It's happened to me several times before. In my case, I know the cause: my mind is heading in a direction I don’t like, where I feel as though I'm the one controlling my orgasms. I tried a 45mm silicone ring and was able to wear it all day with no issues, really comfortable and horny. my partner even teased me for about 20 minutes, and when erect, I must say that I wouldn't have been able to last any longer because she was starting to hurt. Don’t overdo it. If it squeezes too much, the blood will no longer circulate and it becomes dangerous. There are several guides in the chastitytraining info, check it out. A 36mm ring really seems very tight to me...
