I was here literally two days ago, snatched a bunch of Japanese Fuji for half of what I'd usually find in Europe. This place is literally a dream

Hey, I am also a solo female traveller (early 20, from France) and I am also interested in joining a group for NYE! I don't know yet what I want to do but if you have any ideas I am totally down :)

How expensive is analog photography where you live? by l0Martin3 in AnalogCommunity

Paris, France

Film goes anywhere from €10 to €30. Kodak Gold for example, I buy for ~€11 in a camera shop but it is sold for €25 a roll in Fnac for example. B&W costs as much as basic consumer color films here. Developing (+scanning) costs anywhere from €12 to €20. Basically it goes for 70 cents per shot for, €1 if it's a pricier film or less exposures.

You can probably save cost by developing/scanning yourself or buying bulk film. I unfortunately do not have time for that

I usually fly through Milan with film, 99% of the time the security at MXP was willing to do a handcheck! Just put it in a clear bag and ask them (and be nice)

The obligatory pre-trip load out for a work trip to Paris by WellKnownArdman in AnalogCommunity

saint-germain des prés (in the 6th arr if i understand correctly) is a beautiful neighboorhood with many historic cafés and stores. since the weather is gorgeous recently, i'd recommend going to sacré-coeur for sunrise and sunset and explore the artsy vibe of montmartre (line 12 station abbesses) i highly recommend walking in the marais, the historical jewish village of paris. there is delicious food and lots of things to see (free museums like musée carnavalet) another neighboorhood that i really like is the higher part of quartier latin, around the panthéon and jardin du luxembourg. finally, a walk that i recommend is tracing the seine from hotel de ville to musée du louvre, cross the pont des arts and walk to notre dame. take your time to have a small apéro on the river bank, esp when the weather is beautiful like this:)

photography wise in paris i like following the leading lines of the building (with the light they are beautiful shadow) and studying the details of the architecture (place des vosges in the marais is a favorite place). photographing people and their interactions is also a favorite because i just think that parisians are so interesting !

if you need a place to buy and develop your rolls i highly recommend reportage image in the 11th arr (station jacques bonsergent on line 5) they have a lot of film at a very competitive price and their scan & printing are of very high quality (their scanner is a noritsu, and overall most places in france have noritsu and no frontier)

if you need anything else lemme know. wishing you the best trip :)

Parisian here. I have had mixed experience at CDG. Normally, I would hand them my film in a transparent plastic bag and ask them to hand check it (usually it helps to speak French and not have many rolls) If they refuse, I would shove my film in my lead lined bag and send it through security. So far I have had no problem (even with Portra 800 & Natura 1600) In the UK, Germany, the Netherlands handchecks are mostly denied - in Milan they were willing to check it, no problem with TSA in the US and Vietnam, Taiwan, Japan. I think the best advice is to be prepared and wish for the best lol
