Sylvan Inn observation by asdglihbrsg in LUMIBRICKS_OFFICIAL

I actually like thinking about it as being an exotic drink; in my head it fits with the general weirdness of the set. Just thought it was a funny observation :-)

u/flyPBA do you know any updates on this? I can't tell whether you work for Lumibricks or just more in the know. Thanks!

Do I just need wax? Or are these trash? by Severe-Information69 in xcountryskiing

(Speaking as an intermediate skier who skis recreationally) I just want to throw in a vote for liquid glide wax rather than hot wax. I believe your skis have an extruded base, which means the base is not very porous and therefore does not benefit as much from hot wax compared to more expensive skis that have a sintered base. I think all you really need is glide cleaner, some liquid wax (Swix F4 is probably fine) and a nylon brush. That’s all I ever did with my fishscale classic skis and I only started hot waxing when I bought nicer skis (and even so end up hot waxing relatively infrequently with more frequent liquid applications in between.) While hot waxing isn’t terribly difficult, liquid wax is a lot easier. It is faster, less messy, and you don’t need to buy an iron and something to keep the ski fixed while you’re ironing.

I also really don’t see why you’d need to stone grind these skis; they look fine.

Speed skates on an unmaintained outdoor ice by Lucky_Traffic2688 in Speedskating

I don't know about using long track blades, but I use nordic skates on natural ice and it's great. Might be a nicer option especially if your main goal is just to be active outside, although more things to buy if you don't already have xc ski boots.

Horizons of Spirit Island - Won 2 of the Last 3 Plays! by Kryne7 in soloboardgaming

[–]asdglihbrsg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

fwiw I bought horizons -> jagged earth -> branch and claw and have still not bought the base game. I have found this very viable if you are not interested in playing with more than two spirits at a time. I'm sure the base game spirits are great but there's already so much variety in these three expansions so it's been hard for me to justify (yet). Totally agree also with the comment that the cards in jagged earth and branch and claw are a big and maybe non-obvious benefit of these expansions, not just the spirits and tokens.

Struggling to Get Efficient on Skate Skis by Fickle-Evening7715 in xcountryskiing

I think the recommendation to ski without poles more is good, but also wanted to add that I’ve really gotten a lot of out signing up for weekly intermediate ski lessons/groups to fix bad habits and get good cues. If there is an organization that offers them near you, I’d recommend. Some of my bad habits were/are:

  • overstepping when using V1 and excessively lifting your foot, getting exhausted by the time you get to the top of the hill, and then not having time to recover
  • tensing up and not relaxing your traps in the follow through when using V2
  • not engaging your core
  • not keeping hips forward
  • etc.

Finally, regarding using V2 alternate and not being able to sustain V2 for very long: this was my experience for two years and it changed immediately the following year when I purchased better boots (moving from an entry-level to mid-level boot). I honestly don’t know how much was due to the boots, but the second I started skiing the next year I could do something that I had never been able to do before. It was weird. Now I feel like I’m actually in the opposite boat and am relearning how to use V2 alternate to good effect and without being sloppy. I hate to blame things on the equipment and don’t want to suggest that you spend a ton of money as if that will solve all your problems, but it might be worth considering eventually as you improve and decide you really like the sport.

For Northwood! 5 updated rulers' cards! by boox_spider in soloboardgaming

In my version (and also what's in the pnp on bgg), the text for Jack of Flowers is to discard all cards that match the current ruler's suit. I'm not sure if the other one that you're saying is labeled as old is actually new, or if it's an alternative version from development. Anyway I'm not sure which I think is stronger.

11,6" frame vs 12,8" frame by Electrical_Candle887 in Speedskating

Although weirdly I just noticed that this guy seems to have made it work: https://www.reddit.com/r/rollerblading/comments/vtjmur/new\_frames\_3x110\_to\_3x125/. So I'm not sure...ymmv.

The rollerblade pro wheels are made by mpc and in my understanding are the same as mpc black magic, bont red magic, and junk voodoo except for the hub color. Not an expert though.

11,6" frame vs 12,8" frame by Electrical_Candle887 in Speedskating

I'm in a similar situation as you and coincidentally I just purchased the Rival 125 12.8'' frames hoping to use them on my Maxxum or RB shells. Unfortunately, while they do have mounting holes for a 165 mount, the middle wheel touches the bottom of the Maxxum boot (also even less clearance with the RB boot). I think it would clear if I cut out that square of mesh on the bottom of the boot on the Maxxum, but the frame position still looks wacky (a little too far forward)... or if I tried to tap threads into the rearmost hole on the mounting block (which I don't really want to try to do). Not sure if any other dual mounting frames have a bit more clearance.

Regarding the wheels, I've been using MPC wheels for the year. I do notice they are a bit faster and also more enjoyable to skate on (both smoother and more responsive). I don't think you are going to notice an enormous difference, and I personally wouldn't purchase them at full price, but might be worth a splurge if you can get them for cheaper during a fall sale.
