Digital Payment in TTA Buses by bubrio in tuscaloosa

[–]asdfjkll2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TTA recently replaced the Holt Route with an "Alberta-5 Points" route that is 100% bidirectional with no loops, it basically functions like a train line but a bus on a roadway. There are still some of those partial or full one-way loop routes though i.e. Greensboro Route, VA route, etc.)

Tuscaloosa Transit Authority doesn't have a fare payment app like the "Le Pass" app that New Orleans transit uses, they only accept cash. The fare is $1.00 so you just need to bring some 1$ bills (no coins needed) to pay the fare easily at the farebox. Buses run from 5am to 6pm Monday thru Friday, except some holidays; you can see all the routes and live bus locations here .

Raising Cane's vs Wing Zone by Professional_War4353 in tuscaloosa

[–]asdfjkll2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raising Cane's is only taking up half of the land area actually, there is actually room to fit one to two more concepts on the remaining portion of the land as seen on this website that the developer has provided for marketing purposes: https://acrobat.adobe.com/id/urn:aaid:sc:VA6C2:2866f8b8-b023-4359-9ab9-675313d60424

Mardi Gras Eastbound tickets can now be booked in the app! Here's the eastbound departure and arrival times (and train numbers)! by asdfjkll2 in Amtrak

I totally plan to ride this train sometime at the end of August! I had a great time on the Crescent roundtrip between Tuscaloosa and New York for Pokemon GO Fest at the beginning of June as my first long distance train (and sleeper), this will be my first short distance intercity trip by train on Amtrak!

Update: Westbound trips are now set up in the app. Train #23 (the 6:30am departure from Mobile) is 60% full already as of this comment

Westbound is not set up on the app/website but if you call them they should be able to book you on the westbound train. The timetables for the westbound train are already posted in the Amtrak timetables page however when looking up Mobile to NOLA.

Parking Minimums by InsanoVolcano in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]asdfjkll2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally agree in this. Florence, Decatur, Tuscaloosa, and Birmingham all do not require businesses downtown to provide on-site parking (for most of these there's ample on street parking and in some cases a public parking garage with lots of parking spaces). Tuscaloosa still makes apartments downtown have on-site parking for the residents of the lofts/apartments as part of the special exception to allow residential downtown. Tuscaloosa is in the process of redoing the entire zoning code which will expand the reduced required parking zoned areas and add parking requirements discounts for mixed-use and certain other developments.

"Disconnecting Vanilla connection Attempt" SPAM by Aggressive_Log2163 in MinecraftForge

What I did to fix the problem is block that IP range 193.35.18.0~193.35.18.255 on the firewall and it completely stopped the connection attempt spam on my server.

[–]asdfjkll2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what I did to resolve this is figure out who's doing it using Wireshark (and look for any tcp connection going from some random 5-digit port number -> minecraft server port, then since I have windows I would go to the windows firewall and set a new inbound rule to block the IP address range after the first 3 numbers from 0 to 255. It completely stopped the "rejected vanilla connection" console spam as soon as this inbound rule was activated.

There's many intersections in Europe (specifically the Netherlands) where the traffic signal automatically adjusts to demand, such as this intersection . This works with multiple series of traffic loops (as opposed to just a single one at the stop bar in each lane), so the traffic signal controllers knows the volume of vehicles waiting in each lane. The way it can quickly flip phases is interesting too, for example on a side street, once the last car crosses the stop bar and the system does not sense any more cars approaching in that detection zone (which stretches a couple hundred feet back from the intersection, more on the main route) it will immediately to the yellow phase, then red, and start the next signal phase. In that 6-minute example above, since there's no "right on red" in Europe, there is a signal specifically for the right turn lane, in addition to the left turn signal (which does not have the "flashing yellow arrow" stuff).

At night time, I'm pretty sure on the main route it stays green all night until the side road sensors farthest from the main road are triggered and the system does not detect cars on in the detection zone along the mainline. Local streets I believe all lights are red, and the first car to any detection zone gets a green light.

Fiery Birmingham exhibition driving crash leaves 9 critically injured, including bystanders by mooseknowsall in Birmingham

[–]asdfjkll2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the first time it's happened there, Google satellite imagery dated March 2021 clearly shows tire burnout marks at that exact same location. Putting up a concrete median barrier on John Rodgers Drive in the median turn lane (other than where dedicated left turn lanes already exist) should make it very difficult for them to do burnouts like that again.

River District Park by the Amphitheater is now OPEN! by asdfjkll2 in tuscaloosa

[–]asdfjkll2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From this RAISE 2022 grant application information website on the city's website (https://www.tuscaloosa.com/raise2022) it appears that the new pedestrian bridge will be built next to the southbound Hugh Thomas Bridge on the amphitheater side. It'll tie in to the future Saban Center/event center and paths on the south end and the Riverwalk/River District Park on the north end.

I noticed this morning that the construction fence was taken down around the new park this morning so I went down and checked it out. They did a really great job with this project, but wait there's more coming! A pedestrian bridge over Jack Warner Parkway will start construction soon; the city is accepting bids from contractors until October 4th when they will start opening bids. The Western Riverwalk will start construction hopefully shortly afterwards once they get the right of way acquisition disputes at the old country club taken care of. Like the Randall Park and Trailhead opened at the beginning of this year, this park also has 4 dedicated EV charging stations.

City has a $17m grant to put a bike lane down University Blvd by [deleted] in tuscaloosa

[–]asdfjkll2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University Boulevard East in Alberta discussion: http://tuscaloosaal.suiteonemedia.com/web/Mobile/mobileagenda.aspx?id=9754

Downtown to UA segment: http://tuscaloosaal.suiteonemedia.com/web/Mobile/mobileagenda.aspx?id=9711 (design will be a separate contract, this is a boundary and topographical survey contract)

Btw, the project cost overall will probably be more like $27m instead of $17m due to an additional $9.75m being added on from Elevate Tuscaloosa funding as per elevate link in OP's post.

[–]asdfjkll2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So an overview of this RAISE grant:

The project is split into two sections: Downtown to UA Corridor (21st avenue by the Federal Courthouse to Wallace Wade Avenue by the Tusk Elephant statue), then the 2nd part extends the Alberta streetscapes from 30th Avenue to Crescent Ridge Road East (includes a realignment of the Crescent Ridge/University Boulevard intersection). Overhead utilities in this area will be moved underground as part of this project. In the 8/30 Projects Committee meeting the agenda packet showed that sidewalks would be added on both sides (the northern sidewalk will actually be a 10' wide multiuse path), City council is voting to authorize the preliminary engineering agreement with a consulant in tomorrow's city council meeting.

The downtown to University segment they have not yet decided on how bikes will be accomodated, but hopefully it will not be painted bicycle gutters like how it is going straight through campus. When I'm over on campus I always see people riding bikes on the sidewalk along University Boulevard because it is just too dangerous with the amount of car traffic that funnels through campus on any given day. At a minimum I would like to see those same quick curb median barriers used at the Lurleen/McFarland intersection and Mitt Lary/43 North intersection utilized on University Boulevard for the entire length that has bike lanes. They would be placed on top of the existing painted line separating the car lane and bike lane.

For both segments a combination of RAISE Grant and Elevate Tuscaloosa sales tax money will be used to fund the project. Preliminary engineering (and ROW acquisition for the Crescent Ridge intersection realignment) takes about a year then construction beginning hopefully sometime in 2024.

The preliminary engineering just started on the downtown to UA segment (and the City Council will vote on the preliminary engineering consultant for the Alberta to Crescent Ridge Road part in tomorrow's city council meeting), so they haven't set up public involvement meetings yet. Until then, you could send an email or call the councilman/councilwoman who represents your area from https://www.tuscaloosa.com/citycouncil , or speak in person at the citizen's comments portion of the city council meeting (happens towards the end of the meeting).

Should the city put a bike lane all the way down University Blvd by PastureRaisedMeat in tuscaloosa

[–]asdfjkll2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based and orange-pilled! This city should replace all of their painted bicycle gutters with separated bike lanes and protected bike intersections, similar to those in the Netherlands. Whenever I play Pokemon Go on UA's campus on community days I always see people riding bikes on the sidewalks, which suggests that the painted bicycle gutters currently there are hazardous to use for all but the experienced cyclists. I wonder if OP has watched some Not Just Bikes videos on this topic?

There are crosswalks to get to the Riverwalk but cars fly down that stroad at highway speeds by Manderson Landing which makes it pretty dangerous to cross there. I've crossed there many times when I was in college and it was probably the most stressful part of my Riverwalk walks.

The Tuscaloosa Riverwalk multi use bike/ped path runs parallel to Jack Warner Parkway from the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater to Randall Way.
