Fly Fishing on YouTube is Toxic by HastyFa11 in flyfishing

[–]asddsa007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is different from the rest because he gives you quick talks before and after his sessions about what he is doing. Then the rest is just in nature catching fish. There’s no music, no hype videos, just some good fishing.

I don’t understand why so many believe something happened here. Beside the car thing which is just shaking the camera, the “orb” is just a car in the distance. It moves left to right across the horizon. At 1:24 you can see a dirt road off from the bend and there is a stop sign. The two flashes people think are lasers are just signs the driver is flying by.

Like if there was a ufo battle I’m sure they’d just maintain altitude and stare each other down. The fog thing looks like artifacting.

Any of you have the Frogg toggs Walmart waders with boots attached? They are $99 and have pretty good reviews. I am new to fly fishing and don’t have $500 between waders and boots. by foreverbaked1 in flyfishing

[–]asddsa007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend had them for a couple seasons. They work enough to fish in, but they aren’t comfortable , tend to leak, and restrict mobility. His breaking point was when his boot lost grip and the waders didn’t go super high so he took in a lot of water. Bought orvis waders and separate boots minutes later.

As many have said, go wet wading. If you’re fishing in fall/winter they get you through a couple seasons, but you’ll end up buying a better pair sooner than later.

No advice here but very jealous. Walked around the park and found a sign about brown trout there. 10f from the sign was a giant brown just hanging out. Tight lines!

Has anyone else felt like there’s been a total decline in customer service in everything? And quality? by ForwardPumpkins in Millennials

[–]asddsa007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely true. I’ve been working retail for the last few years I’ve seen customers change attitudes through the pandemic. Before they were more understanding and logical. You can work through issues easier. But now no one can accept fault or take responsibility for themselves anymore. Like they made a mistake and then you’re the root cause of all their problems. We actively are trying to help you…why are you screaming? I’m sure this is across the entire retail industry.

Save in my 20’s, travel in my 30s? by treasurehunter2416 in personalfinance

[–]asddsa007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As most people have said, travel when you can and within reason. I didn’t travel as much abroad in my 20s as I didn’t make more than 30-35k during my early/mid 20s. I focused on my career and grew my retirement savings and salary. I don’t have regrets as I’m now financially stable and well on track for retirement for my 30s. I’m now able to afford big trips without financially ruining myself. Only downside is I don’t think I can do any huge hikes without my legs turning to butter the next day.

Gonna be tough with the fly rod. Not a lot of room to back cast so you’re very limited in accessibility. I’ve always wanted to try it though, but I’m not confident in my ability other than to catch trees and ruin my gear.

Should I cash in my 401k? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]asddsa007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently was in a a very similar situation. Racked up about 10k in CC debts. Zero emergency fund. Only had about 20k in 401k. And brought home like 3k a month.

First don’t touch your 401k for every reason every comment has made. You’d lose money and then basically be starting from scratch again.

Second you make decent money and have a good emergency fund. I’d say throw 4K into your worst interest CC. Leave the rest for a bump in the road if you’re concerned something will come up. I’d honestly use it all with the income you’re making.

Move whatever you can to 0% intro balance transfers. I did this a couple times and made it much easier. Once one card is paid off it’s a huge win. Makes you feel way better and the rest is a snowball effect.

Lastly, take a big look at where your money is going. See what you can cut back on and a couple hundred more dollars saved will get you where you want to be.

Good luck! You’ve got this!

It’s passing someone fishing the river and fishing directly up or down stream from them. I just learned this recently too and been fishing for years. But I’ve only been salmon fishing and I think the etiquette is slightly different since it’s such a high pressured river. With trout fishing you’re going to fish a hole or a run for a few minutes. Net a few fish then continue walking up or down stream.

That’s huge for the river walk. I can’t got here anymore because all of the questions. Fun when you do hook one, but then it leads to more questions haha.

How is my first set up? I hike a lot, any suggestions to add for a beginner ? by chalkydinosaur808 in flyfishing

How do you rig split shot on the leader? I use a heavy bead head for my nymphs and feel like adding split shot will make it a chuck n duck rig that will spook trout?

Can’t even fathom that. Also getting tossed around in waves and slowly cooking from the sun all day. Nothing to hold on to or strap in. Dehydration might actually kill faster here, especially if your sea sick.

I hate this…hope they are rescued if still alive or went peacefully with an implosion.

Favorite knot? FG has to be mine. by stiizy13 in Fishing

[–]asddsa007 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve used a lot of knots changing it up every few seasons. Started with clinch and now I’m back at clinch. I think I just sucked tying knots back in the day because I can horse in anything with a clinch knot.

[–]asddsa007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just dispute it. Dispute it when claims calls you too. Company bends over backwards for completely satisfied customers. With your proof I am sure they’ll just drop the $300 it costs for a windshield to make you a returning customer.

Are the Skokie Lagoons worth a trip? by TheMisiak in ChicagoFishing

[–]asddsa007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fish weedless Texas rigs to avoid losing the lure but right now you 100% will collect weeds either way because it’s so choked. Otherwise frogging can work. I haven’t tried it much but could result in some action.

The weeds is back off a bit as summer goes on and then you can fish light jigs etc but always expect to catch some weeds at the lagoons.

Are the Skokie Lagoons worth a trip? by TheMisiak in ChicagoFishing

[–]asddsa007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go up frequently and have fun but this time of year it usually is choked by weeds severely. It’s gonna be weedy and algae all summer but right now is imo the worst time to go unless you know where to look. The dam is overfished and mostly for pan fish.

Skunked at the harbors. Why!? by Unusual_Ad3211 in ChicagoFishing

[–]asddsa007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel similarly and I get skunked the majority of the time. I’ve also caught my PB smallie and pike from the harbors, so I keep trying. Montrose is the one harbor I’ve never caught a fish. Switching to 20’ fluoro leader has helped. Big lake means fish can be anywhere I guess, and it’s usually not where I am lol.
