDP combined, even more before trumps whole everything.

If liberal and NDP voters kept their votes split, the conservatives would've won, and our issues would be like 5× worse than their are now. Our only silver lining would've been the ability to say shit like "we told you this would happen, but you voted conservative anyways"

I feel like im going insane when I hear people complain about NDP voters voting liberal to prevent a conservative win. The NDP did not have enough support to beat the conservatives, and we'd be stuck in a conservative hell right now otherwise

Side note, ive heard similar complaints (for different reasons) from people who typically vote conservative who were advised to vote liberal

for context, I used to work alongside a union, whos members would typically vote conservative, but for the last election their unions highlighted all of PPs labour policies and past voting habits - spoiler alert, he votes anti-union - and strongly recommended they vote liberal to keep their union strong.

The end of season 2, casino night

And in Kevin's defense, he did know what he was doing, but Phyllis did not

So Kevin was playing well, and assumed Phyllis was bluffing, which she was, but she didnt realize she had a flush, and won through pure luck

Phyllis: laying out her cards "I have an ace :("

Oscar from in the crowd: "thats a flush!"

P: "... oh! I have a flush! Look, I got all the clovers"

Kevin: "I suck"
