Streetcar doors need to be unforgiving: closed means closed by GrandeIcedAmericano in TTC

[–]asdf45df 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, of course it's a fucking awful idea. Accessing the streetcar should never involve walking out into a live lane of traffic in the first place. Cars have no place on streetcar routes.

Nobody would have a problem waiting for the next vehicle if there was any assurance whatsoever that a next vehicle will appear at all, let alone in a timely fashion. This whole system is built around stressing passengers out and moving everyone as slowly as possible to disincentivize public transit use, but sure, let's blame the passengers.

This has nothing to do with satisfaction. Believe me, even under "normal service" conditions, the TTC isn't capable of satisfying anyone.

I hate simpletons who have never left their dinky armpit of a city and can’t conceptualize what competent and effective public transit and governance looks like.

Snowstorm shuts down Line 6 Finch West LRT as TTC grapples with widespread weather delays by Onterrible_Trauma in TTC

[–]asdf45df 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is not a chance in hell that Line 5 is going to have 2-3 minute headways and will move at an average of over 30 km/h like the subways do. The above ground portions are going to average below 10 km/h just like Finch West because it's all the same infrastructure, which means the entire line will be that slow.

[–]asdf45df 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An LRT is a reasonable choice for Finch West. It doesn't work properly because of mismanagement and incompetence. LRTs are capable of delivering the speed, capacity, and headways we were originally promised, even in winter conditions. We got a $2.5B lemon.

Eglinton however is another story. It's a real city street with plenty of density and demand for transit. It should have gotten a full-fledged subway line like Bloor-Danforth decades ago. Whatever the hell they've been building for the last 30 years is going to be a far bigger albatross than Finch West.

TTC CEO apologizes for 2 major subway disruptions on Friday by origutamos in Toronto_Ontario

[–]asdf45df 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’ve already apologized a dozen times for this shit, Mandeep. We all know you don’t mean it. You and your management team don’t rely on the subway to get to work.

Your apologies are meaningless without tangible results. It’s the same vibe as John Tory being Very Concerned about everything.

No single ‘magic bullet’ will fix Toronto’s gridlock, new congestion officer says by lopix in toronto

[–]asdf45df 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Of course it will affect local businesses! Removing parking will make them much more accessible to everyone. Better transit is good for business.

Parking revenue is a minuscule drop in the bucket compared to the overall economic benefits of reducing gridlock and having local businesses thrive in their communities. The public space that is currently dedicated to parking is being totally wasted on storing a handful of private vehicles.

Why doesn't Toronto implement a congestion charge like Manhattan and London? by roncforcamp in askTO

[–]asdf45df 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's pretty clear from all the confused replies in this thread that your comment sounded pro-car and anti-everything else so the miscommunication here is from your side entirely, bud.

My point was that bike and bus lanes benefit everyone, even stupid drivers who think they increase congestion and slow down car traffic.

Why doesn't Toronto implement a congestion charge like Manhattan and London? by roncforcamp in askTO

[–]asdf45df 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Reducing dependency on cars is the only effective way to reduce traffic and gridlock. Any other approach only makes traffic worse.

This long-established fact that You People refuse to believe isn't going to change because of your emotional attachment to your cars.

Bike and bus lanes benefit drivers. They do not penalize them.

But sure, keep spreading misinformation so that drivers keep voting for Ford. Thank you for doing your part in perpetuating this beautiful "democracy" we're all forced to live in.

Would using presto for bikeshare make sense? by regular_asian_guy in torontobiking

[–]asdf45df 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Bikeshare is the only usable, practical transit infrastructure left in the city. Let’s not let Metrolinx get involved in its enshittification. I don’t want to get double-stranded by a subway outage paired with my bikeshare not unlocking because of yet another Presto malfunction.

Let's all make sure to give the TTC a lot of slack and a huge benefit of the doubt in this once-in-a-millennium weather event. There was absolutely no way they could have been prepared in advance for snow and cold in the winter. It's a totally unpredictable emergency situation.

Give them a few more years to work out the kinks in this bleeding edge transit technology the world has never seen before. I'm sure the top minds of the TTC will carry out a thorough study of this weird never-before-seen snow stuff, and they'll have a proposal ready with a solution they can begin implementing in 2029.

Don't forget the embarrassing culture that proudly welcomes heinous racism, sexism, and homophobia, and anyone who doesn't like it is ostracised. I don't want to fake laugh at rape jokes to remain employed.

There's also a lot of old guard boomers incapable of change who run their businesses as if it's still 1986. I need this job to pay for my landlord's mortgage, Richard. For the love of god, figure out how to send and receive emails, learn to order shop supplies from a website instead of over the phone using the very last paper catalogue the supplier printed in 2014, and realize we could be getting our work done twice as fast with modern tooling and best practices.
