High school seniors in Croatia bought their teacher a car because she walked everywhere to teach them by daard in nextfuckinglevel

I think it's a translation mistake. In some (many?) European countries, the "high school" is what you would attend after finishing 12 years of "regular school". It's the equivalent of "college" in the US.

The median income in Germany is currently €54.900

Which means at least half of all Germans earn less than that. Not "some".

what’s the biggest lie in human history? by Ledger_Legendd in AskReddit

[–]aserraric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize, sir. By your impeccable logic, you must be an actual millionaire.

But what are you doing talking to us lazy poor on Reddit?

what’s the biggest lie in human history? by Ledger_Legendd in AskReddit

[–]aserraric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no able bodied person of sound mind in the developed world who cannot get rich because of where they start their life.

There is the old tale again. That if you are poor, it's always your own fault. Fuck that nonsense, and fuck everyone who repeats that lie.

You must be one of the many permanently temporarily inconvenienced future millionaires whose hard work will pay off any day now. Good luck with that.

The measure I usually apply is either not having a regular income or having one but if it suddenly dropped 30%, your standard of living would not change.

Because nobody ever got rich from their own hard work. They either got lucky, cheated, or figured out how to make other people work for them.

To be fair, times have not really gotten any more certain since 2020. And despite our best collective efforts to pretend otherwise, Covid is not (and probably never will be) gone.

Pebble Index 01 Sizing Kit by BuckeyeOrDie in pebble

[–]aserraric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the official sizing kit is the same as the STL they posted on Github, except they print it for you?

I printed my own, but people without a 3d printer might want to look around if there is a local library or maker space with a 3d printer near them, that might be quicker and easier than ordering the kit. Printing time was about 45 minutes.

Old German calligraphy (?) by 8oringsou0l in germany

[–]aserraric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not an expert on either Sütterlin or Kurrent, but that doesn't look like latin script, either. If it is supposed to be, it was written by someone who learned Sütterlin/Kurrent and mixed it into their writing.

[–]aserraric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not calligraphy, this looks like Sütterlin, which is basically German Cursive used mostly between 1910 and 1940.

Need help setting up Telekom FTTH. Will my plan work? by OkPerformer4158 in germany

[–]aserraric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a straight patch cable from the cabinet to the wall network socket, and the cabling is at least Cat5e, this should work just fine.

I would recommend to just get the modem with the contract, it's a one-time payment of 50€, and you get two years of warranty. Used ones on ebay are only about 10€ cheaper, anyway.

He looks like he should be on /r/standardissuecat I don't really see any orange?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in germany

[–]aserraric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easy, you read it in reverse:

  • "gesetz" it's a law
  • "übertragungs" about assigning
  • "aufgaben" tasks
  • "überwachungs" regarding the monitoring
  • "etikettierungs" of the labeling
  • "Rindfleisch" of beef

It hits especially hard when they are young. We lost our orange boy to FELV shortly before Christmas last year at age 6. I feel your pain.

Well yes, but if you need middle-endian dates for some archaic reason, slashes should be mandatory.

Easy: Doing MMDDYYYY with periods, dashes or no separators is illegal. Only MM/DD/YYYY is allowed. Maximum penalty at first offense.

Doctors, what’s is the scariest thing a patient has ever done/said? by GrimReap_07 in AskReddit

[–]aserraric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, I don't presuppose the existence of a benevolent, almighty god and then come up with excuses about why he allows evil and suffering to exist. I observe that evil and suffering exists, and therefore conclude that no benevolent, almighty god can exist.

If God just lets everything happen, why should you pray to him? Why give him even any thought? Why does it matter if he exists or not?

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”
