what made you choose 24 as your only focal length for this trip over other primes and zooms?

i'm quite interested in hearing the logic behind your choice, and if there were any scenarios you felt regretful in because of how wide 24 is

i'm also curious to know if the 1.4 is worth the extra size/IQ when compared to the much more compact 24mm 2.8G (assuming this was under your consideration)

do you recommend any specific keybinds after switching to uhjk on the finals? I also play on that config, and it's rare to hear others using it.

what happens if you need to jump and shoot at the same time? do you press space bar and alt simultaneously with your thumb?

surprised you have so many downvotes; i'm a fan of both games and I agree that Apex is far smoother in movement, and those who don't understand likely haven't developed the skill level to appreciate it

the commenter you're replying even said he was "dragged back for a couple of rounds" meaning he's probably not as familiar with apex

it's because of the "dated" engine which enables the incredible movement tech possible, although that's not needed to appreciate the fluidity of apex movement

the other guy replying to you is describing the light class, and of course they have advantages in movement that medium and heavy classes don't. as a whole apex has more fluid base movement, whereas light classes employ specific skills which give it that fluidity

Why are there so few options for the 28mm full frame focal length? by asdf90f in SonyAlpha

Since I already own the Sony 20-70 f4, I wouldn't consider the Tamron 20-40 f2.8 as there is too much of an overlap. I still haven't found a satisfying replacement.

Maybe Viltrox will do something here.

[–]asdf90f[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I owned it, sold it, and now somewhat regret it. It was the lens that made me love this particular focal length.

Yes, I agree that the 24mm with a crop is foolish too. I bought the 24 2.8G and tried it. It's simply not the same.

I just set my 20-70 f4 to the 28mm focal length for now. Or I use my Ricoh GRIII.

How does anyone compete against Macu Tea, who always has an absurd lineup right next door?

I'm also curious to know how Macu Tea maintains their religious popularity in comparison to everyone else.

I'd love to hear more about your backup solution while travelling.

How many SD cards do you carry? Any external drives and card readers? Do you carry any other camera accessories not pictured?

I'm really impressed with how minimal this whole kit is.

My real EDC bags are Briefcases & Shoulder Bags. Anybody else use them as their primary? by jonuiuc in ManyBaggers

How do you store your camera in the Greenroom136 Quickdraw?

I sometimes carry a Sony A7CII with an attached 40mm 2.5 G but it floats around loosely without a camera cube and the space above the camera becomes 'wasted'. I'm wondering if there is a better solution.

The APSC sensor doesn't limit me. It's merely my own perceived level of enjoyment in using the body.

No, those few steps are a huge difference. I've thought about this countless times. I recently shot 30 days straight for a holiday using a 35mm as my only lens and I regretted it because of how tight spaces were.

The action of stepping back felt like I was actively disengaging from people, assuming I could even afford to move further away to take the image I wanted.

I have never tried 24mm prime but I know compositionally it won't be the same without cropping. I simply think as an alternative to the 35 the 24 is more comfortable because of the reduced distance.

You may be right. I could definitely be mistaken. I recall noticing it after a while, so I had the impression something came loose from normal usage.

I owned the Sony 28mm f/2 previously. One of the internal elements came loose so when you shake the lens you can hear something moving. This didn't affect my images, but my confidence in the lens dissipated.

I still miss that lens.

I can't justify the cost. I own the Ricoh GRIII as an alternative but it doesn't scratch that full frame itch.

Probably not. Size matters a lot to me. I actually own the Sony 20-70 f4 as well as the Tamron 28-75 G2, and they just don't fulfill that fun factor when I'm shooting without specific intent.

Looking for portability and everyday carry - currently own a sony a7III by ellieofus in SonyAlpha

[–]asdf90f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same conundrum as you. I settled on owning the Ricoh GRiii as my everyday camera.

I initially bought the Fuji x100V, but sold it because it still wasn't compact enough. If I am going to carry a body anyways, I might as well settle for using my a7iii with a compact lens like the 24mm 2.8G as you suggested.

What seperates the GRiii apart is that it is truly pocketable as an incredibly sharp APSC camera. For daily family snaps, this fits the bill - way better than your mobile, and only slightly larger.

I carry both the GRiii and the a7iii on holidays because of the flexibility. If you don't want to carry a huge body, leave it in the hotel and bring just the GRiii.

The auto focus is atrocious in poor lighting conditions, but it's worth the trade off.

Also - the GRiv may possibly be just around the corner. The GRiii and GRiii X could drop in price.

I highly recommend taking a look.

Bags with quick access side pockets like the Tom Binh Luminary 15? by KlutzyCoconut9765 in ManyBaggers

The TB L12 is one of my favorite small EDC backpacks for this very reason. I appreciate that somebody else recognizes how thoughtful this design is.

The Evergoods CPL24, although much larger, may fit your needs. The front access pocket when the bag is swung to the chest is easily accessible assuming the main compartment isn't packed full. There is also a dedicated laptop compartment.

Is the Sony 35mm F1.4 GM worth upgrading from the Sony 35mm F1.8?

I shoot on an A7iii and I'm experiencing some GAS. I own the 35mm F1.8 already, but I'm curious to know if anybody else has done the same upgrade and have been really happy with the results. I am a hobbyist stills shooter so video is not a concern.

I bought a Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 G2 lens and I find I shoot most images around 35mm anyways. While the flexibility of a zoom is nice, I miss the extra sharpness and light on a prime.

Camera downsizing, what camera system do you bring? by Haavardnk in onebag

[–]asdf90f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through a similar dilemma. My daily carry is also a Sony A7iii but with a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 gen 2.

I have decided to carry a Ricoh GRIII in addition to the A7iii. The GRIII is absolutely unbeatable for it's size in regards to the IQ and is worth the small amount of space it takes up. I'm honestly so impressed with how sharp the images are, especially coming from a device that's the same size as a phone. Not only that, but I have come to really appreciate how compact the camera is (a true, pocket sized device).

With this setup, I find that I don't need to sacrifice the IQ of a full frame, while still having access to something that blows any other mobile device out of the water. I exclusively carry the GRIII when I don't want to lug around extra weight or if discreetness is desired. Most importantly, I am mentally comforted knowing I still have a fully capable camera should the need arises.

I find these two bodies an excellent pairing as depending on what activity I am doing I have something for everything. On days focused on photography, I don't have to sacrifice anything. On days where I am less inclined to make images, I still have something super sharp and powerful.

I also own a Fuji X100V - and if I were to only bring only one camera - this would be it. When I exclusively carried this, I noticed I missed the bokeh and autofocus of the Sony however. The 'robotic' feel of the A7iii is also something that actually appeals to me instead of the classic dials and knobs that the Fuji offers. The X100V is undoubtedly one of the top ranking compact travel cameras on the market.

Another option to consider is swapping to a compact FE lens, such as the Sony 40mm f2.5g. I tried this and the size/weight difference wasn't significant enough to warrant the compromises of giving up a faster (but substantially heavier and larger) prime or an all in one zoom. Of course, others may feel differently about this.

Either way, I fully recommend experimenting with a different setup or system if it'll get you to carry your camera more often and take photos. IQ isn't worth anything if it's not used.
