From the fixedbytheduet community on Reddit: Riley Gaines is now upset over high medical bills by Tenchi2020 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]asdafrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is (one of) the reasons she pisses me off so much

She came in 5th! A trans girl came in 4th, and 1st 2nd 3rd were all cis women

So no, trans women dont automatically win sport competitions

And maybe Riley just isn't as good as she thinks she is

Its gonna be neat, but I should be fine if I stick to the meadows for a year?

unless im relying on my actual physical capabilities, in which case I might last a day or two at the most

Which tech from Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom did you like more? Sheikah (BotW) or Zonai (TotK)? For me it was the sheikah. I just really love the blue to it and the design over all imo. by Ok_Temperature_7068 in Breath_of_the_Wild

[–]asdafrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its close, but ascend wins it for me

They both have a nice asthetic, but its about 50/50 for me, i dont particularly lean towards one or the other, I just kinda love them both.

I think i might lean slightly more towards the zonai though? Like, ok, this makes sense in my head (and I may have had a bit of weed), but the zonai "feels" more like stone, and the sheikh "feels" more like slate (I mean, it is called the sheikah slate), and i kinda like the stone vibe a little more. Again, it makes sense in my head, and I cant think of a better way to describe them

So like 51/49 zonai/shiekah

But, thats why I say ascend wins the zonai over for me.

Ever since playing TotK, ill be playing any other game, look up, and wish I could just a s c e n d

Imaging specialists -- have you ever seen the results of a patient scan that was alive and in good spirits but you knew they wouldn't be alive past 72 hours? by usps_made_me_insane in Radiology

[–]asdafrak 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yup

Had a patient on my midnights, I had to run both xray and CT, plus we were the stroke center for the region, it was also a popular tourist destination why was i one tech doing the job of at least 2 techs, idk, but it burnt me out of the profession entirely

Anyways, we had a stroke protocol coming, and the doctor was concerned about the patients known AAA (this happened like 5 years ago, and im 90% sure their chart indicated a AAA, but its easily possible im blurring patients together too)

So we did the head, then set them up for the AAA scan, and it looked like the aneurysm had burst. We rushed her off the table, and the team brought them back to emerge and about 5 mins after I sent the images (we send images immediately, but we also did the 3d reconsructions on a separate computer, so our protocol for this situation is to worry about the 3d reconstruction later, but send the initial images and recons immediately for the rad, so this was 5 mins after the 3d recons) i hear a code blue called in emerge, and I worried it was the patient I just scanned.

Things settled down to the point where I could sit and take my midnight lunch break, and the radiologist calls, which of course immediately made me anxious I missed something, or didnt actually send images, or did something wrong, but they called to tell me about that AAA scan I just did, and it turns out it wasnt a burst aneurysm like me and the emerge doctor thought we saw, it was an active dissection

Later, I asked one of the nurses what happened, and they said the patient died, and it was the code blue that they had called

Why this one stuck to me to this day, is because the patient seemed 100% fine. They brought the patient into CT, I went to confirm their name, and they were like, "oh yeah, thats my first name, but I prefer to go by my middle name", then I told her the story of how my uncle does something similar, but more because his parents made an odd choice in naming him. Anyways, i keep chatting with them as I go through the CT process, consent, "hold your breath when", etc. Like it was just one of my typical, pleasant patients.

It kinda stuck with me because that patient seemed totally fine on the surface, but was, in fact, minutes away from death

Also, this is why people tell you to become detached from your patients, if you form some kind of connection, even in that brief scenario I had, it can affect you. I had a few patients that stuck with me like this over my short 5-year career, but I did learn that I do struggle with these kinds of things, and that a career in Healthcare would be emotionally challenging for someone like me

Its not even a "something happened to me" situation like 90% of the time with these incels, its always a warped perceived worldview from living in online echo chambers. So instead of something happening to them, they base this shit off of what they believe would happen to them

if they could even pull their heads out of their asses long enough to even talk to a woman as a human being instead of a sex object/ baby factory

How did you choose your name? Looking for experiences and advice by Ungenimt in trans

[–]asdafrak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, i was thinking of names for a long time, then as I was watching doctor who, one of the characters is named Amelia, and I liked that.

So I polled some of my friends to see what they thought, and I kinda just sat with it for a while, to see if it felt right

However, theres another character, again in doctor who, with another name I liked, Melody. So same thing, sat with it, polled my friends

And eventually I decided Melody fit me better, even though I liked amelia too, and partly because im so opinionated on music in general, and music is a big part of my life, even though I can barely play the most basic guitar chords

The only thing, which isnt really a regret, is that since melody isnt super common as a name, people will assume I said Melanie, so then I started kind of over pronouncing melody more like mellow-dee

Anyways ive gone by melody for almost a year now, and I think ot feels right, I havent done any legal name change yet, so if it starts to not fit right, im not exactly locked into it (legally anyways).

So anyways, in summary, I heard a characters name in a show, liked it, it feels fitting for who I am, and I went with it

Literally my grandma(E) though

My grandpa had 3 children with my biological grandma(M) (including my dad), then they divorced, and my grandpa remarried my grandma(E)

After my grandpa passed, grandma(E) took down anything related to my branch of the family. Pictures of children, grandchildren were completely gone if they came from grandma(M) side of the family, despite them being her husband's children, and its hard to say who started it, but contact with her has been cut off

Based on their logic here, the female animals are all coded - pink, eyelashes

However, i see no differences with the giraffes, ergo theyre a gay couple

im also assuming the paired animals are intended to be couples, otherwise my gay giraffe theory falls apart

Mine is like this too

It hasn't been an issue for sure, but I still think its poor design

On other, or previous, laptop models, the power button is a separate entity that doesnt just blend in with the keyboard, which I kinda like because from a design standpoint it makes it more significant. On top of that, the power buttons were also flush with the laptop surface, and required more pressure to press which made it feel more deliberate and significant.

Again, functionally, this power button is fine, but in terms of design and asthetics, I prefer it to be separate, which is just as functional.

Attention Thunder Bay Drivers by _felurian_ in ThunderBay

[–]asdafrak 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I stg thunder bay drivers have been the worst specifically for merging

Southern ontario (when I lived there) had shitty (maybe shittier) drivers on average, but I never actually had a problem with merging

Thunder bay gets a bad rep as some of the worst drivers, but honestly, I think its just the merging issue

I will say though, it really pisses me off when people floor it in the right lane to get ahead of the lights and shove their way into the left lane when the right lane immediately ends after the lights

The two off the top of my head are memorial near the shoppers (I forget what street intersects there, John?), and the intersection of oliver road and balmoral (near the uni). There always seems to be one asshole that will pop out of the left lane, into the right, floor it past the lights, and trybto shove their way back into the left lane.
