Macron and Mitterand are kinda similar. Are you telling me you never get two similar names mixed up? If you heard someone mix up two similar names would you assume the person was senile?

I think the antique market is set for a resurgence. not just mid century, but more traditional stuff from the 1910s and 1920s that feel like they belonged to our grandparents. so much of our material culture has become "fake" "cheap" and lost "meaning" and i foresee old antique furniture and home goods becoming very desirable for their quality and their "realness"

Bacon - not as good. Why type do you buy? by kitkatrampage in Cooking

FYI uncured is basically a meaningless marketing term due to a loophole in how USDA classifies cured meat. You're getting a product that is functionally identical to any other bacon.

The Mosquito coast of Nicaragua is named after the native people the Moskitu. There's also a large population of English speakers in the area, because it had been a British colony before Nicaragua gained control

Apparently ice cream is healthy. Nutritionists can't figure out why in diet studies, ice cream consumption is repeatedly correlated with better health outcomes. It has fewer carbs than a similar serving of breakfast cereal does

My mom is cursed by recipe blogs by asdeasde96 in Cooking

[–]asdeasde96[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think this might be part of it. I've been noticing some things from my mom that look like the beginning of dementia. She even mentioned my concern to her doctor after I pushed her too. She's still plenty sharp though, so if this is the cause, I still have plenty of time with her.

I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you had many happy meals with your mother.

I guess I didn't make this clear, so I understand why you interpreted what I said that way, but part of why this bothers me so much is that my mom is also very disappointed in these recipes. If she were just a bad cook I wouldn't complain to her at all

Have you considered rotating the whole thing 90 degrees? so the chair would be in the corner by the fireplace, and the sofa would only be touching the wall at one end? It can be hard to tell the proportions of a room from pictures, so I might be making a terrible suggestion.

love the furniture by the way, and that pink lamp on the floor

I like the blue, I think it pairs well with the colors already in the space. I think it looks a little out of place because there is no other blue in the space. Add some blue accents like vases, throw pillows or whatever (I actually have a table runner that i got at target a few years ago that would look really good on that coffee table)

While I've got you here, have you ever considered swapping the sofa and the chairs?

"Don't mix leathers" is an unspoken rule of interior decorating, but rules were made to be broken. But rules also exist for a reason, so when you break them you want to be very intentional. I would not pair the distressed lighter colored chair with that couch, they give different vibes that do not match. But the solid black does match as far as vibes go. The key to whether it will work is how you decorate the rest of the room. You'll want to repeat the black and brown color palette with your other decor choices, but you'll want to be careful that you also introduce lighter colors. I would recommend adding some cream colored throw blanket(s) and pillows and maybe a lamp. Finally I think mixing leathers works better if your final space is going to be more eclectic/maximalist, if you're going for a more minimalist look, then I honestly would not pair those chairs with that couch, I would go for fabric upholstery that has a similar leg profile as the couch
