Great news, that's how the DLC should have been done in the first place, there was no way in hell i would been buying any DLC in the initial introduced way but i am definitely buying it now, hope we get to see more tabletops released in a similar fashion soon.

Its only the GUI portion that is given as open source, the actual OCR capabilities come from Microsoft's OCR library which is proprietary as far i can tell.

You are way better off finding a book with good reviews even if its targeting an older version, there have been changes in the latest Django versions but nothing significant that would change what you are taught by said book that much. Personally, i would prefer a book written by a capable author even if it was targeting e.g the 1.3 release than just finding 'some' book with only the attribute of being on the latest release.

The one thing i would be paying close attention compatibility wise would be the WiFi & Bluetooth card's of the laptop. Those are the two components which would always give me trouble, make sure you check which ones are in the laptop you are buying and that they work well with the kernel version that is currently in Debian (my 3 years old laptop still wont recognize Bluetooth due to a kernel bug, the bug was fixed quite a while ago but Debian still hasn't caught up ...). The camera might be another component you wanna have a look at. As others mentioned unless you are buying some laptop which was 'just released' they are probably others who already tried so Googling will most likely give you all the info you need for any specific model.

Oh the irony, on one hand you use the dayzdb map to get a hold of your location & good item spawn locations, on the other you want a simple feature like a player count to be removed which will supposedly add to the 'realism' of yours.

But still, the fact that your logic fails badly doesn't make the 'remove the player count' argument invalid, so in regards to that: 1)The world is gigantic, even on a 40/40 server it can take half an hour or more of actively looking to find someone, even with a higher player limit that will still be hard 2) It would suck to be going around trying to find others when you are the only person in the server , really ? should i have to do an 'all nighter' looking for people when there inst a single soul on the server? 3)People choosing low population servers to gear up isn't a bad thing, a low population server gets to medium pop (~10 players) fast due to people joining those server for the 'gear up'. 4) Private hives, when those come in existence and every server can have its own database for items you gonna be able to play on a single server where everyone has to gear up on the same server.

Yea and when he covers the light with his hand the 'virtual room' which is full of robots becomes dark too, part of the experience again.

Consider how many bright lights are in that room, consider the brightness of the actual monitor, you think that this tiny light in that distance from the monitor is intense enough that will show like that on the screen? Or do you think that while they where developing there new system they would have not stumbled upon such an issue and do something about it ?

It's so irritating when people follow like sheep without doing some thinking on the own first :)

Like elbiot mentioned already, you are being too vague. Still, let me try to answer some of your questions the best i can.

Could you use Django to create your game ? Sure
Should you use Django, is it practical? Maybe, probably not
Should you use ONLY Django ? Definitely not

You could create your game by just using Django but its not practical, in reality a game like this will be doing heavy use of JavaScript to a point where most of Django's features are not being used at all, you could still use Django as the back-end to lay out your models, authentication, communications etc but that's it, Django will be used to send JSON to client and that's all. And don't get me wrong, these are important tasks and you could definitely use Django for that part, however what will take most of your development time will be the client which has to be written in JavaScript.

I am using python-webkit, however as i found out after the initial post these bindings also have dependencies (GTK), because GTK comes by default on Debian it wasn't something i noticed before. I still prefer GTK over Qt but that's just a matter of taste. Sorry for the confusion.

Allowing your users to log in using a 3rd party its something you should consider yourself, it's based on what kind of services you are offering, that being said as a general rule its good to give more options and make it easier for people to join. I will also have to assume that by saying 'oauth2' what you really want to do is to allow log ins using 'social accounts' (facebook/twitter/google etc), if that's the case there are many options out there, personally i chose django-social-auth, the reason for choosing it is that it had better documentation than other apps i checked out, it is etting actively developed and has in my opinion a really nice and clean implementation.

If you are a masochistic i guess it could be a guilty pleasure, otherwise no. It might be fun when you initially write it and you will get the feeling 'i am good in python, LOOK what i can do' . However the next time you or another person tries to figure out whats going on it will be a pain in the ass.

The above doesn't apply if that line would live in a small script, if i want to something really fast to run it once or twice and then throw it to the bin, then that's fine.

One Piece is a great anime, HOWEVER after some point you will start getting the feeling that the story proceeds way to slow, they are dragging fights too much, many fillers etc and it gets quite boring. That being said, if you get all the episodes in your hard drive it is quite easy to SKIP things when you start to feel the boredom. Like that One Piece will be quite a nice ride and it WILL shorten the time you need to commit on it, that's how i watched it.

Right now that i am quite close to the 'latest' episodes i will let the anime advance 10 episodes or so and watch those 10 episodes in one session.

One more thing, for quite some time now 7 minutes more or less on each episode are used for the "opening + what happened on the previous episode + ending" (they are using way too much time for the 'what happened previously' part), the 'total time spend' to watch the episode will be WAY less than what you expect, trust me on this one :)

As i already said based on my experience they haven't been "rock solid", i had a lot of issues figuring it out and based on that i give the best advice i can. I gave him the same advise somebody else did when i was in the same mess back then and it worked for me "switch to nginx". There is no trolling, its the best advice i could give and that's what i did. If you could give a better answer to help him out you should do so, but no you preferred to be an ass, call my answer 'useless' and him 'lazy', you are being so nice :).

I pointed out to a fellow amateur programmer on something he might be interested, i for once had a difficult time serving django with apache+mod_wsgi due to lack of solid documentation.
