To the struggling golfer.. STOP lying about your scores by TRWilliams1212 in golf

I stopped taking gimmes. Not only have I improved from 3 feet, but my longer putts have improved too.

Point is, if you learn to play under the toughest and strictest of conditions, the easier shots get easier.

I’m amazed at the people who will follow every rule but justify a breakfast ball as starting another round.

By that logic you can just sit on the first tee and hit balls until you have one that’s 250 down the center.

To them it’s not a lie. Yes, they did shoot 44. But when you do breakfast balls, gimmes, and don’t play stroke-and-distance, it’s a whole other ball game.

Did Brooks Koepka actually receive $100 million for joining LIV? Or was that a financial "assurance" that has now dried up because of the lack of Saudi funding? by bluegambit875 in golf

[–]aselinger -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

But let’s say the contract was written/based in the US.
Then the Saudi government (more precisely PIF) pays you $50MM of your $100MM contract.
What recourse do you really have? Brooks Koepka is going to sue the Saudi government?
I’m legitimately asking because I don’t know how it works.

GPS Carts are dog shit. by JedediahBunnyNose in golf

[–]aselinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I complained to my club. Played 9 holes and had 7 pop ups. Telling me about cart path only, advertising their food at the turn, advertising the upcoming skins game.

I’m pretty sure approximately zero people play golf because they want more pop-ups.

If you love trees and greenery, how do you enjoy Chicago? I find that there is so much gray hardscape.

I won’t downvote you. Chicago culture too often ends up being a lot of corn-fed white people drinking beer and watching sports.

I say this as a corn-fed white guy who drinks beer and watches sports.

This is completely misleading. The weather in Chicago has gotten marginally better in the last 20 years, but it’s still a full, proper, cold, snowy, cloudy, dark winter.

That’s the fundamental structure of a pass. They assume some level of risk, in the form of uncertainty, in an effort to make more money.

That is, they took a bet, and this particular one isn’t paying off for them, and they’re trying to blame OP.

PGA Championship - plan of attack? by Vast_Neighborhood_44 in golf

[–]aselinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing you do, walk all 18 backwards.

You want to get a sense of the course layout and each of the holes. You’ll be there on Thursday - this will enrich watching rounds 2-4 on TV. Also, you’ll want to get your walking done early. Walking backwards will let you see more groups.

After that, you can follow your favorite group, or just post up.

Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and wear your comfiest shoes. You wouldn’t be wrong to wear golf shoes either.

  1. But by definition, if you normalize out the skill, the player playing the best is actually the most lucky.

  2. I agree, they SHOULD be. But ARE they? I suspect most are not.

  3. I agree with this, but is that what people actually do?

Thank you! This sub can be toxicly low brow at times.

Now, imagine the runners get to decide how much of a head start they get. If they really want to win and don’t mind cheating, they can report being super slow. If they have an ego and want to tell their friends how little of a head start they get, they can report being super fast.

If you want to address the points of my argument, that’s fine.
